  1. Hey corvus - come to watch the Waratah Club training. Usually Mondays 7.30 Horsley Park showgrounds We will be ther on Friday too this week, there will be a visitor there - a dog trainer for military police - ask him how high drive dogs are trained, what do they look for to determine if the dog is in drive and what do they do if the dog misbehaves. And you will see few pets that are being trained to compete, there will be obedieecne done in drive, drive development, etc. All in one big lesson of observation for you. But wait - it was you that said that there are no talented/good trainers in Sydney, right??? So perhaps to you it will be a pharse, who knows.....
  2. Considering corvus has no idea about "Steves" method, is she putting "training in drive" down? Any training in drive, by any trainer, by any organisation? K9: correct, but I think this one was being aimed a little closer than Police departments etc. You mean those Guide dog trainers are being targeted here?
  3. I actually can see how it can still be good. Say you have a dog that is drivey but chooses to satisfy this drive in a way that you don't want. I can see how separating even a very drivey dog from outside stimuli can help with focus in drive training, ie you would be building drive and focus on you for a particular object rather than something else. No point if even your driviest dog is wasting it on, say, chasing rabbits. I think we both mean the same thing, you jsut said it better I guess what I meant was - if the dog has plenty of drive there is not need to BULD MORE. The drive thats there can and should be appropriatelly directed, and a total separation is not needed for that, well JMHO.
  4. Separating the dog from the outside stimuli while building drive is not a new concept, when you think of the police dogs - this is exactly how they are trained - they spend days in kennels, and are being taken out only for training. For an owner that potentially wants to train in drive and lets say compete with his/hers dog that could do with more drive, it might be the way to go, but I personally dont see a need for it if the dog is VERY drivey. If the dog genetically has plenty of drive then there is no real reason to build it up right?
  5. Im assuming that you know that there are 3 "sections" that are equally importatnt in schutzhund (when considering the sport as a whole) And they are Obedience Tracking and Character assesment I always thought that majority of DOLers that are in the trainig section would be interested in at least obediecne. You are not? If you are only interested in law - perhaps your question should be asked on a law forum, not a dog training forum.... Werent we going to go together???
  6. Yes she pretty much is. She is no working dog, but has enough in her for me to enjoy some sports and not to whinge a lot about her :D She could be a handfull for someone with no experience, she can be OTT with energy at times.
  7. Ok - well she is a pig, she eats anything, and lots of it. So she tends to be a bit chubby most of the time and I have trouble keeping her weight normal. She will steal other dogs food if given half a chance. She has the most beautifull head, and very dark eagle like eyes. They are nearly black so they blend in with her fur and it makes her look serious. She is sweet and into everything, but has no problems guarding my place, will bark at anyone coming in, will bark at people on the street too sometimes if she considers them a problem. She loves to train, she loves the ball and will do anything for it. Fetch is her favourite game and as in the pics by Ruthless she get to the ball and 99% of the time does a roll over in the process of getting the ball in her mouth. She almost knows how to swim, but doing a kangaroo jump in the water is more fun then just swimming. And she follows her Mum and Rex as a shadow, they bark, she will immiediatelly bark too, even if she doesnt know why. She is also VERY cudly, the most cudly of my dogs, will shove her nose in my armpit or around my neck, just so she can be very close to me.
  8. Here is a video of her when she was 9 weeks old. I want her back like that, fat and wrinkly!!
  9. She was one of these... This was a new Krispe Kreme dougnut I desinged at the time. Secret recepie it is.... Rich dark chocolate outside and milk chocolate filling. Irresisteable
  10. It was yesterday, she is now 1. My baby is all grown up doggy woman, had her season a while ago and now I can no longer call her a puppy . Mind you she still acts like one I took her to the beach, it was pouring rain, but hey, I do go a lot of trouble to keep my dogs happy. After she killed me at the beach with her never ending energy for the ball, scratched me, pawed my legs in water, dug holes in the sand, gave me kisses with her sandy lips, she got some big bones to chew on. And later in the day a visit from Ruthless, where my dogs have done some modeling for Ruths leather goods. We got a tracking harness as a present - it was really for me, but Furia will be wearing it when tracking. Ruthless also took some shots of the birthday girl - and I hope some of them will be posted on DOL. here is a couple I took yesterday at the beach. This monster grew was sooo sweet at 6 weeks
  11. My biggest dissaster was last year at the Dobe Specialty. It was ALL MY PERSONAL FAULT I participated in WAE with Divani andbeen failed for apparently moving off the spot where I was not supposed to... I thouht she has done really well in the WAE and when I found out she failed I was p*ssed off BIG time. I cried and thrown things around, being a bad looser, and straight after I was entered with her in obedience. I run to the car got her out, and she was bit freaked out - no doubt because I was in a bad mood. We went in the ring, I forgot my number, run to the car got the number. Went in the ring and as the judge said to me are you ready (I didnt answer yet) my mobile rang I forgot to switch it off as being one of the organisers I had it on all the time. So I pulled out the phone out of the pocket and just threw it outside the ring, said to the judge - yes Im ready now. In the process of throwing the phone I must have answered it, so I could hear the person yelling - hello helllooooo. One of my friends picked up the phone and told the person to call later. Divani was lagging and unhappy and on the come didnt move at all. I got the sh*ts and didnt wait for the judge to tell me to issue the other command and just yelled come twice more. Needless to say we failed
  12. Getting Furia slimmer.... I must start stand for exam
  13. exactly They had fun, so did the people, it was great show for the spectators
  14. That 7 months old pup was in the trial? I dont think so, the pics are from the trial not training sessions. Never mind, maybe it was a regripp, maybe a shellow bite this time maybe something, the dogs were VERY good overall and biting a suit is not like biting the sleave that has the wide tube inside it.

In Polish Artur :p His comands were Noga - heel Siad - sit Fuj - out (yuck) Bierz go - get him and Dobry Pies - he was saying it ALL the time It was just so home like, I think next dog I will train in Polish. Mind you Furia has some comands in Polish and majority of every day stuff at home they understand in Polish. As I said my dogs are bilingual Now I throw my dogs into the car forcefully yelling TRUCK and then I say Dobry Pies. :p Rediculous, need to hang around with some people that I normally train with and get back to normality
