  1. Ugh.. I must say, only 2 weeks left till I will be a QLDer again and this house hunt is driving me a little insane! Almost all packed now, but still nowhere for Huddy and I to live. Will continue the search and should have somewhere to stay temporarily.. but it is doing my head in!
  2. Thanks for the help guys! Only reason I have been looking closer to the city is that it should be easier to find a housemate, rather than convenience to work :) haha. I will be working nights/weekends so hopefully traffic won't cause too much of a problem for me. But because to find somewhere pet freindly I need to get a house, I need to then get a housemate or two to help pay the rent! :)
  3. Thanks guys :) I am looking around the Coopers Plains, Mount Gravatt area at the moment, as will need to find a housemate or two to share in the rent. Still crossing my fingers an appropriate house turns up! I love emergency work, and I am so excited to get a position in a clinic like AES. Thanks for the tips on agility clubs! I had not thought about Jimboomba! I really believe Hudson and I will get somewhere with the agility, we just need a little time and help in a group/club situation before we are really ready to compete. But I am glad I have put some good groundwork in with handling at home, its just the group situation which we can't get the same sort of thing here in Dubbo! Depending on which nights I will be working will determine a little bit which clubs I will be able to join, but I am excited to check them out!
  4. I bought a dryer! It's only taken me 2 years in the showring with a double coated breed to finally cave!
  5. Hey guys, I haven't been too active on here lately, been very busy with work.. But have some big news! Hudson and I will be moving to Brisbane at the start of August. I have been offered a position as a vet at the Animal Emergency Service at Underwood, and am really excited to be starting on a new journey in my career! So the search is on to find a house in the southern suburbs, so will be crossing my fingers something appropriate comes up which will allow me to keep Hudson, there is no option - he is coming with me! :) But a few things I am not sure how to go about, and wondering if anyone has any advice. What do I do about registration with Dogs QLD? Do I wait till my membership with Dogs NSW expires, or simply start a new membership in QLD. Do I have to do anything about transferring Hudson, or does he just stay on NSW register? (Probably a silly question, but I wasn't sure!) I am also looking at joining both an agility club and an obedience club in Brisbane. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? I am really keen to get really stuck into agility since hudson and I both LOVE it, but need to find a club which will be able to help me with his self control and attention (aka. not running out of the ring mid run!) and not just pull me off to the sidelines. He's a great dog, just young and excitable! haha Anything else I should know about dogs in Brisbane? I lived near St Lucia for close to 5 years while I went through Uni, but had no pets.. so this will be my first time living in Brisbane with a dog. :)
  6. Oh awesome! That's great thank you. :) I am so glad to know I will have somewhere to stay.
  7. Hey guys Just wondering how the camping at Durack works for this weekend. I am showing Sunday then have to start driving back to to Dubbo on Monday. I imagine camping on Saturday night will be no problems but is it possible to also camp the Sunday night? Just realised I might get locked in, so need to organise something or I might be sleeping in the car! :)
  8. People don't bother him and dogs standing about are fine too, but dogs running flat out around the course in plain sight is his number 1 distraction! Our only clean run at Newcastle early in the year was as the other course was being walked, otherwise he always seemed to have a line toward the other ring with the dog running across his line of sight! Sounds like this might be ok for him, will have to enter and see how we go! He's a good dog and we have done a lot to get ready for a trial but just can't quite get him round without distraction! :)
  9. Any others in nsw this year? I would really love to take part in one this year, but am working the weekend of the act trial
  10. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could let me know the basic ring setup at castle hill for agility? I have a young dog who has been known to duck into the next ring when they are right next to one another (only been to one trial) I have no club to practice this at and really want to continue trailing him - he has to learn this somehow! But don't want to ruin other people's runs either! Predicaments!! :/
  11. That's really cool! Open for all breeds? Not that I think it would really be my aussie's cup of tea. But still looks like fun!
  12. Hi guys, Some plans have fallen through which have meant that I am unable to stay where I was going to for the sydney royal next weekend (horrible timing I know!) And I was wondering if anyone knew of any motels/caravan parks that might allow me to have my dog? Thanks in advance!
  13. When do the schedules come out so we can send entries in for the NSW trials?
  14. Thanks guys, hope to see you there! I will be doing my best to keep my Aussie 'in' the ring! But apologise in advance if he pulls a stunt like he did at the Ian Dunbar workshop! Getting there very early tomorrow to try and get him ignoring all the commotion.
  15. Just wondering if anyone else was going to Newcastle this weekend for the agility trial? Getting excited and nervous, first trial! Hoping my entries are all ok as have received no numbers or any info further since my entries were sent through e-performance dogs! :)
  16. Hudson struggles a lot with the pivoting! I think I will try and absorb as much as possible, and come back to this following the recallers course I am just about to start.
  17. Here is a link to the info - http://www.agility-u.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_category_id=15&virtuemart_product_id=69 There are observing spots left which is what I have. You get to see all the documents/videos etc. and you can also read the forums, just cannot submit videos or comments on the forum. I don't have anywhere to learn traditional/competition obedience so I am using this as a starter to hopefully learn some heeling skills!
  18. Just wondering if anyone else was participating in the precision heeling course? I joined up toady and look forward to learning how to teach a heel position. Have started a little bit tonight of the perch work and Hudson definitely gets the idea of getting up onto the disk, it is just the pivoting we need to work on, but still have lots of time to work on it. Should help when I start to think about obedience/rally. So is anyone else doing this course, or have done it before? If so, how did you find it overall?
  19. That wound be fantastic :) I always have this discussion with my new puppy owners, so would love to read the article if you do find it by any chance. Just wanted to add - love your signature! The nurses at work fondly call me the 'ninja vet' haha.
  20. One!!! And at the moment this is enough, I will not get another till I have devoted enough time and attention getting the most out of my relationship with Hudson. :)
  21. There is if you want it to grow and develop properly This is something I don't understand completely that gets thrown around a whole lot. I would be interested in any research which has concluded that desexing at the standard 5-7 month age bracket has adverse effects on growth and skeletal maturity.
  22. If you have a link to the paper these are from, or any details I would really appreciate them! As a vet I know I mostly see one side of these things, but it certainly has made me much more aware for the day when I will own entire bitches.
  23. Well it's official.. signed up! didn't want to miss out!
  24. Thanks guys went back a little today and he did a heap better - think I have been doing too long a session, so I will make a note to really shorten them up in future. I think I will just resign myself to the fact my dog won't quite do the 6 poles in 6 days thing :) I have (if the weather improves) my first trial next weekend, with 2 jumping runs so I think I will just focus on some handling and jump work for this week until the trial. He is getting his pole entry a lot better, so we might not get shunned out of the ring if he can at least hit his entry and just fault the poles. I have just signed up for recallers, I think it will make a huge difference to our training.
