At What Age Do You Start Training?
RallyValley replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am the total opposite, Lincoln is 5 months and only we have only done manners and show stuff. I am not expirenced enough to know what I am doing with the more formal stuff properly so I am waiting till I join classes (this week) before attempting it in case I teach him the wrong thing, its much easier to teach right from the start then re-teach. -
Irish Terriers were the poor man's farm dog. Nothing "snobby" about them. Certainly nothing snobby about Kelpies! Chesapeakes are another traditionally working class dog, its why they are protective, to stop people taking off with your ducks.

Obedience Class In Perth?
RallyValley replied to Sharna3's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know that loads of vets offer puppy classes for socialisation and they can go before they are finished their vacs We checked that out with our vet but Harley was too old when we asked (10wks) and then the vet told us he's probably too big for the other puppies as they'd all be 8-12 wks old Try here: http://trainapuptime.com/ They cover basic obidiece and socialization and by the time it finishes there won't be a big wait until you start next term. -
My dad shares a factory with a guy who has a mastiffx who knows what and has been used at 'stud' 3 times in its less then two year life Why because there is a demand for cheap, big and menacing looking dogs, especially in lower socio-economic areas.
-
Westozmike, I cannot recommend these puppy classes highly enough: http://trainapuptime.com/ Very good understanding of different breeds, small class sizes .
-
Maybe you should divide it up and get dogs registered to each "address" :D Yep The stupid thing is, if they subdivided our block to residential size, even allowing for roads etc you could have well over 100 dogs in the same area Neighbours are no where near so really it isn't an issue how many dogs we have as long as they are looked after ;)

Agility Nationals Perth 2010
RallyValley replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Riverside Gardens in Bayswater is where I take the dogs to swim, it is probably the closest place to Maida Vale that isn't dirty water (usually). I live right near Maida Vale and find Riverside easiest to get to, it is off Milne ST but I don't know how to send a link. -
Unless your sneaky about things. I think if we move and getting a 3 dog licence will be hard we will just tell the council Lilly died and de-register her.

The ongoing support Lincoln's breeder is so great and helpful. Plus being able to trace m dogs lines back to 1900 is a thrill, as is being able to show.
-
There is no good place to live out this way.

In WA we have a couple of clubs that have training sessions which are basically just they turn on the lights and open the shed and members train how they like.

I'd try ringing because they don't always get back to you when you email. My class starts at 7.30 but I might get there earlier to watch the UD class. I'll bring the dvds on Thursday :D . ValleyCBR I have my multi dog application I submitted ( although not Shire of Swan all under Dog Act) a few off DOL have used mine to get theirs. Let me know if you want me to email it to you, no hassles if you word and prepare the document right! lol :D I believe that you already have done so and it was brilliant reading! At the moment it is more likely that we will stay in our shire in which case we will still be allowed the three. :D
-
I went down to rejoin but they'd already put the receipts/badges away so asked me to come back next week :p . I just remembered I can't go next week so it'll have to be the week after that. See you Thursday then. You bringing both dogs?
-
I won't be at Midland as thier classes are full so may just do Eden Hill with Lincoln. Anybody live in the shire of Swan and have a multi dog licence? Was it hard to get? My parents are looking at a 6 acre property out that way. I'd try ringing because they don't always get back to you when you email. My class starts at 7.30 but I might get there earlier to watch the UD class. I'll bring the dvds on Thursday .

hmm might need to email them and make sure I can join. I'm not sure about the beginners class but the obedience starts back tonight after the break over the school holidays. I'm taking my two so might see you there and I'll see you at Eden Hill on Thursday .
-
Does anyone know when Midland starts obidience again? I am considering going with Lincoln to the beginners class because it is so close to home.

I could always ask J if you can do a NFC Novice jumping round with Abbey Although she may be preggers then... But I understand the liklihood of others wanting someone else to handle their dog, especially a newbie handler, are slim I would offer you Toby to run when I am at work so have to miss trials but he is too naughty and it wouldn't be something to get you into agility but something that would scare you away
-
:D Well I am not very good at estimating distances at all! It may also appear longer from the gallery .
-
I have the opposite with Toby, he does well in the heat but shivers if the temp gets below 15 :D

I was told yesterday RS that starting this year there is a new title for succsessfully completeing all 3 retrieves in 5 trials regardless of placings. They are trying to make the sport more approcable! Sounds good! Silly question but how far are the retrieves?? The length varies, yesterday the first retrieve was about 60-70m, the second one was maybe 150m and over two hills and through a river and the final one was probably around 250m out in the river. The first retrieve and parts of the second the handler couldn't see the dog so it looked super tricky and relied on lots of trust. It's not like tracking with set distances, it's just whatever the judge decides.

Eagle Pack - Holistic Selet
RallyValley replied to MavericksMission's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I started Lincoln on EP Holistic Select, I gradually changed onto it, so no rushing and have been feeding it exclusively for close to a month. It has been great for his weight but his poos are soft, yellow and it looks like I am feeding him cheap dog food. We are starting on Nutro now because I have my older dogs on that and they do teriffic on it, thier coats are great, thier weight is easy to maintain and my older girl has really gotten a bit of spark back she didn't have on Euk. -
Thats sad about Scoota, but funny about the birds. I love animals with fur only so dead birds don't fuss me (now I sound horrible ). This time 3 years ago I entered Scoota in his first retrieving trial. At the State Agility Champs he jumped up to get a teddybear I was holding and his back legs collapsed and he has been "injured" ever since. To be honest knowing what I know now he would have broken down very early on and I am not sure he has the "drive" when the going gets tough. Me I have an issue touching dead things - so I used to wear gloves when holding the bridies and I couldn't stand it when the birdies used to look at me Pathetic isn't it

Did they do presentations while you were there - just interested as there were 4 labs from the same litter entered and also fetchemups baby as well. I only stayed for the first half, I am not 100% sure of the rules but fetchemups FCR girl brought back the bird every time! One of our DOLers was competing and I think they might have stayed for the afternoon trial, so hopefully they will come on and post some results! :D
