Hi, I didn't get a response for a few days, so sent them an email that is listed in their home page on the left hand side. They responded straight away stating that they did get my email but I never received it for some reason. Anyway I ordered a 5lt container of Talc and it arrived today - only took 2 days from paying to receiving. All went very smoothly and I can't wait to start using it. I'm off to buy some spray bottles tomorrow!! :D

Help - Digging Fauves - Suggestions?
Adnil444 replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi, I also had a problem with my dogs digging in the lawn (as well as the garden beds). I laid chicken wire over the entire lawn. It has worked a treat. My lawn has never looked so lush (mind you we have had a lot of rain!). The lawn has grown through the wire, however, my lawnmowing man won't use his lawnmower over the wire, he just uses his whipper snipper, which is a pain sometimes as the grass cuttings are everywhere, but at least the lawn no longer has holes. I do have a digging area for my dogs which they use a lot - one of mine particularly likes to dig and lie down in the hole where it is cool. I have lots of shade and shelter in the yard. I'm about to put in a doggy door so they will have access to the house and the yard, as they wish, and I think this will make a huge difference as I know they love being inside (even if I'm not home) and they never destroy anything inside. They are happy to be on their inside beds but will have the choice of going outside. Hope this helps. -
Hi, I'm with Bow Wow Meow. I've been with them for over 2 years now and only cover for accidents (cruciate ligaments etc are covered). I pay $29.50 a month for 2 dogs (doberman x rottie and a doberman x kelpie). I also have a $100 excess. I'm about to make my first claim tomorrow so up until now I can say I've been very happy as I haven't had to claim, but we will see. I'm hoping it will be a simple process and my refund comes through without any fuss. Hope this helps.

Hi, I've used the Sporn harness as well with great success. I've tried the halti and the gentle leader head collar and they didn't work for me. The Sporn harness made an instant difference. Hope this helps.

Wow, I was just browsing this and I'm off to get some too - great work everyone and thanks VJB for getting us onto this (you should ask for commission!). I often wonder if my house smells and hope that it doesn't (I have those 6 week airfreshners around the place and always have the windows wide open) but you just never know - my nose is probably totally immune to it. Great work.

Teaching Older Dog To Use Doggie Door?
Adnil444 replied to mtchairs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi, I have just purchased a Staywell aluminium large doggy door of ebay - much cheaper than the pet stores. Check out other websites as well to save. Mine will be installed by the carpenter that is installing my new exterior back door. They already know how to use one as my mum has one and when we stay with her, they learnt how to use it. Putting a treat on the other side and coaxing them through is all that it took - once through they never looked back. Great to have, and saves having to get up and down to let them in and out. -
Hi, I also have this problem (but to a much lesser extent). I actually got rid of the trees in my backyard that were attracting them - the ones with berries etc. I have a couple of gums but because they are so large and tall, the possums are up very high, if in fact they do come in the yard, which seems to be very rare nowadays.

What Breeds Actually Fall Under Bsl?
Adnil444 replied to PrincessCharming's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Geo, I understand what you are saying, but the fact remains that these dogs do attack people (whether they be pure or crosses). I don't have a pit bull but I understand that human aggression was a trait that was not desirable and those dogs that were, were dealt with or not bred from. I also understand what you are saying about your dogs - I'm sure you and the others on here all love, care and do the right thing by your dog(s) and people in the community. Dog aggression or aggression towards other animals is also something that is not acceptable. From what I can gather from other posters on BSL, these breeds are not for everyone, certainly the majority cannot be taken to dog parks to mix with other dogs. I think the reason why PBT are singled out here is because they are already in this country, most of the other breeds in the BSL are not yet here, and let's hope they never do arrive. I was reading an article the other day about someone wanting one of the Ovcharka breeds (Russian breeds, certainly not suitable for family pets). The reason this person wanted one was because it looked nice!! Well I'm sorry but because a dog looks nice isn't a reason to have one. I googled the breed (this breed consists of several within this grouping) and you wouldn't want to come across one. There are plenty of morons out there that want a status symbol; an extension of their manhood etc etc - why else do they need to walk them with massive studded collars and harnesses (also the dogs that I have seen do not resemble what I would call a pure APBT - correct me if I am wrong, but I thought they were smaller, more athletic dogs, not these massive muscle bound creatures). Perhaps your last paragraph holds some truth in it - if every tom, dick and harry owned a pit bull, the novelty would soon wear off - not much fun having a dog that everyone can have. Nothing makes people want something moreso than if it is banned. It comes down to responsible dog ownership - I totally appreciate that there are people who are wary of my dogs (rottiexdoberman and a dobermanxkelpie) and I respect that and I would never put my dogs or more importantly these people in a situation where they felt threatened. Mind you both of mine are extremely dog friendly and people friendly, but alot of people out there don't have dogs, are afraid of them. I can only hope that with education people will learn more about the pit bull and that they can and do make wonderful pets, however only in the right hands. You see at the dog park every day people who have chosen the wrong breed for them and their lifestyle and once the owner can no longer control the dog, the dog is sentenced to the backyard with little stimulation, contact, socialisation etc and eventually will either be dumped or sent to the pound. The ones that remain locked in yards become ticking time bombs and then when something does go wrong, the media will be onto it and the cycle continues. Perhaps the PBT owners need to do something like the GSD group did to lift their ban. Have info days, have shows etc, let the public see what these dogs can really be like unlike the ones that are portrayed in the media - the ones the morons of our society have. I would love to come along to an PBT day and learn all about them. I just wish the undesirables and the morons would stop breeding there version of a pit bull, and get themselves a Cavalier instead. -
Distribution Of Single And Multi-dog Households.

