Took our family dog less than 48rs to develop a massive reaction from fleas, her hair just fell out and she was covered in scabs. She was treated for fleas and had never reacted like this before. So don't automatically assume that the people hadn't been trying to work out what was wrong, you only heard part of what was going on and don't know the full story. It's something like 2 months later and our dog still isn't back to herself yet. In her case though, cancer was not helping her heal and caused her immune system to plummet which is why she had a reaction. I'm with Cordelia on this one... at least they actually TOOK the pup to the vet, that is doing the right thing, how dare you judge them. Seriously threads liek this peeve me off, particularly at the moment..

Dol Dogs Favourite Anti-boredom Devices!
Bundyburger replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Toilet rolls are used here... Kongs are now the "in" thing too I like the icecube tray idea, except I know "Mr Munch" would end up chewing it to bits like he did his water bowl one day when we were out longer than normal and he'd worn out his bunch of toys and treats! -
We paid $80 i think it was, but he travelled with his sister so we went halvies... That was with Jetpets.

I'm assuming you obviously don't have her on lead to toilet? If not, put her on the lead and take her onto the grass and wait until she pees/poos. When she does praise her like mad for doing it in the right spot. If you repeat this every time for a few weeks hopefully she'll get the idea that she pees and poops on the grass not the concrete.

Our other V has a docked tail, so it's been an adjustment to have one with such a looong tail. He knocks everything over but hasn't broken a glass yet.. Soft drink cans on the other hand..

Has their problem with the barking ONLY been the last week since your other dog passed or is it a long standing problem? If it's only recent, I wouldn't be too concerned. Simply write a note back saying why it is occuring and you thank them for letting you know and that you are working to rectify it. However if it's only 5 minutes at a time they must be *really* picky neighbours. They shouldn't have been coming onto your property either.. idiots.

Dog Obedience In Melbourne (eastern)
Bundyburger replied to Winder's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There's one at Westerfolds park on Saturdays and Sundays?? I don't know the name but i see the sign every time I drive past. -
Shouldn't your topic read help on stand not sit?

He doesn't like those I tell you my puppy is BROKEN!!! It even had his trainers stumped that he's sooo fussy.
-
I might make it my next mission to try and train him to retrieve things.. hmh...
-
That's not a bad idea.. might get a hook for the laundry door.. it's sliding so we need something easy. Can't give them heaps of plush toys, they destroy them in 5 minutes and I spend weeks picking up the fluff I think I just need to get lethal with keeping everything out of reach, and drum it HEAVILY into OH.

Oh dear.. I have a collector it seems. Bundy steals underwear, socks(clean or dirty!), thongs(the shoe kind) and whatever else takes his fancy at the time. It is starting to become REALLY annoying! If we leave things in the laundry and shut the laundry door, our other dog has issues with shut doors (he's strange) and he will open it every time.. so then Bundy strolls in(cos he's not smart enough to open the doors) and takes whatever he feels like and promptly leaves it outside (to the point of pulling things off shelves this week). If the back door is shut then he will hide it somewhere, and take it outside the next time the back door is open. We keep the hallway door shut all the time so he can't get access to the bedrooms (and Diesel can't open that one) but if we shut the door to the back room Diesel will open it, and then go and open the laundry door. He can't open the back sliding door thank god Bundy's latest trick is to tear a piece of cardboard off a big box we have stored down the back as there's nowhere else to put it til the skip comes on the weekend and systematically take pieces outside. I've never actually caught him in the act until the other night, we'd just come home from work, they'd done their toilets outside and I had shut the back door. Bundy runs to the box, pulls off a piece of cardboard and trots to the back door with it in his mouth, looking all puzzled that he can't take it outside Then he stashed it behind a car tyre sitting by the door Sure enough, when they went outside later.. so did the cardboard(left it there as a test)! Needless to say that box is now somewhere he can't get to it He'd only been interested in it the past week. He dragged two towels off a shelf in the laundry the other day and took them outside in the 5 mins it took me to realise Diesel had opened the doors again . I had a pair of socks next to me on the floor as a test last night to see if he'd go near them to steal.. he did. He got told off and didn't dare come near me again for a while and everytime he went near them he got told off so he'd hurry back to his mat, but then I took my eye off Bundy for one second who was just sitting quietly on his mat next to me and suddenly I was missing a sock, so was OH who was in another room and there was Bundy in the yard with them!! He is downright SNEAKY. You don't hear him coming even though his collar normally jingles. We're thinking of putting a cat bell on him but then he'll just learn to sneak without making his bell jingle. I cannot believe that I had a pair of socks next to me on the floor, and I turned my head in the other direction to grab something off a table and then boom I'm missing a sock, I don't know how the heck he does it!! We joke he is the stealth puppy, as whenever he steals you cannot hear him walk but when he hasn't stolen something he's thunderpaws. If he is caught out and you tell him to drop it and leave it then he will.. but he will keep going back to try again! How on earth can I deter him from this? Doesn't matter what it is.. he WILL take it outside and leave it there. Half the time I cannot even work out where he's stolen stuff from as it's things that I last remembered leaving out of Bundy reach... Maybe both dogs are in cahoots We've tried spicy stuff on the socks too.. that doesn't work either (he then eats said sock) so it's not something I want to keep doing as he doesn't actually destroy the socks (just the undies). Our house isn't set up so we can keep EVERYTHING totally out of bounds(currently clearing out the house for some big changes) and I don't understand why he's suddenly started all this up so badly.. It was an occasional thing, and he'd get in BIG trouble when caught out but he'd still keep going back even though his body language showed that he knew well and truly he was in trouble.. and the last few weeks he's just gone totally over the top with his stealing and hiding, and I don't know why. He's nearly 7 months. He gets walked and trained every day, OH is home during the day and he gets plenty of play time outside and one on one training during the day. It is driving me absolutely batty. Doesn't help the fact the only things he likes playing with are tennis balls or stuffed toys. I've bought him maze balls and all sorts of things but he just isn't interested in them, nor kongs or anything like that(no matter what i put in or what I do to them).

