Thanks for showing this pic Maddy, because it saved me embarassing myself by saying I had never seen a dun in a showbred greyhound. eta and he threw several dun offspring.

Really? No comformation breeder I know breeds for colour. That's the last thing on their mind. *cough* Blue staffords, etc *cough* (Wasn't refering to show greyhound breeders there, if that's what you thought- just show breeders generally. And some do breed for colour) yes that is what I thought as it came straight after a sentence with racing greyhounds in it. My apologies for the misunderstanding.

Only issue I ever had was with one dog who I got when she was about 4. After the 3rd trip to the vet with one of my other girls the newest one was returned. The returned dog went on the have a great life as an only dog. Otherwise only minor scuffles and an Oi! stops them in their tracks

Just for interests sake I looked in the greyhound data base which has 2,088,136 greyhound pedigrees from all over the world, both race and show bred, and the colour fallow is not one of 60 colour combinations they have to choose from. Several types of dun as in dun, white and dun, etc. Then using sarsparilla's colour page found fallow, which actually looks quite like dun to me. http://colornames.facts.co/fallowcolorcode/fallowcolor.php

Fern is a red, same red as an Irish Setter. Kdf's dog I would have registered as a fawn which can also be called red. There are several different descriptions for fawn/red that are allowable, including a blue fawn. There are fawns, red fawns, reds, blue fawns, fallow ( I have never seen one registered as fallow ). Offically within the ANKC greyhounds colours are COLOUR - Black, white, red, blue, fawn, fallow, brindle or any of these colours broken with white. Lots of breeds call the same colour a different name.

Agree with this. The dictionary definition of dun is a greyish brown. That greyhound in the first photo is not greyish brown. Maybe greyhound people need to rethink their colour descriptors. :) Why? We are not talking about horses. Greyhounds have been around for thousands of years along with the colour dun.
-
We are not talking horses. In greyhounds this colour is called Dun. In labs it's called chocolate. In GSP's it's called liver.
-
I have a red greyhound. Totally different colour to dun.

Pretty sure I met this one a few years ago at a dog show. Either that or it was her twin

You really need to take the dog to the vet and tell them he is barely eating. The vet will examine the dog and take it from there and advise you.

Chamios cool coats are the only ones I use on my greyhounds

How Important To You Is Your Breed's Original Purpose?
Rebanne replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
One thing about lure coursing is that it is new in Australia and so we don't have an existing population of dogs that have been bred and raised and trained to lure course. That hit greyhounds particularly hard this year, as they are built for power and speed and are trained to run in ways that meant that lure coursing was a real shock to their system. Having observed the last year my advice to anyone wanting to course greyhounds would be to train the dog up from a puppy and not to use dogs previously trained to race - whether rescue or otherwise. Having said that, all the other sighthound breeds managed without any major drama. Showbred greys were coursed and injured as well. It's not for me or my dogs. Each to their own. -
How Important To You Is Your Breed's Original Purpose?
Rebanne replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I thought it was very important and couldn't wait for lure coursing to start up. But with the number of injuries that have occurred, which included a broken leg, well I'm not prepared to risk my dogs for the sake of my ego. And these were very fit dogs. Fitter then I would be able to get mine. -
Brave Little Girl Thalia Standley Tells How Dog Ate Her Arm
Rebanne replied to DakotaJ's topic in In The News
so is your dog in an escape proof yard? Concrete flooring so it can't dig and a roof over head so it can't climb, with a padlock on the gate. Cause that's the only way to fully prevent things like this happening. I had to tell my neighbour not to let his grandkid feed my dogs goodoh's through the once inch gap in the fence. Cause if the kid got a fright and ripped her fingers back nothing surer my dogs would get the blame. GSD's at the time. I didn't fix the fence, my dogs couldn't get anything more then a whisker through. Kid stopped feeding the dogs -

...in this source from another angle; I don't call this a sound fence to contain powerful dogs, however, I don't know how it looks from the inside. If there is nothing that would hinder the dogs from digging their way through it is definitely not suitable. so your dog is contained in an escape proof yard? Yes, please show us the fort knoxs you have created to keep your dog 100% safe from everything that could possibly happen. firstly: I don't own such powerful dogs! secondly: despite owning 'only' a BC, I took this tragic accident as a sad reminder to inspect my fence as one side is adjacent to a family with a toddler. This afternoon I will have a chat with the neighbour and we will inspect the fence from his site to discuss any potential safety issues. nothing stopping a BC from ripping off a kids arm. -

OMG I can't even begin to count the blankies! Mainly polar fleece throws at $5 a pop from K-Mart. But I have two large wire crates in the house with bedding in them, then there is the single bed mattress on the floor in the lounge plus the couch. Then I have 3 tramp beds under cover outside, a double kennel and 2 more tramp beds in the yard. The kennel has raised floor within with bean bags and blankies. The under cover tramp beds should have bedding but Phoebe often drags it around the yard. Not a big problem in the warmer weather. Then there are the multiple dog coats of different sizes and thicknesses for each dog depending on the weather. Dry dog bedding, I think about 10 pieces. I just washed some, it's around 7 years old and does as bedding in the car and mats on the floor but I think the 3 pieces I washed today might not make it back into the house. Oh and I have a couple of heated dog beds that the cat usually sleeps on and 2 memory foam mats as well. Plus my queen size bed. And the hessian covered mats in the corner of my bedroom with blankies on it. I think that is it PS and 3 old pillows for them to rest their heads on, on a couple of the inside spots  -
I don't feed them regularly but have never had a problem
-
Scottie is quite the fan too - but only in batons, not in discs. I just chuck whole ones out into the back yard for them

I carry muzzles in the car and my dogs are used to them but no way would I subject them to a store where they could easily be hurt. And mainly by a feral brat with a kids trolley. -
