For the person who asked about the beach, I've seen everything from Malamutes/Samoyeds/shepherds/staffies/little white fluffies and TINYTINY puppies. Most big dogs and really active ones are usually right down the end and you see a lot of the tiny ones only half way down. Only once did i have another dog bother my girl but he was in LOVE with her and stuck right to her side and wouldn't leave her alone wherever she went. She wasn't impressed and kept trying to get away but a quick word to the owner and he was on a lead. The majority of dogs are quite friendly and owners seem to stick pretty close to their dogs. More than anything i'd be more worried about the little yappy fluffies.

Shaking off water is nothing! I've seen people get peed on when they were sitting down!

Not many people road transport to Perth as there's not a huge amount of money in it. Our company has a road train going to Perth twice a week. If someone could transport her to Melbourne I could ask Ron to take her with him to Perth but I don't know if they'd do it as they are required to have two drivers on such a long haul and there's not a lot of space left for a dog. Your best bet is passing her off as a staffy x with Qantas.

It's right next to the yacht club so it's got boats in the way. She can't swim too far! Plus there's usually so many dogs around that all the want to do is play! As for the sandy part, that's all fenced in so she can't get out and wreak havoc!

http://www.examiner.com/dogs-in-national/i...dog-not-a-thing I am a dog. I am a living, breathing animal. I feel pain, joy, love, fear and pleasure. I am not a thing. If I am hit - I will bruise, I will bleed, I will break. I will feel pain. I am not a thing. I am a dog. I enjoy playtime, walk time, but more than anything, I enjoy time with my pack - my family - my people. I want nothing more than to be by the side of my human. I want to sleep where you sleep and walk where you walk. I am a dog and I feel love...I crave companionship. I enjoy the touch of a kind hand and the softness of a good bed. I want to be inside of the home with my family, not stuck on the end of a chain or alone in a kennel or fenced yard for hours on end. I was born to be a companion, not to live a life of solitude. I get too cold and I get too hot. I experience hunger and thirst. I am a living creature, not a thing. When you leave, I want to go with you. If I stay behind, I will eagerly await your return. I long for the sound of your voice. I will do most anything to please you. I live to be your treasured companion. I am a dog. My actions are not dictated by money, greed, or hatred. I do not know prejudice. I live in the moment and am ruled by love and loyalty. Do not mistake me for a mindless object. I can feel and I can think. I can experience more than physical pain, I can feel fear and joy. I can feel love and confusion. I have emotions. I understand perhaps more than you do. I am able to comprehend the words you speak to me, but you are not always able to understand me. I am a dog. I am not able to care for myself without your help. If you choose to tie me up and refuse to feed me, I will starve. If you abandon me on a rural road, I will experience fear and loneliness. I will search for you and wonder why I have been left behind. I am not a piece of property to be dumped and forgotten. If you choose to leave me at a shelter, I will be frightened and bewildered. I will watch for your return with every footfall that approaches my kennel run. I am a dog - a living, breathing creature. If you choose to take me home, please provide me with the things that I need to keep me healthy and happy. Provide me with good food, clean water, warm shelter and your love. Do not abandon me. Do not kick me. Do not dump me when your life gets too busy. Make a commitment to me for the entirety of my life, or do not take me home in the first place. If you desert me, I do not have the means to care for myself. I am at the mercy of the kindness of people - if I fall into the wrong hands, my life will be ruined. I will experience pain, fear and loneliness. If I wind up in an animal shelter, I have only my eyes to implore someone to save me, and my tail to show you that I am a friend. If that is not good enough, I will die. I am a dog. I want to give and receive love. I want to live. I am not a thing. I am not a piece of property. Please do not discard me. Please treat me with kindness, love and respect. I promise to repay you with unconditional love for as long as I live.

