i worked as a triage nurse at the make shift vet clinic after the fires in kinglake and volunteered with the rspca in whittlesea. the people and animals from these areas were just wonderful and so unbeliveably strong! kinglake isnt close but im still willing to help out with transport and donations and foster care of small animals. please pm me with nay information on how to help

i wouldnt reccommend large or big breeds dogs to a first time owner purely because if a big dog gets out of control it is harder to restrain than a small breed dog. without the experience in how to train and handle a dog, size really does matter. ie; an excited chi jumps up on you it doesnt cause that much damage vs an excited rotti jumping up on you. the fundementals of dog training are all the same across the breeds, with slight differences, and yes it does depend on the individual dog, and the individual person. but, if i was asked my opinion regardless of not knowing the dog and humans personality i would pick: cavalier, pug, and staffy. pretty safe, friendly even tempered dogs (generally), the pug and staffy both have short hair that dont need to be overly groomed. i had a 'second hand' miniature poodle as my first dog. steep learning curve but a rewarding lesson none the less hyperactive, overly intelligent, daily grooming, manipulative, little dog syndrome, handsome, moody, protective and utterly awesome :D

oh how horrible!!!! i really do hope you and morrisson recover quickly like most people have said, get morrisson to socialise with friendly dogs as soon as possible. at my clinic we had a dog who got viciously attacked by another dog, it resulted in the attacked dog being fearful of pretty much any social situation. it was so hard to deal with, jumpy and noisy. it was still loved but it would have been very hard to live with for the owner. the owner, an elderly lady, was also attacked trying to help her dog i do believe that if you are safe from harm you can get your dog help, however if you are attacked and injured, your dog cant drive itself to the vet or phone for help, so even if you feel guilty, you have done the right thing in the end by getting your dog medical care. to se7en - i cant believe that situation. it makes me physically sick i used to be a 'small dog' owner and am now a large dog owner, i get so much fear from small/smaller dog owners when walking my babies and they are usually the aggressors too, but the looks on the other peoples faces is one of disgust and fear, for no reason oh and peoples suggestions on riding crops and umbrellas: the other week i was walking with my two dogs secure on haltis and i was about to pass a couple walking in the other direction. the male picked up an object from a nerby hard rubbish pile, i really did think he was arming himself against my dogs. one of my dogs, seeing a stranger with a strange object in his hands became nervous. if it were another dog with an inexperienced owner they may have had a go at the man because he looked threatening. and if my dog had of he would have been protecting me and himself. it really was a scarey possible situation. i moved my dogs to the nature strip (which i always intended on doing) to let the couple pass, the lady then started quizzing me on breeds and behaviour, im still apprehensive to what their intention was

oh my goodness this is the worst thread ever!!!!! I've never read something so heart breaking! my puppy is soooooooo naughty!!!!! i'm so jealous of you guys and your beautiful puppies lol! i think you've had your fun, and now you can stop talking about your wonderful dogs because its just too unfair for people like me who have a little monster my little foster puppy is around 11wks old and is possible the dumbiest naughtiest puppy in the world, his name should be Marley, but that dog was good compared to my little one! he is the most, THE MOST, adorable little being in the world in the looks department he checks all the boxes and gets an A+ for that, but he has everything else back to front. he is a lab x, possibly with a gremlin??? poor confused little guy i've never met a puppy that is so hard to toilet train, and one that pees and poops so much, its endless! he bites and cant stand being alone. He also has a massive overbite, but that actually just adds to the cuteness . maybe i am being a tad too harsh on him, maybe ive just met awesome puppies up until now? lol its not a great advert for a dog thats looking for a home is it? he did the cutest thing the other day, it was very naughty, but cute. he bolted inside and went straight for the cats food. he slid around the corner into the laundry where the food is and when i caught up to him he was lying on the ground splayed out with his head in the bowl inhalling all the food!! he didnt even bother to stand up lol!!!! i wish i had taken a photo i dont regret fostering him though, way better than him ending up in the pound where he was about to go. poor little confused mite lol anyone want a puppy?

oooh fantastic article! i wonder if the same can be said for cats? feral vs owned? i did a similar experiment with my two dogs, both german shep cross breeds. we were walking and they went through a bike shed at a school and didnt realise they couldnt get out the end. one dog, the shep x american staffy wasnt phased and simply went back to where she got in. The other dog, shep x miscellaneous, possibly dingo, just looked at me for help and starting crying! the wierd thing is the shep x miscellaneous (6yr male) is very smart, quick thinking and obedient, whereas the german shep x amstaff (2yrs old female) is naughty and disobedient and a slow learner. it was a suprising shock and made me realise that the male maybe isnt smarter, he is probably just more respectful and eager to please, whereas the naughtiness in the female could really be her stuborness and ability to think outside the box, and to think for herself and not rely on my instruction? in the wild i would definetly assume that she would survive the longest, but by god i wish she would just listening to me sometimes! i dont think there is anything wrong with a dog who dotes and sucks up to his master lol! makes life a whole lot easier
