  1. Dont feed them the day of the trip either, only up your chances of them being sick. Feed the night before and when you arrive. The pound staff had them all feed once before we left and we had so many sick, and you have to stop and clean it up cause the smell is just too bad, so better they be a little hungary. It added over an hour to a 6 hour trip
  2. We do the Mildura to Melbourne Pound run once a month. Cats behave better in the dark so i would cover the crate, they rarely toliet in the 6hrs it takes. Dogs most of the time make the 6hrs too without tolieting (we have up to 12 dogs with us so they dont get a stop we just go as fast as we can) If you drive at the speed limit it is 9hrs melbourne to Sydney, you will only need 1 fuel stop so I would just keep going if you can. We use to stop on our runs and walk the dogs but it just unsettled them, of course it would be easier with just one dog but I think 2 stops would be more than enough for him
  3. If a dog with socialisation issues shouldnt be taken To class how do you suggest people socialise them?
  4. This is what i worry about. We have had 1 incident when we were out 2 months after we had been leaving them together, ended with foster getting a few stitches. I havent left a foster with my dogs since and dont think i will again
  5. Back to the group you got him from is always first option. Where are you located? Might help people with suggestions
  6. This is the reason I am thinking I might stop fostering after my current dog I couldn't PTS a dog that I could manage and how can you trust someone you don't know to not put the dog in a situation where he could hurt himself or someone else.
  7. I was at the RSPCA looking for my mothers escaped dog 2 weeks ago, and the lady told me they PTS all the unpapered Staffys, whilst I was looking for Mums staffy X. I think it really depends on which pound they end up in, its certainly not a good time for them
  8. He is booked in with Barry Haywood next week Couldn't get in with Ray for 2 months
  9. Peiluvr If everything falls through and your willing to take I'm sure I could get him moved to you. The sooner you let me know the better as I am going overseas tomorrow but my husband and Dad can help move him no problems
  10. I actually had the reverse problem in that a little toy dog wanted to play with my big goofy foster. It kept barking getting my dog to chase him, and the owner had left its lead attached. Well mine chased and played fine but kept stepping on the lead and the poor dog was being flipped and rolled etc It was a minpin and i was sure it would break its leg if mine stood on him, we left as i was terrified something would happen, other owner couldnt care. We go to the dog park once a week and if im not happy with a dog there we just leave. Maybe take that approach, if there is a dog you dont want yours playing with just leave. You cant control the other owners, and as much as people like to complain about them on here there is no point. Just leave and try another day
  11. I am going away for 4 weeks, and hubby is joining me for 2. We still have a foster we hoped would be gone to his forever home, but no such luck Anyway for the 2 weeks my 2 dogs are going to stay with my parents and one of my friends is coming to stay with the foster. As it is a bit of work maintaining pack order and we don't trust anyone to do it so that is why we are splitting them up. Anyway I'm concerned the foster might bark all day as he is use to company, I am going to leave a bone for him each day but does anyone have any other ideas of things that might keep him happy?
  12. We are in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne I heard there is a good on in Narre Warren?? But I can't find it on google I don't mind traveling but between 9-5 the time it takes to get the dog there and home is the limiting factor. As we are taking maybe 3hrs of work time, after 40 minutes there, waiting, appointment, 40 minutes home and 40 minutes back to work
  13. Ok well I tried to book in with Monash Vets and 13th of August is the first available appointment with Ray Ferguson. So not much good, and the other vet the does joints is only available mornings. Add to that distance and I can't get him there and go to work. So back to square one. Thanks for all the suggestions though. It has been 2 months with him doing it on and off so a simple strain seems to be out
  14. After reading the comments I am more convinved it is something to do with his foot rather than a joint. He doesnt stretch it out like my dog who has the knee problem does, just holds it off the ground. Anyone know what dogs do if its their hip?? I'm a dance teacher so quite good at looking for odd movement if i know what I am looking for. I will check his pad again tonight, we have had him a couple of months but you never know. If that fails I guess we try the chiro, though my vet is quite good and he checked him while he was under so I don't know if a chiro will be able to get a better look.
  15. He is a cross breed, Brindle so would say staffyx but he is bigger and body shade and head shape are wrong for a staffy. Size he is between a Staffordshire bull terrier and Lab We don't jog with him often, just to get away from another dog (he likes to bark and with 3 its best avoided) and last time it started to rain so just a block home. This is also an issue being dealt with so no need for anyone to go into it He bounds around the house no problem he also chased my dog round a park for about 10 minutes non stop and no issue. He is one year old so I don't think it would be arthritis
  16. My foster dog carries one of his legs sometimes, mainly when I take him for a jog. I have had him at the vets twice, the vet can't find a problem with the joints at all and I have a lot of faith in him as he picked up my own dog having a clicky knee 1 month after we adopted him and 3 years before he showed any issues with it. The vet has suggested maybe his pad is a bit sensitive, so we got him a shoe for it but he walks spaz with it on so it is hard to tell if that is helping or not. While I ran up and down the carpark at the vet with the dog he wouldn't carry it (figures). But the vet said his body language was showing no signs of pain. While this wouldn't be a problem for my own dog, I don't know what I should do about rehoming, I can't fix a leg the vet can find no problems with.....
  17. Any scruffy terrier. Too head strong and limited attention, along with poorly groomed We have a staffy and a maltx jack
  18. My vet said my biy has a grade 3 and he carries it quite often when he is running, but he also said we didnt need to treat straight away. We decided to wait 6 months due to holidays we had planned and he had no problem with that. Id get a second opinion some vets are quick to upsell and you need to trust they are giving the right advice
  19. When i rehome i say the breed is a guess and that it can be whatever breed they would like. If it makes them happy and they look after their dog who cares.
  20. We just do pound dogs privately. Yes i know its not a silver bullet but its better than nothing. Everyone we move for knows its pound dogs and unquarantined. All I am saying is that if its open and everyone knows then why not move them to where they can be looked after? The other option is PTS. Quarantine is then up to the groups so i cant say what happens there. The reason I said kennel cough is the main issue is because some have it, never had one come down with parvo after we moved them. I agree they should be quarantined but I dont think it matters if it is before or after transport.
  21. I transport Mildura to Melb unquarantined. They have all been parvac so the main issue is kennel cough/cat flu Unfortunately there is no other option, i dont see the issue moving them unquarantined if everyone knows thats the deal. It is up to the groups to quarantine once in Melbourne
  22. Id be complaining to whoever you can
  23. Did she ask him why? When i was a kid we use to jump into peoples backyards to get toys back that had ended up there. A dog wouldn't have ever put me off
