  1. Yep, and I have distinctly poked the bear in the cage it would seem, and the fanatics are not happy, have Mark Aldridge himself coming out for me now - these are some of his charming comments, after I said the water looked green in one of the photos I then replied with this and got this back
  2. that was me that made the comments about the green water - would not even let my horses drink from troughs that dirty. They don't like that being pointed out though, do they?
  3. The actual Oscar itself was stolen from a puppy farm originally, so no reason to be confused - their origins are based on supporting the trespass and theft of animals, but that is OK as far as they are concerned, if they percieve that the animals are better off with them. They are actually recruiting at the moment for more deluded people to spread the word - this is taken from their advocate information sheet - sounds awfully cult-like to me, esp the bit about them wanting 1 in 100 people Australia wide to have attended a speech by them within 10 years "OLAP aims to provide 50 grassroots advocates from around Australia with the tools, knowledge, leadership, access and networks necessary to promote the realisation of animal welfare and strengthen their respective community’s awareness of factory and companion animal farming practices. OLAP’s comprehensive program of advocacy, networking, presentation skills-building, and academic coursework provides advocates the opportunity to hone practical skills, develop a deeper understanding of animal welfare, and foster mutually beneficial relationships with organisations and individuals in their respective fields and beyond. In the wake of public concern of puppy factories, a variety of trainers, including Oscars Law founder Debra Tranter, will train volunteer advocates to deliver an Oscar’s Law presentation, which expands to include animal protection and enforcement, the promotion of rescue shelters and ethical consumer choices. OLAP graduates will then go on to make presentations to their peers – becoming ordinary Australians inspiring extraordinary change. Strikingly, from commencement one of the core aims of the program is to meet a ratio of one in 100 Australians attending an animal rights presentation by an Oscars Law Advocate within the next 10 years." Just waffle and fluff, no real substance or facts And more emotive rubbish "Factory farmed dogs get no veterinary intervention when they need respite from their pain and suffering. They live in filth, sometimes without adequate food or water. Their coats are often matted with faeces and stained with urine. Ear infections and ear mite infestations are common as is painful dental and gum disease. Many dogs slowly go insane. They spin in circles or pace back and forth in their cells, some never see daylight, and the outside world is a foreign place to them. Should any dogs be lucky enough to be rescued once outside in the open they still circle and pace as if they are still incarcerated. They shy away from human hands as they have never known kindness. The dogs are deprived of even their basic needs as the current law is only concerned with food shelter and water. The dog’s psychological and social needs are ignored on factory farms.' "Breeding dogs are kept in large dirt pens surrounded by electric fencing wire to stop them escaping, the same way farmers keep cattle. Some factory farms keep their dogs hidden away in large tin sheds with rows and rows of concrete stalls, the same way farmers keep pigs. Whilst other dogs are kept inside sheds in rows of raised wire floor cages just like egg producers keep battery hens. Puppy factories and backyard breeders can have 30-40 dogs and some have up to up to 700 animals on one property. The dogs are kept in these horrific conditions for their entire lives and are constantly bred to supply pet shops and internet sites with cute fluffy puppies. Once the breeding dogs are no longer profitable, and after years of confinement and continual pregnancy they are taken out of their cages, pens and sheds and they are killed. Our best friends forgotten. This large scale extreme cruelty that takes place day after miserable day in the name of commerce. Puppy factory farmers, pet shops, puppy brokers, veterinarians, advertisers and even the Government all take their blood money from this horrendous cruelty. The puppy buying public are misled at every turn and picture the tiny pup they have just purchased has come from a loving environment — when nothing could be further from the truth." and then "Every day in Australia a dog is killed every 4 minutes in Council run pounds. We, the tax payer, are paying local Government to kill healthy dogs, dogs who just need a home. Meanwhile Local Governments are issuing more and more permits to puppy factory farmers to breed more and more dogs. Local Government are failing to properly inspect these puppy factories or enforce the mandatory Code of Practice. The State Government tell us "Pet Registration - Value for your dollar. Every dog and cat three months of age and over must be registered with your local council" They then tell us "What you get for your registration fees". It includes the following "Council monitoring of pet shops, boarding kennels, catteries, pounds, shelters, and pet breeding and training businesses. This ensures they meet basic animal welfare standards required by law”. So why aren't Oscar’s Law Advocates Program Page | 5 local councils enforcing the mandatory code of practice? What are they doing with our money? This is an absolute misuse of public funds as Local and State Governments have failed to use this money to enforce the law both at puppy factories and back yard breeders and consequently the breeding dogs are suffering. How totally