  1. Hudson and I had a great training day at the dog park! I had him on leash and we worked on recalls, and also some different tricks on the table. So far he only knew stand, and we started working on sit + drop. :D I am hoping to keep working on these, as I feel a little silly that he is 14 weeks and only knows how to stand! :p He is finding it hard to learn the drop though? Any hints?
  2. Count me in as someone else who eagerly looks through the results each weekend!
  3. Oh no he doesn't do anything but I get him to practice a stay on the short box and we did a few walks over the low A frame just for some confidence. I know not to jump him or do anything too much to damage joints, I also want to learn properly from the start so he starts off right. Unfortunately we have no formal classes for agility nearby, a great local trainer does some, but only for fun in parts of the year. I am thinking I might have to drive 2 and a half hours when he is ready to start classes.
  4. Farmers should not have to keep Maremmas to stop wandering dogs killing their stock! The dogs shouldn't be there in the first place. In this area dingos cause minimal losses, it is usually the bored, untrained wandering dogs which get into trouble. I think if a farmer sees a dog killing his sheep, he is within his right to protect his stock. My old dogs wandered once at home and chased some cattle, the farmer came to us and kindly told us if he saw them chasing them again he would shoot them. So we made sure they had no reason to wander, but as sad as it would have been, I feel like he had the right to shoot at them if they were on his property when they shouldn't be.
  5. I have been taking my pup to dog parks this week, just to give us a bigger area to play fetch in, and he loves going out for a walk to get there. He is only 14 weeks and his recall is not yet 100%, so if there are other dogs in there, I make sure they are ok before I go in, and he does not come off leash, we just have a play around. If there is nobody there we go to the far corner, and he goes straight back on lead if someone goes to come in with another dog.
  6. A few photos from the past few weeks I have missed!! Hudson's first show! The aftermath from the first show! Out of focus mad running! My new fav photo of him, blew this up and framed it on the wall!
  7. I have found a nearby dog park with some fixed agility equipment! :D Hudson acted like he already knew how to do the tiny a frame, I think I am going to have to struggle to teach him not just to pick the a-frame! :p
  8. I would find out which test this reading was on. If it was total t4 which it sounds like, 10 isnt very low. And dogs with any other illness or stress can have low t4 readings, that is called sick euthyroid syndrome and is quite common.
  9. I would say somewhere around 200-250 give or take, it really depends on the individual vets.
  10. Here is Hudson after his first show! :D He came home with a Baby Puppy of Breed first time out, and was beaten by his sister for baby puppy today. SO proud of the little guy, it was both of our first times in the ring. Could not have asked for a more perfect weekend! Not the greatest photo, Saturday was a lot for him to take in, and stacking properly was not on his high priority list. :p
  11. Congrats Ons! Yeap the baby aussie dog was Hudson! :D No luck for us in sweeps, although his sister (the other baby aussie) was 3rd today. He beat her for Baby Puppy of Breed on Saturday and had a decent look in for group. No luck today with just a win in his class. He improved SO much over the two days, it was amazing to see how quick he was working it all out. So excited for our next shows in 2 weeks time, and we also have lots to work on, but at least now I know what to try and improve and a little bit on how to do it. Sorry I didn't get to meet either of you, it was a little bit of a blur! Here is a quick snap I got of him on Saturday during the lunch break, he was very excited and he isn't stacked properly, but I still like it! :D
  12. Ticks are getting to be almost a year round thing on the coast now. Sad to say the snakes are also active.. 5 cases this week alone!
  13. Hey guys, I have just recently started scrapbooking as a way to keep photos and records for my new pup. :D I was wondering if anyone else here has done any scrapbooking of their dogs? And if you have pics I would LOVE to see!
  14. Hudson has only just started walking.. He was already fairly good at the 'show gaiting' pose, so now I just give him the command 'lets go' which means walk beside me with a loose lead and look ahead (quite similar to his show gait). He doesn't stop to sniff unless I stop, and he also is not allowed to pull or cross over (otherwise he trips me up!) He also has to stand + 'wait' before crossing roads, then I give him the ok by 'lets go' again. I am so lucky he seems to be picking this up quickly. But with cars, posties, bikes, prams and kids he can be a little distracted sometimes!
  15. Safe Travel to everyone and good luck for tomorrow! I hope to see you all on Friday night or sometime Saturday! :D I will be getting there around 9ish, so hopefully can find where I am supposed to be.
  16. I reccomend my clients either start their pups on monthly Milbemax tablets for intestinal and heart worm (at least this way I know people are giving what they need, rather than 2 different products), and discuss lots of flea options. The other good choice for pups is Advocate, which is what I am currently using on my pup.
  17. I would try and get him onto a puppy diet, Adult food really isn't the best for young pups. Depending on the vaccine your vet used, he may quite rightly need another vacc in 4 weeks time, as not all C3 vaccs are registered for 10 week finishes. I like to be careful sometimes anyway, but I do live in a high parvo prevalence area.

  19. Hey guys, I was just wondering when you all start training basics with your future agility pups? I am well aware of not doing anything too much to risk the pups joints, but I guess you must work on some foundation work quite early? I am definately interested in one day doing some agility with Hudson, even though there doesn't seem like much in this area.
  20. Congrats!! sounds like you all had a wonderful time! :D
  21. I just got my numbers in the mail today!! So excited!! :D His sweeps classes are HUGE 28-31 in each. This might be normal though I suppose.. little bit nerve wracking, seems like alot of dogs in the ring all at once! Wish I knew how many were in his class, seriously can't wait till Thurs - final training + bath day, then driving fri night and hopefully can meet some people on Friday night too before the show on sat!
  22. Wow! I do not know agility too well yet, but that was AMAZING! :D
  23. I have bought mine from the local pet shop, but I wanted to have them here when I got Hudson. His favourite toys are - Wobbler - most dinners are fed in this! He gets so into it sometimes, bashing it against the walls and even barking at it occasionally! Kong Wubba - pretty much his favourite toss + tug toy! He sleeps at night with his Kong Squiggle and also has a normal puppy kong. I would love to get him a flyer when he is a bit older though!
  24. I would love to see some photos! I am hoping to do this circuit next year, unfortunately my little guy was just a week too young for this year!
