Pup Returning After 1st Night! Unbelievable.
Bundyburger replied to moosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
No need to be ashamed, I had a total breakdown when Zoe was a pup, I would walk into the kitchen, see poo, wee and chewed items fro bench surfing and broke down into tears.... I thought it was just me Haha - we need a gorgeous puppy support group! I just had a bit of a breakdown and just hugged him and cried - and the little shit once realising how good my tears tasted starting gnawing on my chin - LOL. He's such a sweet little boy but I wish they came toilet trained - lol. He was toilet trained but as he hasn't been in a house with carpet he gets confused as he thinks it's ok to go anywhere that isn't on tiles. Puppy breakdown here too.. I cried so much over him for about a month. Now he's just lovely most of the time!! -

Pup Returning After 1st Night! Unbelievable.
Bundyburger replied to moosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I did.. he was silent unless he needed to pee! Only took him a week to sleep through or something While to us it's a bit strange, at least they told the breeder straight away. -
Oh Kristy, I so didn't want to open this and read it. I am so sorry hon I remember how much you so badly wanted Gherky, your hear must be shattered into a thousand pieces..

It does make sensethanks I just couldn't get my head around it for some reason. Our main bugbear is drop, we had it nearly consistent at training but it is becoming less and less consistent so I was thinking if I change to c/t it's something I cna just incorporate into the day as well as the training sessions and will hopefully get quicker results. He's already grasped click treat if he looks at me which is good since we couldn't get it in 2 months of training Deleted a bit as I worked it out after I reread a few times :D

Ok, I've read Karen Pryor's book, and was all motivated to start doing clicker training with Bundy, but one thing really has me confused. I know the clicker is used to tell the dog that their reward is coming after you've marked something they've done as what you want. Jeanne mentioned having her boy dropping really well and quickly after using the clicker, but I don't understand how or when you introduce the verbal command into it so you can then get your dog to perform the behaviour when you want. How do you know when the dog has learnt the behaviour you are trying to shape?? I've read about clicker training on other websites and things but I am yet to find somewhere that actually explains the above in a way I understand Like I said, probably really obvious.. but it's not for a nuffy like me :D

I'm going on Saturday

I agree with the above, but I also wouldn't be mentioning the name of the boarding kennels.. it's a bit poor form

We do at Mum's. My brothers dog is a smelly weepy pussy nearly bald mess at the moment the poor darling She's popping pills on a regular basis stil.. We can't get rid of the buggers even with weekly i think it is treatments.
-
She's possibly itchy. My mums two dogs do it occasionally, but my two don't
-
My brothers 10yo dog recently had an allergic reaction to fleas. The dogs at mums have had them on and off for years and nothing seems to kill them. Anyway, she's ended up with a lot of bald patches and pusy weepy sores and on a lot of antibiotics, creams and the like from the vet. The dogs themselves are deflead with advantage fortnightly on advice from the vet(it may even be less time than that I'm not sure). However I was there last night and I found one on our other dog They were only treated last week. It explains why Jess who has the reaction is still itchy... Tash my dog hasn't had any reactions at all. Even though they have new bedding and things outside and inside, I'm assuming the fleas are probably in the kennel as well as probably inside.. My brothers vaccumed it but to me that doesn't seem like it'd be enough. Can they use a flea bomb or similar in the kennel/house? Any recommendations on ones that are dog and cat safe? Any advice on what they can try would be greatly received. I don't live at home anymore so last night was the first night I actually saw the fleas.

A lot of dogs do, there's a thread on it in general

Take him outside, have an umbrella and just stand there If he gets upset, take him inside to break the pattern then straight outside again and keep going till he toilets. It sucks but how else are you going to get him used to it if you let him get away with it while little? Our puppy was like that at first but now he goes outside in the rain happily.

Meeting A Breeder- Gilbert Is Home!
Bundyburger replied to Cosmolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
So gorgeous! He's grown heaps already. Bundy hopes he gets to say hai tomorrow.. -
Also if he's only going for walks for 10 minutes, would he be up for a full obedience class. If not, is it still worth the money?
-
Does this mean she wants puppies? I know what mine would do He will be playing madly and trying to lick the stranger to death...
-
Same as PF.. however we found every time we moved he'd wake up so we relegated the pup to the lounge room. He was waking up for toilets when OH went to work so it was easy to co-ordinate for the few days before he slept through. If you get him up for a play at 3am you'll never get anywhere as he will think this is how it should be! Be tough and soon you'll have a pup who sleeps through and you'll wonder what the fuss was about
-
Put her in a pen. Unless your eyes are on her EVERY second and you can see the "signs" of her going to toilet, thats where she stays. If you are in the bathroom and can't trust her to not popp while she is out of sight, she is in the pen. For 3 weeks our puppy basically LIVED in his pen because he was just thinking he could mess anywhere. Now it's something like a month later and aside from the fact he doesn't know how to tell us he needs to pee when the back door is shut(so as a result it's always open), he's basically house trained. YOu need to clean the area thoroughly and stop her from having access.
-
If they aren't going to watch her she shouldn't be up there. If they want her up there then she should go in a pen so she is confined and less likely to pee everywhere.
