  1. Every year in March we go camping in Princetown, which is near Port Campbell. Dogs are welcome and allowed off leash, Maui loves it, there is a river and a beach right behind it which is great to go walking to. You basically camp around the oval, they have showers and toilet facilities, powered sites if need be. But you can camp behind bushes so your out of the way, there are lots of secluded places. AAt night this is what I do with my boy, I put glow sticks around his neck so we can see him
  2. I feed Maui Supercoat (Small breed) dry food and he loves the Aldi brand wet food
  3. Yep, I got pretty much the same reaction the OP is getting too... Boy is my face red now!! Bite me: Maui walks offlead many places that its allowed, when we go anywhere else, or along a main road, he is off course leashed then..
  4. Im in two minds at the moment... Mainly because I kind of saw myself in the OP's feet when we first got Maui. We picked him up at 7 weeks old, he is now 14 months old. He was ready to leave his littermates and was already on many different varieties of solid food. He bonded to my husband and I really well in those first few weeks. I always said he would be an outside dog, not on the bed, not on the couch, dogs belong outside.. Sigh... that didnt last and the little butthead has won my heart and now sleep on the bed most mornings (starts off on his mat on the floor)... Maui was trained to walk offlead from the very very beginning. He wont cross a road unless he is told he can, he wont even go on the road, even to chase his favourite ball, or a neighbourhood cat. Trainign him at such a young age has worked perfectly for us. But then again everyone is different. My husband had the time to put into Maui, he works from home, so was home all day with him. (and dont I know it, those two have bonded in such a cute way!!!) We also have a concrete backyard, but have one clamshell with sand in it, we have also just renovated and now Maui has his own section of real grass!!! (Will find photo and post) We also bought a section of fake grass for his to wee and poo on, which he does perfectly, he was toilet training by 3 months old..
  5. But what if your dog is a ninja who will take advantage of someone looking away??? Cheeky bugger got into my jameson that way... I was sitting on the ground with is on the floor an dlooked away for 2 seconds.. (He only got a tiny tiny bit before I stopped him!)
  6. If its your childrens safety your concerned about, please wait until they are older and understand what dogs are and how they react to certain things...
  7. If he was such a perfect dog and you got rid of him for jumping. I really thnk its best you wait until your family is older before getting another dog..... No dogs are perfect, one small bad habit and you will re-home.... Such a shame, he sounds like a perfect dog to have...
  8. I bought a couple of puppy pens from Sams Warehouse, they are tall and worked wondefully.. They have now been recycled into a vege garden barrier to stopping a certain young dog from digging up my plants! You can also join them together.
  9. Depending on where you are my work has 5 newspapers delivered daily, I can keep them for you at the end of each day? Or anyone really.. I work in the Southbank area in Melbourne.
  10. We picked up ours at 7 weeks old. I couldnt imagine getting him any later on, he bonded so much with us during the next couple of weeks and even learnt basic commands by the time he was 9 weeks (could sit, shake and beg)
  11. Made me tear up My mums beautiful dog was PTS yesterday afternoon..
  12. I give my boy buffolo ears, heaps less fat then pigs and he loves them. I pick them up from the Sth Melbourne MArkets every other week!
  13. I should not have watched that at work... Just beautful, you can se ehow much that dog loves her.
  14. Whenever we arive home Maui will run to the gate, when we open it he srpint to the couch and rebounds of the back cushion, then comes over to us. He may do that twice if he is over excited! So funny to watch .
  15. From an advertiser here I just bought a treat stocking (Gourmet Dog Biscuits) Also bought one for Mauis best mate Taylor who lives next door..
  16. At about 3am this morning, I woke up to Maui making noises, not exactly barking, but definitly "wake up mum and dad" noises... So we wake up, he is sitting at the end of the bed, he wouldnt come to us though so we turned the light on. Turns out the dork had gotten underneath the doona and in the process of getting out got his head stuck through the end of the doona cover (where it buttons up)... He couldnt move.. So in between laughing at him I undid the button and released him from captivity, he was not pleased we were laughing at him... This is the second time he has done it, once before when he was a wee pup!
  17. It was probably me over reacting but I am glad we took him. We picked my JRt Maui up yesterday afternoon from the in-laws (he was there overnight) and he looked like he had gone three rounds with Mike Tyson!!! His whole face was swollen and lumpy, it didnt seem to be bothering him though. He had just been playing at my sis-in-kaws with her Labrador (not rough though aprantly)... The poor thing just looked terrible, we drove past our usual vet and they were closed so we went up to the animal clinic (Werribee Uni), I had guessed it was probably a bee sting or allergic reaction to something, but I didnt want to take any chances on it getting worse and affecting his breathing.. So off we went, 1 hour and $180 later he had a steroid and anti-histamene shot. His face had started going down in the clinic anyway.. Better safe then sorry though.. Hes back to his normal self now, we just have to watch he has plenty of water and food (aparantly steroid shots make them super thirsty and hungry).. Phew, what a day though!
