I use Paw Paw ointment on my girls elbows to stop them getting rough. keeps the skin soft- no harm if she licks it either. Not sure anything will help with hair loss unless you can stop the rubbing

Big thumbs up for comfortis. All of my previous bullies have had allergies to flea saliva and had nasty skin reactions. No problems on comfortis for my girl now. I'm hesitant to use topical treatments on her sensitive skin.

I avoid zips & velcro- Scarlett loves them

I have had one Snooza Pet futon destroyed by my bully. I replaced it with a D1000 and she hasn't even come close to destroying it. She actually gets a sore nose from trying to bury things in it!

Dog Parks- What Is Acceptable?
Scarlett Dog replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree 100% I am not anti-kids, just think they don't belong at at dog park (just like I'd never take my dog to kid's playground). My girl LOVES children, they are very reinforcing for her (still being a puppy)- sadly in my experiences , squealing and running make it very difficult to stop her from getting over excited. I've also had kids trying to climb over her. Grrrr I know not all kids are like this. I think it's great for anyone (child or adult) to ask to pat/approach you dog. I have yet to have a good experience. -
Ouch! Puppy Teeth Sure Are Sharp Little Buggers!
Scarlett Dog replied to Nadine83's topic in Puppy Chat
my girl got me on the nose when she was about 10 weeks old. I was sitting on the ground with her. I looked like i'd been brawling or something! I have a nice scar now. Little bugger -
My girl likes balls but loves to run with other dogs more. She was pinned down by a very large at the dog park because she was running with another dog who was chasing it's ball- he thought she wanted to steal it. She had no interest at all. Since then we only go to the dog park at quiet times with friends who have well behaved dogs.

Dog Parks/rest Areas Between Brisbane And Mackay?
Scarlett Dog replied to coogie's topic in General Dog Discussion
you can always buy a long lead (5+ metres) that will give a dog room to run and stretch it's legs and any park will do- fenced or not. -
Vet-n-Pet Direct Super quick dispatch of your order. $5.95 postage or free pick up from their warehouse in Brisbane (Jimboomba). I've found them much cheaper for leads/collars etc. I have also shopped at Oz Pet Shop foy treats and toys quite a few times. I make sure my orders are large to make use of the free postage for orders over $150. again, super quick dispatch For books I use The Book Depository It's free postage and really cheap. It can take a few weeks for your order as they come from the UK, but well worth it

The QLD Times A CATTLE dog dumped in a vacant lot and left to die in a pool of blood was probably the victim of a horrible beating. So severe were the five-year-old dog's injuries that the vet who saw him knew straight away he had no choice but to put him down. The RSPCA is desperate for help to track down whoever is responsible. RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said an ambulance was called to Tivoli on Tuesday evening after a woman heard a dog yelping in pain. “On the corner of Tivoli Hill Rd and Wyndham St, ambulance officer Jo Jordan found a blue black entire male Australian cattle dog lying in a pool of blood beside a creek bed with blood coming from his mouth and penis,” Mr Beatty said. “The dog had no pain reflexes in his limbs, the pupils were pinpoint and not reacting to light. At the time of being found, the dog was wrapped in a checked sheet and had a yellow squishy toy shaped like a block with him. “The dog was brought back to the shelter and on the advice of the on-duty veterinarian was euthanized on humane grounds.” He said the area where the dog was dumped was affected by the floods and many surrounding properties were still derelict. “It appears it may have been the subject of a beating or possibly even hit by car and then someone has tried to kill the dog,” he said. “Whatever the cause it is clear that someone took the dog to that area in the blanket.” Mr Beatty said a post-mortem examination would be conducted on the dog today to determine the cause of his death. The RSPCA said that after the cause of death was established, it would want to track down the dog's attacker. Anyone with any information can call the RSPCA cruelty complaints hotline on 1300 852 188.

we took the pooch to a cardiologist, it cost just under $300 but that included some tests. We just called and asked for what would be done generally and a worst case scenario cost so we had a contingency budget.

can't guarantee we can make it so won't bother suggesting anywhere!

i have a fussy eater but we decided a while ago not to accommodate her fussiness. We worked out her issue was feeling out of a bowl. She was used to having to do something for her food from the training we were doing with her and her getting treats. We've swapped many of her treats for her actual dinner that she got during her training. We tried the same approach- she had her opportunity to eat what we offered her and if she didn't want it then that was it until tomorrow. She went 4 days without eating. It was really hard for me. I thought that she'd never eat again. Then I did a lot reading about how a dogs digestive system is used to having meals sporadically. Just remind yourself that if he/she is truly hungry they will eat what is on offer. We still have our treats like chicken wings, lamb hearts but she doesn't get these as her everyday meals. Stay strong!

we have been told to teach her what to do rather than what not to do. So we had our girl on lead until she knew she was to sit politely for a pat.

When Huga And Rocco Road Trip Together...
Scarlett Dog replied to rocco's topic in General Dog Discussion
awwww such a chunky monkey! He's beautiful. -
I worry about the same thing. On the rare occurrence my girl has gone out at night to go to the toilet I have spotted a new toads at the bottom at the garden. We have section of a park of our yard that is a bit drier than other areas and use that as our dog run. She sleeps inside in her crate at night- it makes me feel better too! I do a check before I let her out and she isn't generally out in the yard unaccompanied.

How Did You Choose Your Breed Or Breed ?
Scarlett Dog replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
I grew up with bull terriers so naturally wanted a bull terrier. I know some people think they're not very attractive dogs but I think they're beautiful. I liked having a breed that I knew what to expect as far as how active they are, any possible health issues, how much training they need. Nothing worse than hearing stories of people getting dogs that end up being more active than is ideal for their lifestyle or bigger than people expect. I always have people telling me how much work they are but we love them and are happy to put in the hard yards for a clever and loyal dog. I would recommend a BT to someone who is dedicated and has done their research. Did I mention I think they're beautiful?! -
our 8 month old used to jump on us but doesn't any more. She's getting much better with people who come over. We use the same approach as Teebs. We ask people to ignore her (no eye contact, be a tree if she comes over) until she is calm and being polite. usually within a few minutes of someone coming over she's laying at their feet. If she's being a pain and jumping it's normally because our guest isn't ignoring her (some people think if they push her down or say something she'll stop). Persistence!

Fish Based Kibble... No Chicken Or Beef?
Scarlett Dog replied to Sharna3's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
by 'hot meat' i meant some protein sources which can make inflammation worse in allergic dogs. my girl isn't allergic to the food itself but we are mindful of foods that can make her skin irritations linger. Our vet said beef and lamb are common to make allergies worse -

how does your dog go with rabbit? I try to avoid beef & lamb having a dog with sensitive skin and she gets over roo sometimes. She loves rabbit though- you can get them from most big butchers. It's her special treat -
We'll be in clicks and tricks too- we missed week 3 so will be in this Sundays. Our day just got a whole lot longer!