irresponsible it is to allow the mass production and then the mass killing of companion animals. How effective is the Governments Responsible Pet Program which is financed by you — the tax payer. Oscar’s Law will change the way that animals are kept, bred and sold. OLAP Overview After completing the intensive two day program, Advocates will be able to more effectively lobby for the causes and address the animal welfare concerns within their schools, universities and communities. The comparative advantages of the Oscar’s Law Advocates Program are its: • Comprehensive program of skills-building, networking, advocacy, and academic coursework. • Emphasis on individual and organisational awareness building. • Affiliation with Victoria University and its location in Melbourne. Advocate Tools Each Advocate will receive the following tools necessary to delivery their Oscars Law presentations. • USB containing Oscars Law Animal Advocate approved Power Point Presentation (including the pre school, high school and adult versions) • Oscars Law Animal Advocate Name Badge • Oscars Law Animal Advocate Satchel • Oscars Law Animal Advocate Training Manual • Oscars Law Pen • Oscars Law Animal Advocate Cap • Oscars Law Animal Advocate Accreditation." No one mention of the source of the statistics, no facts to back it up, just emotive garbage, and the fact that even all the stuff they are giving their disciples is all prepared, in 3 different versions, for them to go forth and spread the word, without 1 statement as to how exactly they are going to achieve any of this, other I guess than by their goal of getting rid of any breeders at all. The Law of which they speak is a furphy. Oh, but of course, it is still perfectly OK to have animals in pet shops though if they are rescue dogs, just not ones from breeders of any kind. Totally do not support this group at all, but know many misguided breeders who have stupidly fallen for their spiel, thinking if they align themselves with them, that their supporters will distinguish between the evil puppy mills, and themselves.
  4. not to mention the comment about how anyone coming to inspect must make an appointment as Lola has a life - if it was a breeder asking for an appointment time to be made, people would immediately be on the bandwagon screaming abuse and how they must have something to hide for sure if they want a definite time and date, given how the AR brigade are all about surprise and unannounced visits being fair game. Interesting how yet again, they think just because a place has the word "rescue", they can do no wrong
  5. no they don;t but the majority of the sales they run are not in that category. We live near Inglis sales at Oaklands, so quite familiar with them. In any case, the point is not about what horses go through the sale yards, but whether the RSPCA uses LPS to dispose of horses.
  6. would not be a huge no though going to the inglis sales - they do tend to go for way more than meat money at the sales
  7. ITA with above - who are you to judge his living conditions and treatment based on what he was like when he was found, you have no idea how long he has been missing or how far he her also travelled. Put yourself in the reverse shoes - would you like one of your dogs to go missing, and someone find him, decide that since he had lost condition that this meant you were a bad owner, and just keep him, denying you the chance to ever be reunited again? There is a law regarding what to do with found animals for a reason, so that owner is given a chance to reclaim the missing animal. To keep him and rehome him without following that process is theft, IMO., pure and simple
  8. I think the non AR people being sucked in truly believe that they are only stopping the places that they show in pictures - ie the tiny metal crates stacked one on top of each other, horribly matted dogs, etc etc -- and believe the OL line that they are not against responsible breeding. the fact that they say this because they do not believe there is any such animal as a responsible breeder is neither here nor there. I know quite a few breeders who are also OL supporters, as they wrongly believe that by aligning themselves with them, they can show they are different and will not be a target - what they fail to realise is that OL have an agenda, "one by one until there are none", and they apply that to everything - closing down Pets Paradise shops, getting rid of puppy farms, and getting rid of all breeders in general. Whilst the gov though benefits by as much as they do from the large scale farms, who pay massive permit and licence fees, and also GST on animal sales, no gov is about to stop that occuring, and will merely window dress to make it look like they have done something (something the Lb gov seems very good at), whilst removing the problem of breeders they can't benefit from. And ITA about the comment about how not to take comfort in the exemption status - whilst at the public hearing, it was made clear by the DPI that those figures could not change (as there was requests from the AR mob there that 10 was too high, it should be 4), they were told "that was a seperate piece of legislation, you want that changed, you need to lobby the minister for that piece to be altered" So don;t think for a minute they won;t try that, and all it takes is either reducing the figure or removing the exemption altogether, and we are all stuck with this nonsensical code that makes no sense at all. The craziness here too is that a rescue group or foster carer looking after a pregnant mum or hand rearing individuals does not have to do any of the stuff here being forced on the breeders, yet they too are ultimately supplying such pups or kittens to the pet market, and so have health and welfare issues.
