  1. Obiedience trial is a form of comeptition where the dog is required to perform certain sets of excercises in order to get a pass. 3 passes in a certain category and the dog earns the title. These are the CD, CDX, UD etc titles. For a CD the dog must do (in a very short description) a heel free in varius paces, with a sit, drop, stand. A recall off lead, a sit and a drop stay for max 3 miutes in presence of other dogs 1m away, a stand for exam, a change of position at the distance (stand to a drop) or a retrieve on flat. Are you now interested Kisma? :D
  2. sasjeep - that is great news. Will you continue to go to that club on regular basis? I was actually talking to a friend about taht club last night, how far is it for us to travel?
  3. I belive that if the dog is neutralised to EVERYTHING its possible to get a recall with only positive methods. That would mean that a dog treats everything and anything as a park bench, have no value assigned to anything other than the handler. And Id say that when it comes to pets there arent many dogs like that. More info on neutralisation http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?...c=43479&hl=
  4. what happens when the dog isnt food motivated? We arent talking about a trail recall here, this is relativelly easy to train where calling the hound of running rabbit isnt. Where I agree with you about consistency and timing I cant really see a reason for not mixing the two. Id like to hear why do you think it cant be mixed? My older dog used to score 20/20 in a tial, where outside the trial I would say he had a pretty poor recall. SARDOG said - "We stock proof our pups with the negative value attached"
  5. I have got the breed first and than discovered few extra sports. Im totally hooked on dobes, they might not be the best in all sorts of sports but can participate in many.
  6. Excellent Rachelle, well done, keep in touch and inform on further progress.
  7. I think Im guilty of being one of the stressors than.......... I usually take white class. On occasion I beg to take the top class If you want Ill meet you in the park during the holidays, pm my your number and occasionally couple of us meet the for some training over the holidays. I can ask Trish to open the shed to get some gear out as well if we will want that as well. Dont be shy.....
  8. That's not quite correct I am a recently joined member of your club and I am very interested in trialling. I am very new and haven't been asked... not that I would expect to be at the level that I'm at. :D ;) ;) Are you te lady with the hairy hound that I spoke to weeks ago to? Have I had you in class? I pretty much ask every student that I get, right from the beginning. I used to get this feeling as well, even now if I went to a new club Id get this feeling. I guess it comes from few factors. People that are interested in trialling are members of the club for a while and know each other, hence chat after class giving an apperance of the clique. Second - their dogs are usually better behaved than others. Third - the mystic of trialling - if someones dog pulls on lead like mad and they have been shown 3-4 times on how to fix it and 4 months later the dog still pulls that person has a looooong way to go before they can trial, whats the point of introducing the person to a figure of eight and expaling how to lead out of it? Do you know what I mean? Forth - once someone actually knows a bit about some training methods they might start to disagree with methods used by others hence creating some conflicts between people. As I said - I personally ask all my students, dont know if other instructors do, half of our instructors arent interested in trialling themselves, so I doubt they ask. We had a young girl with a dally bitch. the dog was fantastic, so was the owner. She did everything I told her (I had her from the start and happend to get her in class every week) and she progressed through classes like no other. I asked her, well I almost begged her to continue, she got to the second last class and stoped coming, told me she is very happy wiht what she has achieved and doesnt want any more. I guess this is one happy cutomer, I just wish she continued as they both had potential to do well. you tell me, dobe club certainly doesnt train............ for anything in fact Schutzhund - no tracking - no idea, never been to one agility - often they are together with an ob club, but when pure agility club I dont think they do basic ob classes for the public. Pls correct me someone if Im wrong, and Im talking about clubs in Sydney
  9. CDX Rusky Erika with Jazz is from Perth. Dogs pedigree name and titles are displayed in the video description.
  10. I can accomodate by showing a really good one (IMHO). Not a boxer but in Australia.
  11. Me too Freya ;) I wont be able to go. However I did speak to a Polish lady with a dobie that does heaps of agility and she agreed to point me in the right direction, being a novice and all. You are welcome to join me when I see her.
  12. That is exactly what Im trying to say. Kavik - 20-30 peopel are members of that club? I had an impression that its a large club with lots of students. Or are you counting only the "hard core" regulars, instructors etc?
  13. At my club we have an A frame, couple of jumps and a tunnel. We do take students over the obsticles. We on occasion even make a whole class out of it. Should I call my club an agility club???? I dont think so....... Or are you saying K9 that your "detailed" description of the clubs with no sucesses in tirals indicate that they are actually dog training clubs and the little side thing they do is trialing? And would that be that the dog training clubs that have the trialing NOT as the main focus are getting or not getting any passes, simply becouse it isnt their main goal? Becouse if this is what you now indicate - that agrees with what I originally said that the clubs dont focus on the trials. Read what I wrote not what you though I did. Kavik how many people are members of your club? And how many people are interested in trialing and how many are training to trial in the future? Id say that there are about 100 active, attending members at my club and there might be 4 max that are interested in trialing their dogs. So should I call my club a trialing club???? If I take K9s "detailed description" I guess I should. Well than we are one of those trialing clubs that got 3 passes this year. 2 UD (GR and a GSD) and one CDX (another GR). And the dogs belong to the instructors not students. There isnt one student that is interested in trialing.......... Not at all, quite the contrary..... Im saying that there are hardly ANY clubs in Sydney that are teaching trial steps, and as this thread shows I cant see a huge list of those that do, that focus on trials, that encourage people to compete.
  14. Dobe Club - no Rottie Club - no GSD League - not really lead me on more - pm is fine
  15. and I belive this is one of the purposes of any forum. Glad to be able to participate even if its in a small way. I also know that I preffer to use the motivational method or would use the clicker method before Id try forcing.
  16. page 2 post 21 4.34pm indicates that trialling clubs exists "many trialling clubs " Are there any in Australia? if there are none in Sydney.
  17. good that we do something right 100 trialists with 20 passes v's no trialists
  18. Spin off from another thread. In the forced retrieve thread K9 (post #21) mentiones that there are TRIALLING clubs in Sydney. Id like to know which clubs in Sydney specialise in obiedience trials. I have been/am a member of 4 dog training clubs with two being large (Sutherland and Centennial Park) where there is few people trailing their dogs, but the aim of the club isnt for the members to trail but for the general public to be able to bring up their family pets correctly. Which clubs in Sydney have members trialing their dogs as the MAIN FOCUS? As Id like to trial in the future Id like to go to the club that focuses on trialling, but dont know of any.
  19. K9s description - this is how basic retrieve is tought at my club. I will add that the club doesnt focus on trialling AT ALL.
  20. Can you pls provide examples of few in Sydney that are focused on trials as their main aim? Ob trialing that is.
  21. Most of the dog training clubs are not focused on trailling........
  22. those that rushed their dog to the vet becouse of the lumps maybe one day you can ask someoen to observe a mating. Well that is a scary thing especially after its all over and the little pinky your male has turns into an elephant size monstrocity you have noidea existed.
  23. As I dont have any experience in either I cant say what I preffer. But obviously using of any type of force isnt my preference. What I would like to know is if someone has one dog and wants to do a competition obidience and the dog wont retrieve through drive than what? Get rid of the dog? Forget about competing of move over to plan B of the forced retrieve? What do people do?
