Love the wombat and the last koala photo! That's lovely that you can help out with enrichment, it's pretty awesome seeing animals enjoying something you've done for them. :)

I grew up with a Golden Retriever and have a Saluki now. My nest dog will be another Saluki, but I have long been in admiration of giant breeds, particularly Leonbergers and Great Danes so they are also on my 'one day' list. I'd love another Golden Retriever at some point as well, and am also keen on Beagles... I guess I'm not entirely breed loyal, but Salukis will always be my heart breed, they're just right for my personality.

Yes, Werribbe's an open range zoo, similar to Monarto (and probably Dubbo as well).

Loving your photos, you've got some awesome shots! Your photo of Kluet the orangutan is fantastic, they can be very elusive and the sunlight around their enclosure can be very harsh so it's quite an achievement to get such a good shot. There are many species I wish he had at our zoos, it's a shame Adelaide Zoo is so small, there's not really room for any more 'big animals'. I'd love to have gorillas in SA, but I've no idea where they could possibly go! I'm glad that Adelaide Zoo is gradually moving away from housing many large animals, but unfortunately many visitors seem to be unhappy that there is 'nothing to see'. Tdierikx, I think a country-wide zoo tour is a fab idea! My favourites that I've been to are Monarto, Melbourne, Taronga and Werribee. We have lots of African painted dogs at Monarto. ;)

Hank is absolutely gorgeous, I am LOVING all these photos. Seriously making me pine for another Golden Retriever, they're just such beautiful creatures.

The safari park has a very bad reputation, they put out many 'cute' photos of interspecies 'friendships'. I'd much rather see wild animals being allowed to have healthy relationships with their own kind.
-
It can be difficult to get nice pictures when male chimps have everything all 'on show', it can distract from the photo somewhat!
-
I saw at one point what looked like Lubutu acting submissively towards Furahi, which surprised me. It looks like Lubutu has the support of most of the community though! I wonder if either Lubutu or Furahi will form alliances with other males.
-
With regards to Furahi, he's definitely got one! Chimps seem to be able to retract their penises.
-
Awesome shots! I've not yet done the Giraffe Safari, it sounds a great experience. It's probably worth visiting again when the weather's a bit cooler and the animals are more active.

I don't know if I've ever seen a more huggable-looking dog, Sumo is absolutely gorgeous. Love the photos, thanks for sharing!

When paying for a puppy from an ethical breeder, you are getting lifelong support, which I think is priceless. Should I need help (especially being new to the breed), it is good to know that I have someone that I can always ask questions, who cares about my dog. If anything were to happen to me, my dog would have someone knowledgeable and caring to go back to, which gives great peace of mind. I would never hand over my money to someone without the best interests of the dogs at heart, no matter how much of a discount it may sound like. Knowing that necessary health tests have been done and that we have the support of breed knowledgeable people is worth every penny.

Wow, AWESOME photos! I especially like those of the marmosets and tamarins, they can be tricky critters to get decent shots of!

Some awesome shots there! LOVE the one of Lubutu and friend (Shabani?)!

Photos are a bit dark, I unknowingly had it on shutter speed priority rather than aperture. I didn't notice for about an hour! It's taken a while to sort through them, but they're coming! It was absolutely wonderful to see so many keepers, volunteers and visitors out to wish her a happy birthday, and the chimps were SO excited to get so many treats. :)

'no News Is Not Always Good News.'

I'm so glad that Bruno's surgery went smoothly, especially considering the awkward location of the mass. Thinking of you, it must be difficult undergoing such an anxious wait until you know more. -
Footage of the chimps from my visit to Monarto a couple of weeks ago.

I can ID some of the Taronga apes as well if you like. :) Here are few photos from today's visit to Monarto Zoo, I tried not to take too many photos as I'll be going again on Wednesday for Zuri's first birthday celebrations. The quality's not great on most of my photos as it was a dark day and the indoor enclosure is quite dark at the best of times!
