  1. Nah, whelping box hasn't been pulled out yet - that'll be this weekend :)
  2. I love the look on her face in the balloon photo - it's so Nova :) MY balloon, NOT sharing!
  3. Nova today at 7 weeks :) Plus her with her balloon - she loves balloons, but gets confused when they suddenly disappear :p
  4. Nova is 7 weeks today :) Plus her with her balloon - she loves balloons, but gets confused when they suddenly disappear :p
  5. Awww - Nyx is such a sweetie! Hope Beth settles a bit today :)
  6. 7!? Is that unusually large for a small breed? Wow, Beth - you must have been so full, darling! Glad to hear that they've arrived and all are healthy
  7. Yay! That puts her at the beginning of the normal whelping range! Hopefully she can hang on for a few more days, bel, and you have lovely, healthy wrigglers and a happy mumma dog at the end of the week
  8. Get ready for the last 2 weeks - she will get bigger by the day! Most of the puppy size growth is in the last 10 days, so you will be surprised just how much bigger she will get by the time she whelps :) I think most breeders still experience the fear mixed with the excitement as it gets closer :) We've been breeding for over 20 years, and I still get more and more nervous leading up the to event. Mind you, we tend to only have a litter once every 2 - 4 years, so each litter I feel like a newbie again!
  9. Hahah love the stink-eye look in the first photo! Yes, I think a few as well :) Here's Nova's tummy last night at day 46, and her silly face because it's not right to just post a photo of her headless body :) bel - how's Beth? And how's Nyx going too, indigirl? I just realised that Beth and Nyx are due due on the same day, and Leia and Nova due only a day apart!
  10. I can't recall any of our girls ever showing awareness of puppy movement - apart from the odd jump when one kicks really hard  However ..... I've seen plenty of exasperated look on faces as I get them to roll over so that I can feel puppies.... Repeatedly! I'm sure that our girls get so sick of me that they start to internally roll their eyes when they see me approach :p I think they end up whelping just to get me off of their backs!
  11. Dodgy iPhone photo of Nova taken last night :) This was during her regular session of lying on her back with her head in my lap looking like a beached whale! Will take some proper fatty photos in a few days. Started feeling movement last night - got very clearly kicked by someone :D
  12. Ahhhh, nothing like the sound of boobies flapping in the wind, hey grumpette! Bliss certainly had one of the most impressive sets that I've seen!
  13. Lookit Nyx! Nice little belly she has there! That sounds positive, bel :) Hang in there Beth! We weighed Nova on our scales on Tuesday.... 48.2kg, which was a 2.9kg increase in a week, and an overall 10kg increase from her pre-mating weight! She looks like she's a bitch at 7 weeks, not 6 weeks.... and getting bigger by the day, it seems!
  14. So day 53 for Beth today? Every day is one day closer! Still thinking of you and Beth and crossing everything that can be crossed
  15. Noooo, the rule of thumb is around 1kg per puppy - Enya gained 1.18kg per puppy, and Feonix gained 1.14kg per puppy :) 500 grams weight gain per puppy would be awfully tiny puppies! Don't forget, you have to take into account the placenta, etc, as well as the puppy, and the puppies weigh around 350 - 500 grams on their own :)
  16. 23rd of September :) I count ourselves very lucky that we've never had a bitch go picky with food while pregnant (touching wood while I say that!) - I think that would drive me mad!
  17. There isn't really a set allowance as such - it just is what it is :) She's not fat, still able to easily feel ribs, just carrying quite a few little wrigglies in there, I think! :)
  18. The funny thing is, I look back through my whelping record book, and my first bitch - 20 something years ago had 3 litters, 9, 9 and 12 - and I don't even remember the 12 one! Yes, all that poop.....
  19. Oh dear.... We have been weighing Nova every week since the beginning of week 3 - as I have done previously with Feonix and Enya before her - I'm a bit of a data nerd Nova has gained another 2.9kg in the past week, she is now 48.2kg - around 10kg more than she weighed when she was mated. 3 weeks to go.... this could be interesting.....
  20. How's Beth going today, bel? Thinking of you and hoping all is well Good to hear that Lei's appetite is back, eschlachter :D indigirl - how's Nyx doing? You're getting close now! Took Nova in for a pre-whelp checkup today - I actually just wanted to get a syringe of oxytocin to have on hand, but it was a good excuse to have a general chat with the vet and have him look her over. Wasn't planning to do an ultrasound, but he wanted to do one just to make sure (although it's pretty apparent now just on her size!) - I think he just likes using his ultrasound machine :p He had a quick look at one side and found 4 very quickly, we didn't look any further than that as we weren't counting - he just wanted to make sure there were live puppies kicking around in there :D Weigh in and 6 week photos tomorrow! She weighed in at just over 47kg at the vet, but I'll still weigh her tomorrow on our scales for consistency :)