Hi, I have 3 dogs on the northern beaches of Sydney - 1 rottiexdoberman, 1 dobermanxkelpie and one mini schnauzer. -
OzPit, you have hit the nail on the head - great postings. The morons of society are out there in force unfortunately and until they personally suffer (whether personally or financially) I don't think they will get the message. You see them, strutting their stuff with pit bulls that are not what I would call a classic or true pit bull (I thought, correct me if I am wrong) that a true pit bull isn't a massive muscle bound, huge headed creature, but quite an athletic compact dog. They spend a fortune on studded bits and pieces and think they are so cool - personally I think that they must have a small penis, otherwise why do they need this extension to make them look cool, tough or whatever. They are a joke, however a joke in the wrong hands is often lethal.

What Breeds Actually Fall Under Bsl?
Adnil444 replied to PrincessCharming's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not here GABBA, or at least not openly. They've been banned from import for many years. Personally I can live with the import bans on Tosa, Presas and Dogos. I've got nothing against these dogs in responsible hands. Its the fact they find their way out of such hands that worries me. Definitely a dog that an owner should have to be licensed to own after meeting suitability criteria. If that were done, I'd have no problems with them being here. This is where the problem lies - the fact is they WILL end up in the wrong hands and they will cause enormous damage to other animals and people. I have tried to understand why it is that the certain people own these types of dogs - you don't see many amstaffs, pitty type dogs etc in the middle to upper classes (I'm not trying to be snobby here, but stating a fact), is it because there are more lawyers in these areas that don't want a legal situation on their hands if something goes wrong, have these people researched the breed of dog they want more so than others that just want a status symbol etc. Can anyone explain this to me - I'm just curious. If these banned dogs were allowed in, you can bet your bottom dollar you won't find them in Mosman, Northern Beaches (Sydney), or any of the other middle to upper suburbs of different states. They will be found in areas where education maybe lacking and responsible dog ownership is not encouraged. You will also find that the backyard breeders, making a quick dollar, but not being a registered breeder will breed from the wrong dogs for the wrong reasons and sell to the wrong people. I'm all for responsible people having these dogs, under strict guidelines, but history has shown that this does not work, will not work and can easily be twisted - look at the drug trade in Australia. All the rules in the world cannot stop this trade, it will continue as will the wrong people having the wrong type of dog. I also agree that any dog can become aggressive, but not every dog will kill, this again is a big difference when we are talking about BSL - these dogs were bred to kill or be killed. Just like a beagle was bred to sniff a scent, a trait that continues with them always, these BSL dogs will always have that instinct and only an extremely dedicated owner/trainer should be allowed to own them, but for the reasons stated above, this won't happen, they will find there way into the general community and into the wrong hands. With so many wonderful breeds to choose from, why does anyone want a BSL breed - all dogs are loyal, all dogs love you, it just isn't worth the risk. -
Hi, if you haven't already got one, I have one that I was going to sell on ebay. I'm in Dee Why. It is a plastic one that comes apart and is a sized for a dalmation/smaller lab. Let me know.

Hi, I have a Subaru Forester and it is perfect for my two dogs (dobermanxkelpie and dobermanxrottie). I also have the cage separating the back where they are from the back seats. My windows are tinted as well and having the air con certainly helps. Hope this helps.

I was only speaking to a South African man (with his Ridgeback) at the dog park the other day about these dogs. He was asked by a friend what they are like as they were thinking of getting one - he said absolutely No! From his growing up in Sth Africa he saw many times the damage these dogs have done - they are bred to guard and maybe ok with a family who is responsible etc, but unfortunately they will fall into the wrong hands and you can see where this is going. They are known for their aggression. This man went on to say that he remembers seeing in the papers numerous times where these dogs turned on their own family members. However, he also went on to say that with the situation in Sth Africa with black Africans taking over white South African farms/properties, that he would want no other dog around him to protect him and his family than a boerboel. Again this is a breed that will need a strong leader and very responsible owner committed to socialising and training.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it - I can only imagine (though I don't want to) what is happening in this clip. Anything that harms children and animals I just cannot understand - they have no choice or say in the matter. Unfortunately for the APBT (and crosses) the morons of society are attracted to them - little education, little resources etc and they have no idea on how to raise and look after any dog - they are bred/purchased because it makes them look cool, tough or whatever and then discarded when the novelty wears off - or locked in a yard going insane and that's when trouble can occur. It wasn't that long ago when Dobermans were the "bad" dogs, then German Shepherds, then Rotties and the APBT is having its turn. Killing the breed it not going to get rid of the morons/idiots that create the problem in the first place. So sad.

Hi, in my experience with dogs (over 40 years) it is a lottery with purebreeds and with crossbreeds. I now have 2 crossbreeds (doberman x kelpie and a doberman x rottie) and I couldn't be happier. I've had purebreeds in the past and the same breed can have lots of differences and puppies from the same litter have many differences (or behavioural traits). If the parents are of even sound temperment and are healthy, I think this mix would be fine as long as you socialise and exercise and train from an early age and continue to do so - this would go for all puppies regardless of breed. If you are concerned about the puppies, have them vet checked beforehand. All dogs (regardless of breed) have issues, there is no perfect dog, however how you raise and train the dog will be what is important. Good luck with your decision.
