  1. info from WIKI Louisiana Catahoula leopard dog is an American dog breed. but i have seem them being bred in Aust nrth QLD for pigging It is named after Catahoula Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States. The Catahoula is believed to have occupied North America the longest, aside from the dogs descended from Native American-created breeds. The breed is sometimes referred to as the "Catahoula Hound" or "Catahoula Leopard Hound", although it is not a true hound, but a cur. It is also called the "Catahoula Hog Dog", reflecting its traditional use in hunting wild boar. History: One theory as to the origins of the breed states that the Catahoula is thought to have descended from molossers (masitff type) and greyhounds, brought to Louisiana by Hernando de Soto in the 16th century. Dogs left behind by the explorer's party were interbred by the local natives with their domestic dogs. During the early 1900s, Teddy Roosevelt used the Catahoula when hunting. Louisiana Governor Earl K. Long had an interest in the breed and collected them. This interest was recognized by an annual competition known as Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials. Catahoulas with black coats will appear with patches of blue or gray. Likewise, Catahoulas with red and brown coats will appear with lighter patches of red or liver. This occurrence is referred to as a leopard (merle) colored dog. The merle gene does not normally affect the entire coat of the dog, but dilutes the color only in areas that are randomly selected by the gene. White coats are visually unaffected. Coat: Catahoula leopards have a single, short, dense coat in a variety of colors though the colors are mostly black, grey and white. Colors:These dogs are actually solid colored dogs that have been affected by the merle gene which dilutes a normally dark coat. This merle gene combines with solid colors to create merle patterns in patches of white and colored hairs intermingled with patches of solid colors. Black: These are leopards least affected by the merle gene but will display smaller patches of blue or gray. Gray: Gray leopards are black where the coat has been diluted to appear gray. Tri-color: Catahoulas with three distinct visible colors usually white, black, and gray. Quad-color: These are Catahoulas with the varying body colorations and trim colors that help to designate the number of colors present on the dogs. Gray Catahoulas may be considered a Quad-color when White and Tan trim are included. This dog would display Black, Gray, White, usually around the neck, face, feet and tail, and Tan, which may also appear around the face and feet. Most Five colored dogs are actually misnamed Quad-colored dogs.[14] Patchwork: These Catahoulas are predominantly white dogs with small amounts of solid and/or merle patches appearing throughout the coat. The colored patches may be black, or brown. Dilution may affect those colored patches and produce gray, blue, red, or liver coloration within them.[15] IMG: from google puppy:
  2. looks like shepherd in a way but my first thoughs larger ears to meet the proportion of the long muzzle, and maybe a slightly larger head size to fit muzzle. google photo's of shepherd to give you a better variety of the black shepherd. yes x10 better than what i could do so hat off to you !
  3. i am thinking a wei too enough energy for the B/C eager to please low shed, but not overly dependant on exercise.
  4. deffinately depends on the breed a basic guideline for my breed is up to 12m they go up, from 12 months they go wide ahaha, but every dog is different when they are young they could have a large growth spurt then stop for a while then go again.
  5. you think we would keep one lead and one collar per dog until it broke then we would go buy a new one so we wouldn't have to give there gear so much space! haha Can't say i am one of those people i have multiple, multiple leads, collars and training gear and treats and foods and grooming stuff folders and toys cannot forget about those. Most of the dog's grooming gear lives in my laundry in a basket on a shelf or outside on the bbq that we never use in storage tin and seporate bags, if i can be bothered to hang leads and collars they are usually found in our laundry on hooks, or in my car of never ending dog gear and poop bags haha.
  6. my dog had mites around her eyes, the vet told us to use revolution and it worked extreamly well after one-two applications to clear it all up he hasn't had mites since 4 years later still free
  7. i am not the one paying for the vet bill so it really isn't my choice to go to another vet that probably wouldn't support rescue costs and would cost a lot more money. as much as i would like too but you never know. The pro plan he is on is sensitive skin and stomach and 2x as good as the other proplan i feel in comparrison. he is going back to the vets this week i just want it sorted so hopefully i will get a answer to what is making his skin itch, he just seems like the food isn't enough to keep him full (which i believe) i want him to be on puppy and raw. little bamboosled as to why he is on this kibble maybe it is to get a neutral ground to see if it was another food item causing him to itch, he is still itching/nibbling but no where near as bad so i really just want some scraping and tests done that can sorted asap. thanks for your input will keep you updated.
  8. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.. please keep your piccy's going of your delightful pups and travels !
  9. i am late for week 16 due to easter so week 16/52 for macca Intense thinking..! week 17/52 throwtheball,throwtheball....
  10. i once was in the position of your dog i feel ..read on haha i was at my aunty's farm when i was young and little playing with my younger cousin, they happened to have many GP's young and old big and small. We got one biggie out, sat on the ground and put our feet together to make a diamond shape let it run around corner to corner fedd it some carrot and then started to pass the GP to each other on the ground and by air gently (we thought) at the time we thought we where playing and having fun with the GP , well it went limp and it's eye's turned red..you can guess what happened. we didn't know at the time that what we had done caused it's death, after we told the truth of what happened we got yelled at by our parents for something we considered normal childs play. as i feel your dog has done not knowing it's own strength and drive, poor GP i deffinately know better now.
