We got some great comments about the Australian Shepherds at the royal last week. :D Although you get used to it, I have people asking me all the time what sort of cross he is, oh what a good looking coolie he is, is he blind with his marbled eyes? haha

I only trim the ones on the sides of the head not the muzzle on Hudson. But I think most Aussie shepherds are left with whiskers on.

This may be a stupid question, but sure it is something that comes up often. I am about to enter a show which falls on the birthday of my dog. He was born on the 9th June 2011, and this show is on 9th June 2012.. my question is - does he show in Puppy as he only turns 12months on the day and puppy is 6-12 months, or does he have to go up into Junior? Or do I get to decide where to place him? I didn't realise I would ever have to worry about this! :p

It can be really hard to find clubs out this way! I am living in Dubbo at the moment, and I think Bathurst is still the closest for agility training... Which is a 2 and a half hour drive for me and not really do-able at the moment. If you find anything in orange, that is a little bit closer for me.. haha

Thanks so much guys, the judge even had a laugh at the cheer from the sideline for his first challenge! :D I love watching this thread and seeing the gorgeous puppies grow and mature, and hearing all the great results people have been having recently!

My little rising star turns 10 months on Monday for his first royal! Last weekend he had just a fantastic weekend with some great firsts! First points, taking out two dog challenges and his first best of breed!! Beating some lovely dogs in the process... I don't think I could have been more shocked or excited when the judge chose Hudson as his best of breed. He also took home 3 x puppy in group and a 1st and 3rd in some big sweepstakes classes along with his 40 points. :D He is currently ranked #1 Australian Shepherd rising star, #2 NSW Working Dog and #8 Working dog in Australia. Could not be any more proud of how he has been showing for me, and what a great dog he is to have around.. Just love him! Don't think I could have asked for a better first dog. :D He has me completely hooked!!

ooh do we need to take chairs and grooming tables? I was under the impression there was some kind of bench seat like there is at the Brisbane Ekka?

That looks fantastic! Not sure I will get time to get one finished for Hudson, but getting so excited about the show!

On a separate note - how far is it from the carpark to the dog section? I will be there on my own and don't have a trolley, so will need to carry all my gear + manage the dog somehow... haha

So you only need your bench slip to get in, not the ticket?

Could you elaborate, did they not like it, they didn't do well on it?

Hey guys, This is my first ever Sydney royal, never been before even as a spectator - only ever been to the Ekka in Brisbane. I have seen a few people showing their 'bench signs' which I assume are to go on the front of your allocated bench space? Are these usually just printed on paper and attached up, or what do people do with them? Also what size are these? I love graphic design.. so might have a play around and make one up for fun, but not sure how big they are. :D

I can get both through some online retailers, not just PP :) So that is a great thing. I just want to try something different, but obviously want to keep him as happy as healthy as possible and I want to help encourage his gorgeous coat. His current diet is way too high in grains and I actually have started to wonder if it is having an effect on his behaviour. I believe the Canidae Pure range is slightly cheaper, and I like that there are different types to try - has anyone had trouble switching between them with diarrhoea or gastro upsets?

I am thinking of changing to a grain free dry food for a multitude of reasons, and have these two at the top of my list at the moment. Has anyone fed either of these and can share your experience with it?

Just wanted to add in - Hudson LOVED this pig.. although it probably only lasted 5-10 minutes before it was in peices, it also has stuffing inside which he couldn't seem to resist once he had chewed it's nose off.

Just have to post a little update on Hudson, I am so proud of my boy.. even though he is a bit of a nutter sometimes and I just don't know if I am going to get brilliant show pup or crazy lunatic! :p But I guess that is part of the fun! We have been out 3 weekends this year, and he has come home with a couple of sweepstakes placings 1 x Minor IN SHOW! 3 x Minor in Group 2 x Puppy in Group 2 x Puppy of Breed And to my surprise and excitement, On the rising star pointscore: #1 Australian Shepherd #3 Working Dog in NSW #14 Working Dog in Austrlaia

Well I am headed to Newcastle first, and the roads to there all look good. I think I am actually going to skip Blacktown now and just head straight back from Newcastle sunday morning. :D

Hey guys, I had planned on making the trek from Dubbo to Newcastle this afternoon for the double shows tomorrow at hillsborough, then onto Blacktown for Sunday. I had seen that Blacktown was hoping to still continue, but wondering what the weather was like and the likelihood that either of these shows will be cancelled, or if I might get flooded in trying to get to them or show? I need to be able to get back to Dubbo for work on monday.. haha! Tossing up if it is worth it if I might get flooded or sit in the pouring rain all day. Anyone local to these can let me know? Anyone else planning on braving it?

Great to see the entries! I unfortunately have to work this weekend, so it will only be 12 aussies. :D Hope everyone has a great show, I think it would have been a lot of fun. :D
