  1. We couldn't let ours off lead in a camp site. They would be at other peoples sites ,mooching for food, sleeping on anything comfortable and generally being pests.
  2. Hes such a frigging crack up, honestly. Henry the entertainer !!!!!!! Can't wait to see what the breeder has to say
  3. Have a look at this!!! It will brighten up your day http://upsidedowndogs.com/pet3414/henry-the-boxer-dog/
  4. Just thought I would show my goofy boy. Hes such a clown
  5. My boxers love turkey necks, they have to chew them. I have to be careful as they can be a pair of piglets and swallow whole bits of bone then hurl in the middle of the night!!!! Can't feed them brisket for that reason. Lamb flaps are great and lamb shanks to. Good luck with the ear problem
  6. Prosecution should be in the hands of DPP, not the RSPCA. Just goes to show huh!!!
  7. We are about to start training with Mark Singer, he has a good reputation and some other DOLERS have used him. Will let you know how it goes
  8. I have got to get one for Henry !!!!!
  9. Your an angel Mrs T. I cannot even comprehend what this poor little soul has had to go through, even more so I can't comprehend how any person could do this to a defenceless pup. When I looked at his before shot I just hugged my own dogs. Thank heavens he was found, I bet he is going to make a wonderful companion for someone. Well done Mrs T, hes gorgeous

  12. Miz J Bomber wasn't interested in his stithes either! We actually have a collar at home that we brought just incase which we never used. If you would like it please let me know. Thanks for that and I may take you up on it, better to be prepared I think rather than more suturing. Murphys law I am more worried about night when we cant see him. We have arranged his surgery where we will both have nearly a week off. I am hoping that he wont really care too much and hes easily distracted by toys so shouldnt be to difficult to redirect his attentio ( his very short attention span!!!!)
  13. Does anyone have any alternative to the elizabethan collar? We are having our young boxer desexed soon, hes 9 months old, quite tall and about 26kg.
  14. Have used Penfield for my boxers and was really happy with the care they received
  15. Number 3's hahahaha, perhaps one of those nappy's with the number 3 containment pad for the car ride home !!!!
  16. Dont attempt to remove them yourself. Skin staples need a particular type of removal tool otherwise as you will not be able to remove them and cause the dog pain. As the staple goes in the gun changes the shape so that the ends of it go under the wound to hold the skin together so in effect it turns into a rectangular shape just as it does when you put it into paper. You might cause tissue damage by trying with ordinary tools
  17. I have a very lean 9 month old male boxer ( and a rather large 3 1/2 year old female!!) He has just started to put on a bit of weight in the last month in that he has cover on his ribs and hips. Hes not particulary food motivated so getting him to eat much is quite difficult. I have found that he will eat just prior to a growth spurt and cut back when its finished. He seems to self regulate. I have found that the only dry he will put weight on with is Hills large breed puppy which makes up about 50% of his intake and the rest is raw meaty bones, chicken, lamb etc. I give him sardines 3 times a week he also gets table scraps, veg, fruit. He certainly isnt starving. I understand how you feel when you look at your skinny dog!! I was hoping winter would go a bit longer so I could leave his coat on !!! Anyway, hes healthy, good teeth, shiny coat and active so I guess sometimes its more for us than the dog. Now my other poor girl is on a teeny bit of a diet, shes not happy!! She wll scoff any left overs that Henry leaves and shes quick!!! Hope your enjoying Adelaide Joyce
  18. Yep and I signed off on that without hesitation.
  19. This is a good discussion. I am not nor will be a dog breeder that needs to be done by people who know what they are doing. My experience recently with boxer breeders here in SA and in NSW has been good. We have 2 boxers and our recent one is from a breeder in NSW. I must admit I did a lot of research on breeders and did have many questions for them particularly relating to temperament and health of their breeding dogs. I also asked about ongoing information and support from the breeder. We decided to take another white boxer because there can be issues in finding homes for these dogs and they don't meet breed standard but we have pets. My partner and I were interviewed over the phone for a few conversations, the breeder was making sure that we were serious and could comfortably look after Henry. After much emailing, phone conversations, texting etc all were happy and the breeder matched us with a suitable pup. He was delivered to SA by another breeder who did a home inspection, long discussion and met Gabby ( our 3 year old rescue). She was happy to leave him here and we were really happy to. I have no doubt that he would have been taken away if she thought we were not suitable. His sale to us is conditional in regard to desexing and diet and I have no problem with this. In fact we dont take full ownership in theory till hes 9 months old. Whether this is recognised legally I am not sure and it doesnt matter to me because if we have any problems shes pretty much my first port of call. We email regulary and she asks for updates on him. If ever (god forbid ) have to rehome him he will go back to the breeder. So thats my experience with a breeder and I was impressed that the welfare of the dog was the priority and not that I was going to hand over a wad of cash. We all got what was best, Henry has a great home, the breeder is happy he is well taken care of and we have a lovely wee rascal and a delightful older girl. They are both white, there is nothing wrong with them, they are family pets and still boxers who wear sunscreen and doggles !!!! I would go back to a breeder again without hesitation now that I know what to ask and have a bit more insight into the purebred community, I can see how some people just hand over money to get a cute pup without researching and listening to the experts. Thats why some end up in pounds and shelters like poor Gabby did 18 months ago.
  20. Any recommendations on types of bones? My dogs seem to be absolute gannets or lazy, they will swallow large chunks of bone and then they vomit for a day getting rid of the bone they have swallowed, they have done this twice now so no more till I know what is going to be suitable. I would hate for them to get a bowel or gastric outlet obstruction!!! Certainly no more brisket or anything that has small pieces of bone. They will happily chew through chicken necks, turkey necks and lamb shanks without a problem. Joyce
  21. I have had Gabby on GB for 2 months now. No problems changing over from Hills. My 7 month old boxer will eat it if she has left any and he hasnt had any issues with it either. Skin, coat and digestive tract all OK. Her weight is stable. They do have raw diet for about 50% but that was the same when she was on the Hills. Wont be putting the pup on it for a while, he can stay on the premium stuff, should just increase his raw diet and supplement with GB when hes in a growth spurt. Going to grab a bag of Uncle Albers, I know Gab wont starve shes a living hoover!!! Really guess that it depends on the individual dog, Gabby has a cast iron gut and wil eat anything, Henry wont eat much offal, loves veg, fruit and sardines. Both my dogs are in good health so will continue as is unless their needs change. The cost of the GB is pretty good.
  22. Thanks for all the help folks. Here is the culprit nearly back to normal