Does Your Oh Allow Your Dog/s To Sleep On The Bed?
Bundyburger replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
OH said to me "when we get the puppy, Diesel will not be allowed on the bed, and no dogs on the couch". Diesel was only allowed on the couch on occasion, and was banned from the bed before we got together. The first night I stayed over, he slept on the bed and wouldn't get off, and it's been that way ever since :D I agreed. However 2 weeks in, puppy was on the couch and was on the bed for OH's daytime naps.. Bundy shares the couch with me.. and Diesel shares the other couch with OH. Luckily they're 3 seaters Bundy isn't allowed on the bed at night, he sleeps in his crate in the lounge. We are slowly in the process of encouraging them onto mats on the floor instead of the couch as Bundy will be too big soon for when they decide to curl up on the same couch with me. They are supposedly not allowed on the bed anymore either but OH keeps giving in -
Ahhhh! Im so bloody excited I didnt even pick up on that! Thanks BM! All good.. I'm wondering what they'll come up with for the story though :D
-
Well done!! The email says this though, so I think it will actually be on TV not just on their website

I'd be ringing your vet and taking her in to be safe. It sounds like similar colouring to what our boy had, but it's better to get her checked to make sure she hasn't swallowed something she shouldn't have or there's nothing else going on.
-
What colour is it? Could she have eaten something she shouldnt? Is there blood in it? My boy had the runs for a few days and was a bit off. Turns out he'd eaten something that was just taking it's sweet time to come out the other end.
-
My puppy hasn't learnt to chase bunnies or birds yet.. he chases flies instead :D

Bumping

Just ask the butcher for dog bones that's all I did. Although maybe a brisket or something easier to chew for the little one..
-
He should be ok to hold on, my 6mth old slept through the night from about 9weeks.. If not he'll soon wake you up
-
Getting a puppy while you aren't in a position to give him the time and attention he needs is not fair. A 9wk old puppy shouldn't have a UTI nor be left inside alone for so long. The most my 6mth old is alone for is 4-5 hours and we don't even like doing that.
-
30 minutes? jeepers... I only give 10. If puppy doesn't eat, away goes the food. It only took him 3 days of hunger striking to work out that he had to eat when the food was down, or else he got nothing else until the next mealtime. Food guarding is also not a 'game' so you may wish to get professional advice on how to handle that situation. I feed the puppy down the back in his pen, our older dog is fed up in the kitchen in his bowl. The puppy is not let out until the other dog has eaten.
-
Put her in a pen to eat, she can still see him, but he can't get to the food. When she has eaten pick up the food? Or leave it down for a set period, if she doesn't eat then too bad, she will if she is hungry enough.. If she doesn't eat for days if you seperate, how on earth did she go before you got the second dog?
-
Bundy.. Well, as much as we love our little dude, we've decided NO MORE PUPPIES He slept through the night from week 2 in his crate like a good boy. Toilet training took us so long, even now while we KNOW he can hold on we don't trust him to be fully "house trained". He steals EVERYTHING and is such a destructo.. latest toy is toilet paper... OH doesn't remember to shut the door so we lose two rolls a day He won't play with tugs, balls, squeakers and his ultimate fave, soft toys don't even get a look in at the moment.. He was great on the lead from day one.. brilliant on walks, but general obedience still needs lots of work ;) Love my boy but I so don't think I could do it again... The tears, the fights with OH... the tearful phone conversations with Cathy, all over toilet training.. I felt like such a failure and couldn't believe why I was putting myself through it! lol.
