  1. yep, have definitely seen this one before, I think over a month or two ago
  2. I thought it was the CEO of the council too - seems a very strange comment either way
  3. don't think so, as she has moved a couple of times (due to the marriage breakup) - and yes, it is very sad, I am at the point I just can't talk to her, knowing what her attitudes are with all of this, but I still keep trying, for the animals sake, as they should not have to suffer because she is too impatient with them and wants a quick fix. A pet is afterall for life, through thick and thin - sadly she also has this same discard policy with the whole of her life anyway, which is why she is on hubby no 3 at age 49.
  4. sadly I bet she is not joking - found out today that my sister (who is the one stupid enough to have bought a pug x cavelier (refuse to call it the made up name) from a certain pet store in Carrum Downs for $900, has yet another RIP next to her name - I knew she had put down their first dog when it started to be destructive (told their kids it had run away), then had yet another run away (2nd dog they had - another PTS as she was going through marriage breakup, and the dog was an inconvenience), and when on her own, she took in a stray kitten - it also "ran away" or so she told her kids - today I found out she also had it PTS as it had a habit of digging in claws and biting and then running off - Did she ask for any advice with any of these or seek vet or behavioural help - NO, her solution to all her problems is to PTS. I fear for the current dog, as my mum has told me she is having some troubles getting it to toilet train - for dogs sake, it is still only 4 months old. I have given mum the name of a couple of places she can seek advice from to pass onto my sister, as well as here, but given her history of wanting the easy solution, am betting against her doing any of that - just getting rid of them and moving onto another is her way of doing things. Makes me
  5. yep, loved that image, used the wide angle to great effect. Thought the 60's model would have looked super on the bike on a different colour background
  6. first time have agreed with the shot they picked as winner, although agree would have been better if the horse was just a step or 2 closer, loved the shot of the guy but thought if there had been a horse in that would have been far better. Thought the double exposed shot looked more like accident than deliberate, and she really looked like she had no idea what she was doing. And what was she thinking taking shots of the ceiling thing - how on earth was that gong to convey a day at the races (guess the same way a kid tying a tie meant a wedding, when he could have been tying a tie for anything - a funeral, a first date, going out to a dress up function - not just a wedding!!)
  7. yeah, but people like stuff that Pixie Photo produce too - only because they don;t know what a better photographer would do
  8. didn't actually like any of the shots they picked as their faves, to me they had some much better stuff they shot which they showed during their shoots. I really thought the one they picked as a winner did not even say wedding to me - they boy could have been getting dressed for anything, and had thought the mother and daughter getting ready was much more touching. Also thought the colour balance being off on the shot, and so much OOF (which I think judging by her shots at that time was totally user error rather than deliberate), and just did not do it for me. For the other shooters, I think some of the candids she got during the ceremony, and that initimate shots of the couple during the dancing would have made it for me. Thought that a lot of what they showed was total crap though, either OOF, awful lighting, and no thought - just because someone says not cheesy and unposed doesn't mean you still don;t need to do a bit of work - unposed does not mean you don;t give an element of direction to ensure there is no hair in eyes, or paricularly with girls, that they don;t have certain body parts looking unflattering (thinking arms, necks etc here). Very disappointed with what I thought was going to be a great series, and has left me underwhelmed so far - I mean a couple of them were using wider angled lenses, did not have the lens hoods on, and then no doubt wondering why their initial photos were so light and overexposed - hello, the lens hood??????????
  9. OK, learn something every day, guess I had not considered that aspect of using an older dog
  10. would have thought that by the time they were 11, if they had not already produced a son who was better than them in quality and to the standard, which is surely what breeders are aiming to, then I would not have been continuing to use that line. Think this is something that in Vic will also be addressed under the breeding cats and dogs regulaions, that animals that old can either only be used after a vet letter okaying them, or that they have to be retired at a certain age.
