  1. Lol thats what I get, Labradoodle or Choclate Lab or Curly Coat! Chesapeakes are an American breed that can be traced back to two newfoundlands who shipwrecked off the Chesapeake bay in 1807 and the first standard for the Chesapeake Bay Ducking Dog was drawn up in 1877, so they are quite an old breed!.So they do not come from Labs (however they have St Johns Water dog and newf in them which labs do also)
  2. I chop up a bag of red rasberries lollies. That is so sad about Duke, I didn't even know there was such a thing as sea slugs! RIP Duke
  3. My breed comes in 8 But I 7 colours I would have in a heartbeat and 1 I am not really a fan of!
  4. For everyone out there, what is something most people don't know about your breed? I would love to get some new tibits of information and I love haring about breeds from the people who live with them.
  5. I just made Rocky Road, I doubled the mixture so there is heaps!!!! I am pedantic about mine so there is no coconut or peanuts in it and I use rice bubbles instead.
  6. I feel so bummed at missing out on a nationals jacket that I am tempted to order one from the US Chessie Speciality later this year just so I have something to wear in winter when everyone else has thier nationals jackets on.
  7. The Hounds it is then. Ozjen what time are you getting to K9 tomorow, I will try and get there around the same time.
  8. It takes 30-40 mins depending on traffic and if I need to open and close the gates at home. Ozjen I vote whichever is closer to K9 and easier to get home from. What kind of gates do you have? Big farm ones where you need to get out the gar, open the gate, get in the car, drive forward, get out the car, close the gate.

  10. It depends, the finals would probably be the most exciting but if you watch the heats you will get to to see DOLers. Lincoln has gotten so much bigger you might not even recognise him.
  11. Retrieving Training Day Training day on Sunday 9th May starting at 8am. It will be held at Upper Swan. You go north up Great Northern Hwy over the Upper Swan Bridge and cross the railway line. Then you turn right into Glen Rd and right again into Hallett Gardens. There is a carpark at the end. We will go in groups to practise till about 11.30, then have a sausage sizzle and drinks and socialize. It only costs $10 for the training and the lunch.
  12. RS- Its quality not quantity. I am still in shock about how huge my new crate is! I was just lying down in there with Toby and Lincoln!
  13. I will be there on Wednesday, what time do you need me to come help?
  14. Good to learn! I can't believe they can't show there, how sad.
  15. The big dog ones are higher and they have no where else to put their feet becuse they can't easily reach the ground.
  16. I am borrowing a set for Lincoln, you pick them up then put them down on them.
  17. Do two trips! I have 2 crates in the car, I take dog 1 and crate one and set them up and then crate 2 and dog 2.
  18. There was a black dog introduced during WWII and since then blue had been popping up, apparently one of the first dogs exported to the USA from Germany after the war was blue
  19. Not in the USA it ain't. Just checked the AKC standard - blue and longhairs still disqualifying faults. We are progressive here in Aus They are following the FCI/Germany for Weis I think? Dunno VCBR.. I've just exceeded my Weimy breed knowledge Doing well for a dog that isn't even in your group! Blue weis brings to mind silver labs.

  21. I only know a little because I hang out with Wei people at shows but as far as I know blue weis are incorrect, they are a dilution of black and a disqualifying fault. They can crop up as surprises in litters (I think) but no breeder that is ethical breeds blue weis. Long hair is not a fault is it a seperate variety, like collies or daschunds.
  22. I got my new crate today! It's so big I think I can fit all three dogs in it with room for another one! I think I will be only bringing the one crate (or large inclosed ex pen ) to nationals.
  23. Lincoln was the same (and still has the odd sit) but has improved with time and expirence (sit was not the first think I taught him, he only learnt sit last week) I found that I have a command to stop and where I adjust his feet (stand) and then I say watch and he stares at my hand knowing food is in there and he will get it if he keeps standing.
  24. There is no way I would recommend a breed with herding instinct to someone with kids that young, my old border used to herd kids and my kelpie cross tries to herd kids. Plus both breeds can get mouthy. I think since the OP has had issues with a larger very active breed and kids a smaller and calmer breed would suit. In agility Cavaliers,Papillons and Poodles do extremely well, from other peoples recoomendations they seem to be popular for people with young kids.
