  1. Feel free to email or PM of you want more details. The management of the college recently changed.... so did the fees.... If it makes you feel any better about the fees they do make you learn a lot! There is a lot I could say but better in private...
  2. Thanks everyone - Ok Dru so you were right *sheepish look* Fifi - I am doing th Diploma of Natural Animal Care which will qualify me to practice as an animal naturopath. I am kicking myself for not enrolling in the Diploma of Veterinary Naturopathy because the prices have doubled since I enrolled..... I breezed through module one and got 100% an did really well for assignment one of module two but for months I have been stuck on cell biology.... I am hoping to get it finished this weekend as I am so keen to move on to the next topic. A lot of vet nurses are studying from all over the world and they seem to find it easier than people like me who have no science background. We even have a girl who is studying her veterinary degree and naturopathy at the same time! it;s nice to hear everyone's postive experiences with alternative therapies. I know that I use them on my dogs and the fosters with great success
  3. Fifi the course is realy really good. They have just put their prices up though so it is now quite expensive The materials come bound togethor and then you also get sent texts with your materials. I am on module two at the moment and got the Merck Vet Manual and some great Aanatomy texts. I am stuck on my second assignment and procrastinating though..... Cell biology is hard!!! But if you are a vet nurse you would breeze through The students have a discussion forum and some of the people who have been doing it for a while are amazing at what they know
  4. I haven;t really made this known on the boards - probably because I am so far behind in my study at the moment but, I am studying Animal Naturopathy I guess I want to gauge people's responses and see what you think of natural animal therapies. The course is brilliant - but hard! I am doing it via correspondence through ACNAM Dru was the one who said I should spill the beans so now I have.... Not quite sure why I haven't told anyone except a few people.... I guess I thought people would think it was all hocus pocus At the moment I am not qualified to give advice and other than an odd post here or there on something I have tried with success I don't give advice. I am just not that far enough into the course to feel comfortable giving out alternatives therapies. But I am very excited with what I am learning....
  5. Sorry to drag this back up but... Whooooo hoooooo I just had to post an update!!! Tonight we decided to introduce Toffee to a strange dog - and guess what! No agression at all. She accepted the dog immediately and there was no aggressive behaviour shown at all - not even when she was walking towards the dog. We took them for a walk togethor and she spent the whole time leaning over and licking the dog It has taken a bit of time but it worked
  6. It woul dbe at Steve's place at Kurrajong Heights - it's worth it just to meet his dogs .....
  7. Eddy Sorry that is not going to work. Our dog was a foster dog that we took on. She is fear agressive and doesn;t cope well around other dogs or with changed environments so doggy day care is not an option for us nor do I have any friends or family close enough to look after her Back to the square one......
  8. Hi Eddy Here's a scenario - I have a dog who has some mild fear issues. She freaks out at the dogs next door barking all the time and this sets her off. As do the foxes killing ducks and scavaging for food. So she pretty much barks constantly all the time. I work full time cannot take time off as I am employed on a special project. Now the neighbour is complaining and threatening council and legal action so we are in dire straits So here is my question to you - how do I fix it? I figured that you seem to be such an expert in fixing barking and behavioural problems without the use of any sort of correction advice so I would be really interested to hear what you have to say........
  9. Ezza - your problem with you neighbour sounds exactly like mine - right down to the battle axe block Our neighbour throws a cricket ball at the colorbond fence to stir my girl up The bark collar and keeping them inside is what has worked for me - we've also planted some fast growing shrubs with a temporary chicken wire fence in between the property lines - that has at least stopped her getting right on top of the fence....
  10. Hi I have an electronic no bark collar for my dog. There is a post in the general discussion group from about a month ago about my neighbour and my dogs. My dogs does bark and she will bark to protect our property. Given that we live on a kind of battle axe property this can become troublesome as my neighbours driveway crosses over our yard. We sought opinion and advice from K9 Force before using the collar and we did try other methods such as bringing her inside. That was not good enough for the neighbour.... I do not beleive that they hurt the dog. I would liken it to a tickle on the throat. The collars are very good and are automatic so they start at the lowest stimulant level and then increase if the dog continues to bark. My fiancee wasn;t sure about them so he put it on his neck and simulated barking. He said that the correction he recieved was minor and barely noticeable I love it. If we didn't use it then I don't know what my neighbour would do to my dogs.....
  11. Steve is sooooooo not rude and very worth what you pay for I am getting an awesome recall with my Malamute under distraction and that is something that I never thought I would be able to achieve. I've put everything he has taught me into a rescue Sibe that I picked up on the weekend and now have the dog sitting, walking on a leash besides me without pulling and just starting recall. Re K9's charges - How much would you pay for obedience classes and books. Say you buy 3 books that about $75. Join obedience that's about $20 and say $5 a class over 20 weeks. That's $100 I took an extremely fear agressive foster dog up to see K9 - spent $99 and got a fantastic program specific to her needs. I expected the session with him to last one hour - it lasted about 4 and a half. I've lost count of the emails that I have sent him and the advice he gives me for nothing K9 is not expensive, nor rude and confrontational. We are very luck that he gives us his advice and articles for free
  12. Hi Rusky - i think these collars do have their uses I was fostering (now own) a girl with severe fear agression and she is extremely strong. If I took her out with a martingale she was able to (and did) pull me over. If I put her on a check/choke she would choke herself in her fear and pulling So I consulted a trainer (a very good one) and we decided to try the prong on her. She now doesn't pull and rarely has a correction (self correction btw) It allows me to take her out and safely exercise her and work on her fears. She's coming along really nicely
  13. Hi All - I am at work and doing sneaky checks on this thread so haven't read everything fully I am wondering if there are any websites that describe the different levels of obedience and a description of the different sports. If you wanted your dog to say compete in flyball would they need to be at an obedience school? Sorry for the novice questions - I have great dogs but have never been to an obedience class as we go to K9 Force and have never considered sports but they sound interesting
  14. Roxanne here are some alternative healing places that might help http://www.wholisticanimal.com/ http://www.greenpet.com.au/ A resource that may be useful to you; http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ I can also put you onto some holistic email groups if you are interested and you could post your story. 15. Wobblers Syndrome is a compression of the spinal cord. I know a bit about it in horses (becase I used to insure them) What about acupuncture? I'll do some research for you if you like and PM you with what I can find?...
  16. I would really reccomend a visit because we have had fantastic results. I am actually the Cindy referred to in the case study - I guess everyone knows my real name now Steve spent so much time with us when we went and saw him. It was really amazing and we learnt so much. More fascinating was to watch how quickly Toffee bonded with him. She was actually at the front of the class room with him and not with us She is coming ahead in leaps and bounds and is just a different dog to the one we originally took in. You can imagine the thoughts going through my mind after she bit me....... It's also been good to send Steve emails to bounce her progress off him - I always get a response within 24 hours and he never makes me feel like a pest for bugging him so often (which I do a lot ;) ) I actually wasn't going to post to this thread because I didn't feel it needed my comment but I just cannot help sing the praises of Steve. BTW this case study is also being mentioned in the SMH on Saturday because they interviewed Steve! Here's Miss Toffee
  17. have you tried changing the food you offer him my mal is a very fussey eater also - we tried getting him to eat dry food and he wouldn;t touch it at all. It took some time to fnd things he would eat and some things he would originally like and then refuse