  11. helped out some of the rescue groups here in Melbourne at a function last year, offered all of them free photography afterwards for any rescue dogs, and not one ever bothered even thanking me for the photos I took at the activity which I supplied so they could update their dogs profiles nor contacted me afterwards. Shame really
  12. but Big Ted promised this would not happen with his BSL........... afterall, all the "bad" dogs are illegal now. Oops BT guess it just shows your BSL ain't worth a pinch of poo, like we didn't know that before
  13. yelled at them, felt bad for the place loaning them such wonderful cameras, god the guy who couldn't work out why it was taking so long to shoot and no idea what F stop he was on - Dick Smith even knew more about it than him
  14. these are a couple of things I found when searching on the technique - one has step by step directions link here and from the guy himself here
  15. looking at the Brenizer website, I think one of the things is that you still need to have interesting foreground and background there, and the subjects seem to be more straight on, not sideways. Still not my cup of tea, as I don;t really see the point of taking heaps of photos and combining them into 1 mega photo like that, but each to their own. You were the one who said though that you were paying with bokeh, this is not bokeh, but as you have now clarified bokehrama, a totally different thing, or as the creator of this technique says, bokeh as it relates to landscape in trying to recreate the look of medium format with panoramic stitching of multiple images all taken at maximum aperture. Nothing I photograph is going to stay still for 30 seconds long enough to do the shots!
  16. Bokeh is described as the way the lens renders out of focus points of light - if there is no light in the area, then it is just blur so totally disagree. Here is an example of what I am talking about as out of focus points of light, Snooks example above also shows the style you are trying to copy looks with light behind. Perhaps a different time of day and different setting are needed for what you are after, but still not my cup of tea, but that is what I guess makes the photography world interesting, so many different styles
  17. sorry, not my cup of tea, and really makes the dog look like it was photoshopped on as an afterthought. Proper bokeh does not look like this, it looks more like a Monet, this just looks OOF
  18. just wrong, and even sadder, some of the cat hater comments on the article too
  19. Love the 2nd one, the first one, if it was me, I would crop off about a 1/3 from the right, so it is more on the bump, the arms at the back bother me as they are chopped, and the arm furthest away from the camera looks a little wierd JMHO
  20. most important thing in landscape is to have the 3 components (aside from the obvious te4chincal stuff of sharp images, correct exposure for what you are wanting to do etc0< and that is to have foreground middle ground and background interest, and ideally not have the eye drawn through and then out of the picture, but to have it drawn around and back again For me, there is enough going on in all of these to achieve that - the tree you are worried about in no 3 actually helps provide that framing, so definitely needs to be there. If you want to try something different though, - don;t forget to change angles - not everything needs to be taken at the same height - try some up a bit higher than normal eye level, some lower, even lying on the ground, it is amazing how different things can look when the point of view is changed. Love the light processing too, I am not in favour of heavy handed processing. As for these, the one thing to try to conjur with landscape is a feeling in the eye of the beholder who was not there and feeling the same stuff you were when you took the shot, and I certainly do with these - can just feel the crispness of the air, the feeble rays of the sun as it is first rising above the horizon, the birds starting to wake and call, great job
  21. So sorry to hear this, there are scum out there wh hate cats, one reason I will only sell my kittens to indoor only homes, the world out there can be sick. RIP Cookie, at least you got to know true love and care from K9angel, who showed she is also a feline angel too, run high and free over the bridge, and know how many lives you touched in such a short time with your struggle. Your absense will be felt.
  22. do you want any cc on these? If so, then would suggest - 1 - watch the shadows under the eyes, as these can make people look panda eyed, and make her look like she has bags under there Wish the post was not at her head, and think the other hand should be visible for symmetry 2 the stick near the hand and the chopped off legs bother me, together with once again having her dead centre. I would also have removed the bracelet, to me it is distracting 3 Am guessing you shot this with a wide angle lens, as it has not been kind to the legs, making them look a little large Wish her toes had not been chopped off by the tree too. Love though hat you don;t have her centre here, but off to the side to give her room in the picture, and the clever framing traps the eye, ensuring it does not leave the picture Great job for the first time, I am sure it has given you a bit of a taste (or perhaps scared you off from ever doing it again - hopefully not!!!)
  23. nope, I chicken out when I see these comps, as I know that my stuff is just not to that level of awesomeness that the gold and silver are, but one day I might just get up the nerve to enter
  24. For anyone interested, Asukabook who sponsor this event, are hosting a livestream of the judging, so if you can't get to the PMA digital show this weekend, you can still watch the judging. Worth listening to the comments as they go along, no idea if they will have the chat room at the same time, as they are always fun to sit in, so it is like you are watching with friends. The link to watch is auskabook.appa12.com.au and judging commences 9am to around 6pm on Friday, Saturday & Sunday