Mine would be. However if it happened in CW's yard, it would be difficult to see how she would legally responsible. Why is a canine's life more important than that of a domestic rodent (in terms of delivering the body to it's family and explaining what happened ?) I'm not talking about legal responsibility, I'm talking about respect for a family and their pet! The fact that these people mentioned their pet had escaped says to me they care deeply about him (the cost to replace isn't very much and it's not like they are difficult to come by!). I've had rats and they are like little puppies. Forever sweet and funny and cuddly. If this had been my rat, I would have been devastated and would want closure. The worst thing is always thinking 'what if?' and every time they go outside they would be looking for their baby, even subconsciously scanning the yard as they walk out the front door... I think the idea of going and asking the colour first is a good one. If it's the same colour then it is a good chance it's their baby. Usually rats aren't out and about in the daytime so i doubt it's a wild one.

Yours! Sorry. I used to have a dog just like your and even the same name come in from time to time!

It's not really gross but my Samoyed POUNCES on stuff. Kinda like a cat. It's so weird when you see him bounding around the backyard in chase of bugs (real or imaginary, i don't know).

I tried to reply via PM but your inbox is full! Just out of curiosity, did you get Fletcher from Kalaska Samoyeds? he looks so much like my Zac that I would bet that Fletchers dad was Alex!!! http://www.kalaska.com/PedigreeofAlex.htm My Zac:

It's on the same day as the meet up in Kepala, unfortunately I can't attend.

He's not ridiculous! He's smooshable <3 I would have come up to cuddle him!

I love the Fido's white n Bright on Zac, we don't wash him much though, we usually pay someone else to do it but on the odd occasions we have, he came up great. I've used the Fido's black shampoo on Shishka and she looks AMAZING when I use it. The coat is lovely and shiny.

I had heard of Lappies but never have seen one. If i did, i would have to ask too. They are beautiful dogs, do they have as much hair as a Samoyed? If so, I offer you my deepest sympathy right now because I know what you are going through! No black clothes at this time of year, lol!

I saw my first one last year when a customer bought one into the shop. He was so sweet and had a lovely nature.
-
I've never seen a similar cross either and there was only two in the litter so she's extra special to me.. I've always wondered where her brother is, the people who bought him lived around the bayside area of Melbourne but that's all I know. I would hope he's still alive and well.

thanks, Annette! Most people are really nice to her, and she forces pats and treats out of everyone at the beach. Mostly she just gets weird stares but a lot of those people have a smile and a pat for her so I can't fault them for it. The worst thing that I hate is being put down for her being skinny. I think she's slightly underweight but as hard as I try I can't keep weight on her. She's very healthy and you don't get an 11 year old basset or GSD in as good a condition as she is so I get defensive when people mention it.
-
This is Shishka. She's a German Shep x Basset (not sure if there's anything else in there too.) I always get snide comments about her, many people also think she's a boy even though I put pink collars on her from when she was a baby.. One day I had her at work and someone said 'What is THAT?!' in the rudest way, I almost punched her in the face for being so rude. I often get: "Shish kebab" (no, i didn't name her Shishka for that reason) "looks like a german shepherd with it's legs cut off" "You should put it down, you can't have it living in misery" "what's wrong with it's feet?" Sometimes though, I get people who really do see her beauty... and kids love her! Once people get to know her, they do see her happy side as well, it's just not as noticeable as my Samoyed's happy face.

No one has mentioned Basset Hounds! They are wonderful with kids and easy to groom.

Wow that is very committed. Every day eh? Are you looking for a dog? Or you would be doing that because ?? Yes, everyday. Reason isn't important and I would appreciate you stop hounding me. We are both on the same side here, for the dogs, and even though our opinions differ you should respect mine as I respect yours. I'm not saying I don't enjoy a healthy debate but take a second to read your posts back before you hit reply. I do not think I hound people when I ask question about something they said. So not a problem that you do not want to say why you do this, but I still find it a very interesting comment. What makes it so interesting?

I had never had the crying problem with any of my other dogs but when Zac came to us two years ago he cried and cried for two whole nights. Taking him out for toilet breaks at 4am and leaving him out resulted in a quiet puppy and (for us) some sleep. Since then he has slept outside every night, usually curled up in the middle of the yard... even when it's raining. He won't settle inside and has a different sleep cycle to us lowly humans. You might find he just wants to be outside with a non-squeaky toy...

Oh, your boy is gorgeous, dobesrock! Here's a pic of a girl I absolutely fell in love with. she came into the shop for our 'most fashionable pet' competition and was so obedient and loved every bit of attention she got...
