Many, if not most of us feed our dogs twice a day.
-
I'm quite aware of that. Pockets said the vet she consulted was an hour away on the other side of town. I was simply bringing to her attention that a specialist was available in Essendon which is much closer to her in case she needs further consultation with a specialist Dermatologist. It is the brothers dog and he might not live in Werribee. You have a point there, we don't know where the brother lives. Melb. Vet Specialist have practices on both sides of town, maybe that will be helpful.

Pockets, there is a Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre in Essendon. You'll find they have a specialist Dermatologist there. I note you're in Werribee. Are there no Dermatoligist vets at the Werribee teaching hospital?

Why are we now focusing on whether or not the dog owner is unemployed, partnered, eligible for Legal Aid etc.,? That's not our business. The Council's business is to assess if she has the ability and sense to keep her DA dogs strictly contained to her own property or if they need to declare them as Dangerous Dogs. If she is not smart enough and dedicated enough to keep her dogs contained (in the opinion of the Council) then the dogs should be euthanised because this is very likely to happen next time someone inadvertently leaves her front gate open. These dogs should not have had access to the front gate. Together with the fines she has already incurred she should pay any further vet costs for HazyWals dogs and her medical costs if any. The suggestion of a Dangerous Dogs sign on the fence is a good idea. Surely the Council could manage to convince the dog owner of these conditions...or else. The Council has a choice about whether to declare these dogs as Dangerous Dogs with all the attendant DD conditions and apparently they're not inclined to do so. I don't like the idea of euthanising dogs because of owner stupidity though I'm sure I'd feel differently if my dogs were attacked. Many on here have DA dogs but they're responsible owners who take necessary precautions. I've owned a DA dog that I took in as a stray and subsequently found the owner who didn't want him. He lived to be 15yo without having the opportunity to attack other dogs.

Have you never seen an inept handler being pulled along by a leashed dog, or in this case, two leashed dogs? edited to fix quote. Yes, it happened to me with 2 GSD's in defence drive and I couldn't restrained them easily and since then I have never walked 2 large dogs together for that reason. With knowledge of that, I tend to give 2 dog handlers greater distance on approach. In which case I don't get why you asked the above quoted question. I don't know that the dogs dragging the handler was the case in this matter was it? Whilst it may have been the case, it may also have been that the handler had them by the collar and the jogger was so close to the dogs the handler was unable to prevent contact which makes a difference as to who's at fault. I imagine we are of the opinion that the dogs were on lead because the report stated they were on lead. It did not state the handler was holding the dogs by their collars. That idea has come right out of left field. If the dogs were on lead as reported we can probably safely presume the handler was holding the other end of the leads. Are you attempting to blame the victim for this attack? If so, why?

OK but I assure you I have no interest in the assistance of any 'whisperer'.

Talk about draging up a 2 year old post..why? If Shyfig had this guy in West Melboure coming to his/her place on the following Monday and Tuesday then that would be quite a trip for the 'whisperer' considering he is in West Melbourne and shyfig is in NSW. In addition DOGPERSON, from your post it's impossible to work out if you're quoting someone else or offering your own opinion unless you indicate which is which.

If you've decided on a raw diet why cook the kangaroo mince? You can feed the roo raw and blend the vegies to a pulp or steam them and mix with the raw mince. There's no need to feed rice on a daily basis. Rice is basically a filler and there's very little nutrition in it for your dog. I'd say to ditch the rice and just feed the mince and vegies. You can feed, lean beef, lamb or chicken mince. I you wish to feed a home cooked diet it's best to research a nutritious cooked diet. Same goes if you wish to feed a raw diet. I used to make up my dogs raw BARF diet but now I buy the already prepared frozen BARF. It's much easier and makes a heap less mess in my kitchen. The dogs are doing well on it. Edited to add. I can no longer give my dogs the raw meaty bones that kept their teeth so clean. My Cavs are considered to be elderly now. They are 10yo and 9yo and the older dog needed to be anaesthetised last year to flush out an impaction of cruchned up bone that he was unable to pass. That sadly, was the end of the RM bones.

Even though this woman has (predictably) reneged on her agreement to cover all vet bills, the fact that she has already paid the first bill indicates she acknowledges her guilt in the matter. Surely, irrespective of who pays what, the woman has broken the Council laws in respect of keeping the dogs secured on her property. In addition there are laws about dog attacks of humans or other dogs. Do I understand correctly that if you take legal action to recover the money paid in vet fees and your medical fees the council will do nothing about this dog attack? The recovery of money is a separate issue to the dogs being at large and attacking and injuring other dogs. This womans dogs were able to get out of her property and they attacked and caused serious injury to other dogs and injury to a human but the Council will not declare the dogs as menacing or dangerous? What a toothless tiger this Council is. You don't need this crap when you're suffering shock from the attack, your own injuries and your dog just out of surgery. Since she's thrown down the gauntlet by refusing to pay further bills then I say go for it. Sue her for the money and for pain and suffering.

