  1. Bolognaise mince, past mixed with dry food. My dog swollows, not much chewing
  2. Maybe he gets endorsements from pet brands that Pet shops sell so he can’t be bagging Pet shops.
  3. Well the agreement/contract should state that if the dog becomes Incontinent because of desexing the breeder will help in some way. What happens when a heredity issue arises in a pup that you have sold? How is that dealt with? Or is the new owner left to deal with an abnormal condition hereditary illness or incontinence caused by the breeders desexing on their own? I’m not a breeder and have never adopted a pup/dog with an agreement/ contract so I don’t know if these things would commonly be part of an agreement I would imagine that they are.
  4. Yes I understand but I also think about that poor puppy that gets sent to the pound because it can't hold it's wee wee.
  5. I don't agree with this. I ask about price because I can't afford to spend $3000. There is no point wasting a breeder or my time when I can't afford what they're selling. I love my dogs very much, and while I'm not a perfect owner they are fed a good balance of raw and premium, they are walked twice a day, they are obedience trained and do agility for fun. I am, compared to many owners I see, a good dog owner. My dogs are well behaved and content. I think that when there are set "rules" and people get rejected for asking the "wrong" question to early on then good homes get passed up. I think you need to spend time talking to potential homes and getting to know them, rather than dismissing people early on. Fair enough. I understand. But I have gotten emails that JUST say "how much" and leave it at. That just strikes me as odd. There was a big debate about this a while ago. I got my head chewed off for saying people just asking "how much" got put at the bottom of my list. Yes, this does seem like a very touchy subject doesnt? But I am also desexing pups at 8weeks which a lot of people dont approve of so I will tread water and gather input. Yes, the people who have JUST asked me how much are put on the bottom of my list but I will give them a chance to redeem themselves. I think puppy buyers SHOULD shop around but they should also ask to see what they are paying for. If I added in the desexing price to my total price then my pups would be above average and people may write them off without every asking about them. If they dont want to put enough effort into scanning me then I dont feel I should make them a main priority. I think that it's just the culture in Australia that people just pay for whatever the asking price is. If one loaf of bread costs $4.00, if they have the money then thats what they pay (sometimes even if they think it's too much) . Where in for one example Argentina no one would buy it even if they could afford it, because they see it as getting ripped off, It will just sit there for a few days and then the shop brings the price down and the bread sells out. Maybe in the US if you did include the price of desexing + $800 people may get put off. I don't know if in the US they have that mind set. Good luck you sound like you really love your dogs and Yes I have noticed the prices of "some" US well breed dogs compared to the once here, US seams less expensive. Tempted to buy overseas only that bringing it over here would cost equal or more than a dog from here.
  6. I think thats possibly true. When I was tweleve I asked my parents for a "Lassie" I found out it was called Collie (rough) So I looked in a few newspapers and there it was a Collie breeder, so we called and went on the weekend and I chose a pup and brought it home that same day. We didn't do any research we didn't know we had to. Yes and I had to pick the one with the one testical (on main rego too) I remember it was a blue paper. My sister and I send it in with my details & money order for 10 dollars but it must have gotten lost in the mail or we did something wrong, never got anything back. He was a great dog anyway and we loved him so much. He lived to age 8 years.
  7. I got one dog from a registed breeder many years ago (ad in the newspaper I didn’t know any better). I didn’t do any research, only bought a book about the breed) to cut the story short she was a nightmare to toilet train. I think she must have been kept in a kennel since she was born, no instincts at all. I think most people just look in the newspaper to find a fur friend or some go to the pet shop. I never bought from a pet shop because I was so afraid they would be a nightmare to toilet train after the experience with this dog. I had also heard that Pet shop dogs are sometimes sick. I also think that the average person thinks that someone that calls themselves a “registed breeder” can be trusted, because they are registed and they show their dogs, wow they must be experts. After joining Dool I have learnt so much more, this is such a great site. So when we are ready, if we don’t opt for a rescue doggy then I will definitely be very careful and do a lot of research and ask lots of questions when I purchase from a register breeder.
  8. Thank you for asking this question. Now I know what a Koolie is.
  9. Yes I have heard similar in regards to killing cats. I was told they use to kill feral cats sometimes by puting them in a sack with bricks in side and throwing them in the river. I don't know how anyone can do this but I guess like my last post it might be that they are desensitized to the act because they have done it so many times (I honestly don't have a clue how they could do this) to save their own livestock from being killed by the feral cats. It's sick and very sad but thats what they use to do.