  9. yes it is just as bad for the cats, and I certainly am not about to disinfect dishes they are then going to eat out of, that is ridiculous. They also have a bit in the cats about them being checked by a vet annually to see if they have FIP, a disease confirmable only by post mortem exam, and also a disease that can have similar symptoms to others. But doing all of it is OK< as since according to t, we sell kittens and puppies for $800 and $1000 respectively, but also MAKE $800 and $1000 on those same sales per animal, we can afford it. I'm sorry, what part of vet costs, feeding costs, health tests costs etc needing to be paid for do they not understand - any money made from the sale of a litter is no way in hell pure profit - it is lucky if any is profit once the actual costs of producing the litter are accounted for (and heaven forbid a c section was needed!!!) But ITA that this is purely designed to wipe out the problem of the hobby breeder, leaving just the large scale mills. predictably, sites like OL & PH are ranting that this is not enough, there is no changes and mills are scum and need to be wiped off the earth, equally predictably though, if you look closely enough, you can see the paw prints of the AR agenda all through this document, including the case story of Oscar being made a big part of it (strnagely they only refer to him as having been removed from the farm, not stolen)
  10. blame the animal righters for that and other changes to the animal keeping acts - what do you expect when you get morons who know nothing about animal husbandry being given equal if not higher weight on having input into living conditions compared to people who actually know what is best. Perhaps now you understand why breeders are upset at measures forcing them to have these sort of runs for living and rearing offspring in?
  11. yep, have a guy just down the road with a gun, come over here and spook our horses, and it will be the last thing it does
  12. you want to really have an insight into the whole world of crazy - check out a charming group on facebook called IHDB - or I hate dog breeders - you will really see just how much whacko is out there, and how they cannot be reasoned with in any way. Even more frightening though is clicking on their list of likers, and seeing just how many Australian groups agree with the sentiments expressed by the AR terrorists on there, and how much they consider any means whatever are worth "rescuing" dogs from evil "greeders". Having had a friend whose home was broken into last night, and her stud cat removed, and was later found dead outside, either from road accident or dog attack, she was not certain, make no mistake, some whacks are certainly amongst us.
  13. Ansell Adams, who many regard as one of the true master of film, would work for hours (if not days), in a dark room, exposing different areas of a negative (or plate), shielding others, until he got the image exactly the way he wanted it to look - the original exposure taken was just the starting point to his finished product, not the end point. if his work is regarded as classic photographic images, why then are images that are captured on a digital device, and then worked on and enhanced in different areas on a computer any less an image. The fact that our own eyes can see a range of at least 11 - 12 different exposure points at once 0 and can constantly adjust - for instance when you look from a bright area to a darkened area, but a camera (film or digital), can only do a range of 6 at once means that any image recorded will never match what we can see with our own eyes anyway, and it is only multiple exposures or bringing out of other details afterwards in the processing of the images that then allows an image to even begin to match what we see. I do however have a problem with calling straight out digital manipulation of images, into unreality as photographs, they should more correctly be called photographic art or perhaps digital art, as they then move from the realm of being a photographic image that has been digitally processed, and moved more into an interpretation that may be a total fantasy.
  14. voted for the scottie and to bring in the cat. I recently bought the Dr Who Limited Edition, and it has Dr Who relevant tokens (can't recall all of them off the top of my head though)
  15. hopefully next tme around they will organise the layout a bit better - felt for the challenging conditions described above, but having flyball right next to the cat show and bird display so that the excited barking of the dogs awaiting their turns set off the cats, the birds and the dogs in the display booths was something that could have been avoided with a bit more thought. A great weekend though, and a good chance for registered breeders to interact with the public, promote our breeds and try to counter the PeTA ethic running through so many rescue shelter groups
  16. certainly did not look like a feral at all, & I bet they suffered the injuries trying to get the cat in the cage - if they had stood the cage on its end and lowered the cat in, rather than trying to shove it face first, probably would have gone better for them, but easy for me to say from here not knowing whether they had enough cat savviness to know to do that
  17. organised by Annie Greenaway, or as members from here might remember her, Annie99 Will no doubt blame everything again, like on the facebook pages she frequents, on breeders for the number of animals claimed as excessive, in pounds and shelters, even though very few are purebreds from registered breeders
  18. had a snake removed from the front of our home a few years back. Our catcher told us he relocates about 20km away, as a snakes home range is about 6km, so relocated any closer like only 1km, and it will be straight back to its territory again
  19. hope Animals Australia or similar has not gotten hold of this info - if they have any name and address details, I would be worried about more than the potential for money fraud (which in itself is scary enough) - the potential for snatch and grab raids on breeders dogs is also a worry then
  20. would strongly urge everyone to have a say - Deathrow Pets, Animals Australia, Oscars Law pages on FB are all urging their own followers to bombard these people with their own views on how things should be done - unless you want AR driven legislation, like we are getting here in Vic, SPEAK UP NOW!!!
  21. according to the Age, he was charged under "Oscars Law" - hadn't actually heard that had passed into being yet, certainly think all the people campaigning saying they want Oscars law have heard it passed into being in 2011. Or maybe I have just been asleep and not noticed Big Ted sneaking yet another law change by us all
  22. gorgeous, you have whetted my appetite for Equitana next month!!!!