Can I Administer Half A Tablet
cavNrott replied to twodoggies2001's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to divide the dose of Sentinel when it was in tablet form but not now that it's in chew form. Evidently the drug is not evenly dispersed in the chews as it was in the tablets. twodoggies: I doubt you want to divide the Capstar as it's not expensive. I would get onto the Capstar right away. Don't give the fleas a chance to drop eggs in your carpet that will continue to hatch. Kill 'em off now before they cause you trouble. Supermarkets carry Capstar, if you don't have any on hand. -
HazyWal, you should consider being checked over by a doctor to ensure you are ok. I hope Maddie recovers well from her surgery, bless her. She couldn't have a better carer to help and care for her than you. Thank goodness Stan seems to be taking the situation in his stride. I imagine he's pretty sore with the wounds he has. The attacking dog owner has to pay all vet costs and you should get the council involved to make sure she does. In the meantime I would draw up a document stating she will take responsibility for all vet costs and have her sign it. Saying someone left the gate open is a weak excuse. Her dog should be confined to the back yard. This is an awful, awful thing to happen to you and your dogs. We hope you all recover without lasting issues.

Oh God I am so sorry this happened to you and your dogs. How terrifying. Please know we are thinking of you. Glad to hear you are going to report this horrifying attack.

It was lucky you had this removed so quickly. The pathology results were a bit of a surprise but all is well now. How is Jenna coping with the healing process?

Sandgrubber. I doubt we have any Quaker run retirement villages in Australia. We have to do the best we can with what we've got! I don't know that the lady in question wants a large dog. I thought she was interested in a small/medium size dog. BTW, Rottweilers are not classed as extra large dogs, they're just large dogs. True that it would be difficult to find a retirement village that would allow a Rottweiler :)

Kenz is lovely, ness. She does look small in the pics. Thanks for posting those very nice pics.
-
Both of my girls are pretty small too. Just measured them and they are around 45cm tall. Amber weighs 14kg. Poppy is a fatso  My males have stood around 50cm though. Could you please post a pic of your little girls. They're such a pretty breed (as well as being as smart as a whip). To show size here is one with them sitting next to their Belgian friends. The black Belgian isn't a big Belgian. Oh, they are truly gorgeous pretty dogs. Thanks for the pic. I'm off to Google the breed.

Andrea Chisholm should know the breed is not called King Charles Cavalier Spaniels. They are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I haven't clicked on the links as yet.

The cloud collar looks to be way too big for your dog. Perhaps a smaller size would be better.

Yep, this ^. Only small dogs are allowed in retirement villages. NOT NECESSARILY!!!!! Don't self-censor! Do put pressure for broader tolerance. If you believe it's true, you make it true! There are several thousand 55+ residential developments in Australia. They are not all the same. For example, I'd expect many retirement villages have had experiences with assistance dogs, and have developed tolerance of Labradors and perhaps also goldies. If a dog is proposed as a companion/service animal, eg., to provide emotional support through the transition to retirement, and the pup is sourced from a kennel that specializes in assistance dogs, I would guess many places would set aside prejudices against medium to large dogs. I too am looking at buying a self contained unit in a retirement village. My comment regarding small dogs comes as a result of my many enquiries to those who advertise units as being pet friendly. Though I have a history of spinal problems and indeed current issues with said spinal problems it is not my intention to imply my two CKCS are assistance dogs. That would be dishonest of me. I believe the lady in question is in search a companion dog. No mention is made of her needing an assistance dog/emotional support dog. It has indeed been said that the lady is fit and healthy. A large breed puppy would take time to train and pups are rambuctious until they're obedience trained. This is from personal experience with my former large breed dogs (Rottweilers). I wouldn't take the risk of body corporate or unit management informing me that I must get rid of my dog because it does not meet their pet friendly requirements. It is much safer both for dog owner/unit owner to comply with the conditions set out by the body corporate right from the start so there is no question of the dog being too large and rambunctious for a retirement village. It would be devastating for the dog owner to have to part with their dog. It would also be unfair to the dog. Why risk it?

Oh your BC is tiny. I bet she's a cute as a button. Will you please post a pic of her.