  10. I also just watched the video. it's so sad that someone can have such a disregard for life. (I almost wish I hadn't watched it,it's sickening). I wonder if she had been exposed to disregard for life through her own family. Her own family might have told her to get rid off the pups. You never know she might have done this so many times. (I feel sick even writing all this) but it's possible that she is so desensitize. Just like in the old days when people would go send a family member to go kill and prepare a chicken for dinner. I know killing a chicken for the purpose of eating is different. I wouldn't even be able to kill a chicken to eat it, the thought sickens me even just writing this sickens me. Throwing pups and killing them is not normal to us and a sick and disturbing act but sadly, to her it may be something that she is use to. Even if this is the case, she should be punished for the cruel act.
  11. Rescue and foster people are angles that do amazing work. Thank you
  12. It's definitely not wrong. But just a warning, my girl acts like an absolute idiot when we come home from work too, even though she has our boy as company. Sometimes she wags her bum so hard she falls over She launches herself at the gate, makes noises like she's dying and we joke that she seems like her head is going to explode...
  13. I feel somewhat humbled and respect/reverence as you disclose your passion and great love for the great work you have chosen to pursue. It appears that being an ethical/reputable breeder is a lifestyle and for some a life’s quest. It’s beautiful to see people that are honourably and lovingly trying to maintain/better dog breeds for future generations. Not that this may mean much as you don’t know me but I want to say …..Thank you.
  14. Got nothin and to Silversails After reading your posts I have a smile, you guys really just love your dogs/breeds. It's really nice to see how much you care and that you have something that you love so much. I am speechless. Thank you. Edited to correct my lousy spelling.
  15. dancinbcs - Your Post has given me a little glimps on my questions. See the thread that I read really sounded so gloomy I couldn't quite understand why someone would be a breeder. I can almost feel through this post your love and commitment for what you do. Thank you for your response.
  16. What are the good things about breeding? What satisfaction is there in breeding? I was reading a thread in the Breeders Section called -Cost of Breeding? Almost every response mentioned the doom and gloom including the high cost of breeding. They really made it sound like a huge burden. There must be something good, why would you do it? Many also mentioned time off from work to care for their dogs. Am I right in my assumption that most breeders would have to be somewhat well off in the first place so they can afford to put their jobs at risk to care for litters when things go wrong? Otherwise why would you do this? (It just sounded like a lot of things go wrong a lot of the time). What are the good things about breeding? What satisfaction is there in being a breeder?
  17. Wow ! loved it, that dog loves his friends so much. Made for a fantastic start to my day. Thank you.
  18. Not necessarily although this can be the case. Whilst I would say that many/most breeders whelp their puppies inside, there are a large number of those who then remove the puppies from the home environment into a kennel environment as soon as they can, meaning that they miss out on a lot of the subtle early cues to toilet training that a breeder can give the little ones. Dogs in kennels tend to be less choosy about where they toilet. You do get some who like to toilet in the same area instinctively of course, but most will just go where they happen to be at the time and I have found that puppies from kennel settings, whose parents are kennel dogs, whose parents are kennel dogs (etc) are very much the same no matter how they are reared. I really think you might be right with this. From my experience as a pet owner (i'm not a breeder/show person) the only dog I had major problems toilet training was the one that came from a registed/show breeder that didn't seem to keep her dogs inside. We didn't even see where she kept them, they were brought in for us to see. Back then I didn't know any better I should have asked to see where they live. The other dogs we've had came from breeders that kept their pups and adult dogs indoors in their home, such a big difference with toilet training these dogs. I think the pups learn from the toilet trained parents in the home.
  19. I asked for a rough Collie for my 12th birthday and I got one, he was the best friend a child could have.
  20. Maybe you could plant grass on an ex-large flat container, just a thought.
  21. Agree. Also you could buy some dvds or books on dog training.
  22. I agree with this. The other thing is don't let him watch you cleaning up the mess after he makes it. Put him away in his crate so he doesn't see you cleaning. Like a baby that chucks his spoon just to watch you pick it up again. Also I found giving the pup only a small area for him to run free (say the kitchen) but you still need to watch him like a hawk. I think picking him up and taking him to the peepee spot outside works better than calling or walking him through the house to the yard to the pee pee spot.(this to prevents him peeing while walking through the house). I also use to take my dog out every 20 or so mins before the pee pee time just to give her the oppertunity to do it where I wanted her to do it then praised her alot for doing the right thing. be consistant stick with it and he should be right.
