  1. Congratulations to kathq and RubyStar! Well done both of you
  2. Everything in UDX was a new learning experience as both Brookie and Scoota came to it after many years of successful UD trialling. A lot of UDX is actually contradictory to all the previous classes so I elected to train most of it with a difference. "Box" means go out to a clearly defined square and sit in it. The UDX cones can look a bit arbitary from a dogs point of view...whats in and whats out? So I trained it with a different signal and word. I started with "Go" which worked fine but one time my voice must have been a bit harsh and he mistook it for "No" so I quickly changed it.
  3. So take half a step backwards and see if he can do it from there. Remember the golden rule....split don't lump :) if you use a clicker, click the moment he rises into the sit and throw the food behind him. Reset and backup one more step. Repeat. Vary the distances and don't be afraid to go back to where he can do it...always set your dog up for success
  4. She is rather partial to Strauss eh Ptolomy:D Both your boys were lovely today with Moo getting the perfect Rally Advanced score for title My brag for today is a win in UD on 198 and second in Rally Advanced for title on 99. Lovely happy enthusiastic work
  5. If you burn stuff onto DVD discs the multipack ones have clear plastic separators....perfect!
  6. I'm heading up to the Kamal weekend at Camp Tailwaggers in July so will meet up with some of you there! Looking forward to catching up again
  7. Congratulations Tassie Must get around to tracking some day soon.... too many dog sports on offer and not enough time!
  8. Brookie had a blast in Rally Advanced today winning on 100 points. If he were a human I would say he giggled all the way round
  9. Onya Moo!!!! Just so that your Mum knows that you really do know it
  10. Huge Congratulations Ptolomy!!!! A pretty good day all round Thanks for the puppy fix....way too cute :D
  11. Thanks TSD..not there yet though...its a score that counts towards the title and we have two to go :D Congratulations on your retrieving wins and the Perpetual Trophy I went and spectated at a retrieving trial recently and I was blown away by some of the things the dogs have to do...there's a lot of training to get there!
  12. Congratulations RubyStar....you're on a roll
  13. Lots of great Rally rounds at the first three rally trials in WA. Yay Ptolomy! winning on 99 points yesterday. Very high scores from RubyStar for titles as well We had a terrific day out yesterday with Brookie winning UDX on 189 which counts for G Ch I am thrilled to bits with his happy attitude. That attitude cost us a few points especially in the leathers but I can live with that! He went on to put in a lovely UD round winning on 199 and Rally title on 2nd place with 99 Topping off a great day was cuddles with the Toller babies and drinkies with Ptolomy!!! How I would love to bottle days like this
  14. Protect your cat at all costs! Once dogs see him as prey his nine lives will evaporate without your intervention. Separation is the only safe option in my opinion.
  15. Its been a long time between drinks but we had a ripper day yesterday and gained a UDX pass of 189...woo hoo!!! He did a sub in wash cloths and farted around with the last leather just to give me a heart attack but the rest of his work was just luverly!!! For so many trials he has been missing the down in the pim which then bled on to confusion in the wash cloths Distance control would then break..argh!!! I had a lesson with the Guru (we are sooo lucky in WA!) and the dim light is getting a little brighter :D Just to top off the day we got a 199 in UD....good boy!!!
  16. Brookie went from a rooster on Saturday winning UD on 197 and Open on 194 and a quallie of 100 points in Rally and highest combined score in trial..yay....to a feather duster today . Best we could do was a 90 Rally score! Oh well...thats what we call swings and roundabouts :D I think there are some other brags from WA Dolers from today...cmon girls :)
  17. You can play discreet tug with your dog...I have done so with his lead (kills me to do it as they are pretty leads but you do what you gotta do!) Its worth teaching your dog how to tug discreetly and how to quit immediately so you can get in the ring!
  18. For mock trials I will have a plan and will inform the 'judge' if I'm going to do something unexpected. I try not to include food in the ring as part of the equation or if I do its not usually food from my pocket...believe me, dogs know!!! Sometimes I will give the judge a container of food or have a My Dog in my pocket which has no smell until its opened. A randomly produced ball or tuggy works well too. Lets say you are doing Open for example...you could do a couple of steps and jackpot out of the ring, or, you could do half the heeling pattern and when the dog is particularly attentive break off and have a play...yipee!! then back to it. I will pay for three or four go's but usually only do two or three exercises which are usually back chained.
  19. A tip to get them to drink. I buy small cheap cat food in tins...tuna is good. Do some training with your dog for a jackpot and feed the cat food in a bowl but retain a small amount and mix with water. Makes a tasty broth which my guys love :)
  20. I always feed breakfast but on a trial day I will typically feed less knowing that I will be giving treats and jackpots during the day. I usually train late afternoon or evening so the treats and Jackpots are their dinner (or most of it)
  21. Wow! So many brags! Congratulations everyone
  22. Just did a quick search... here is one...there are others but its all pretty much the same principle.