  11. i am asking the same question but vet's choice, he is only about 16 weeks old so i feel he needs fatty acids that he isn't getting enough of.
  12. my foster pup is on a special kibble well it isn't very special but he is on it to see if he has food allergies. so he has been to the vets and tests are still running etc but he is looking like he needs some fattening up .. all i want to know is there anything that is natural that i could possible feed him to put some weight on that won't affect seeing if he has allergies, as he is on adult fish kibble sensitive skin and stomach and needs more than that he does get a 3 meals a day but too much food for this gooble guts isn't good all at one time. any ideals??
  13. I agree, i am a regular at one particular cafe without my dogs, and when given the chance i take 1/4 of my dogs to a darby street cafe on a regular basis, i go to the same place everytime with them. And more often than not there are the regular dogs that go there, one even has a RIP tag drilled into the steps out the front as it was a regular going there, they are always outside near the road seating, laying down not shitting or peeing as they have manners they aren't on the table on laps in my food or near anyone near me while i have my coffee, to me i don't have a problem with well behaved dogs with their responsible owners at a cafe/restaurant. It is the dogs that are tied up and left to wait out the front on the street i would have a problem with as they are left unattended, most likely to bark and not settle down. And if you knew your dog would not behave themselves while you had a coffee you would look stupid bringing them. ETA: if you don't like the well behaved dogs laying down doing nothing while you eat drink, move inside and don't look at them because chances are they couldn't care less while they chill. but if it is a turd of a dog tell the wait staff i am sure they could ask the owners to settle there dog or to leave etc..
  14. Remember that they need nails for grip - no grip & they can ruin their paw pads. For me, the ideal is not touching the floor when standing up, but makes tickety tick sound when walking ;) The exception is dew claws - these are cut as short as possible. Cutting the quick looks worse than it actually is. Yes there's a lot of blood but you can staunch it (styptic). Other than licking the nail, I've never seen a dog behaves differently when the quick's cut accidentally. the face hair may take a while and you will probably see small scaring, my dog in my display pic he got a cut just under his eye ball, he is black so it was quite noticeable flesh wound after it had cleared up but the hair has grown back but you can still notice a minimal scar.
  15. 15/52 another week effort i just don't have the patience from last week and the following with four dogs running about. being spoilt with new toys as he has been extreamly good with his behaviour proud mum moment
  16. i know what country folk are like, and the working dogs earn there place the fact of this situation it was done in the public eye the killing. If he didn't want the dogs there were deffinatley other options available. To me he is another back yard breeder which i know a lot of counrty people are he shouldn't have had the pups in the first place without having homes available first. if he wanted a pup out of the litter he should have got one from a reputable breeder with proven working lines. This puppy was about to be drowned in public because he didn't want to take it back with him, what a pedi excuse, not because it didn't work because he was to lazy to deal with it the humain way. any rescue that takes on a working breed or dog with working lines that are known are carefully rehomed, all working dogs i have had in my care were not going to be going to any old home i thoroughly examined each person and there qualities much like any breeder to find the best home they possible can for there breed. it is just like that saying if you cannot afford the dog or the vet bills why have one.
  17. my cousin uses that on his staffy who has bad skin allergies works really well on her coat she looks like a nice clean healthy coat now after hair loss. My girl has a flea allergy too when bitten, i will use Quitich as a bath which will kill the bacteria if any on her skin as she is a mad chewer when bitten then like betadine to dab it on the areas which are affected then rinse them off after 3 days then re-apply works a treat for her and her she stoped chewing and her coat comes back quickly she doesn't come out looking yellow with her black coat which is a bonus. Malaseb also another good product
  18. i forgot to get a piccy of Macca for my 14/52 as i have had two adults and two puppies romping madly so in the mean time i will post ruby who i took a picy of this week as i am baby sitting her then add/change it to macca ETA that second photo of lotus is stunning ! and macca 14/52 here bad snap shot on his new bed with the ripped up handtowel he is happy though.
  19. must be a miricle because adults do that to my dogs not just the kiddies, my pair don't look like they are friendly to humans (which they are) because of there colouring is dark it doesn't even stop the adults but i just tell people they are not friendly if they come walking towards me, if they ask to pat my dog/s i allow them becasue they simply to that 5 seconds to ask me.
  20. he is respondling to NO gentle, he backs of from biting then mouth's her instead.
  21. yes because rescue and myself made this horrific story up.. and anyone who would make up such a thing it would be just as selfish, and cruel. The whole point of this is to find out as much information and to raise awearness that animal cruelty is happening right infront of us and atleast get some information on why somebody would do such a cold hearted thing. With little or no information i don't think i will actually find this person so it wouldn't be a "witchhunt" but i can at least try to get some info, and with the lady who won't talk to anybody or carry further on it would be difficult to get the police involved if she won't help - she is intitled to that if she fears for her safety or if she attends regulary to these sale yards, but it just doesn't register that she wouldn't call the cops on such a horrific act to kill innocent animals which would have been the right thing to do after she got the pup or at least taken his rego down if he is from tamworth there is not much chance he would be down here often.. I Don't mean to sound rude and i sure wouldn't be posting stories like thisif i didn't think it was true and i know rescue wouldn't lie about such a act..
  22. office ? i don't even know which sale yards but all i can think of is a hunter valley area in NSW where they would maybe have horses aswell..
