  1. Works both ways I reckon. I'm not sure what this puppy is going to cost you but I do know purebred dogs are not cheap. If you are going to part with your hard earned cash I'd be wanting a pic of where puppy is living, sleeping quarters, siblings, parents. You'd need to check out where the pups are coming from is clean. Ask for a pic of the breeder too. You don't know if this is a real person either. I'd be happy to post pics of my garden, where puppy will be sleeping, other pets, fencing ect but no way in hell will I send someone a pic of me. Do they really want to risk breaking their screen? LOL
  2. Did the vet actually see it happening? If not perhaps you could film it and show to the vet (perhaps a different one) next time you go
  3. Interesting about dogs not liking citrus/lemons...my dog licks the window, totally gross!! I will try wiping a lemon over it after I wash it next time.
  4. Ok oopsy so going to nursing homes ect is what you meant...sorry. I took my kelpie cross to nursing homes back a few years ago. Cost me nothing. I do remember going to see a lady who ran the program to asses her and me first. It didn't cost me anything. I (and many others I'm sure) would not have done it if I had to fork out cash.
  5. Why don't you take him out and about to the nursing homes. He sounds like he would be perfect for that.
  6. I am also looking forward to the on-line course. My dogs are pretty well behaved but I love seeing these dogs that look so happy and focused on what they are doing. Mine are like..."yeah yeah whatever obedience ok I'll do it if we must". I want mine to have the same enthusiasm
  7. I would LOVE to know how they get their dogs to constantly look at them? The only way I can come close to that is using food, but at my club food is not allowed to be used.
  8. They are all soooo cute. Love the puppy stages. I want another one.....one day lol
  9. Are you sure she is only coming back to feed it 2 or 3 times a week? Do you stay home and look out your windows 24/7? May I ask what breed of dog it is? $3000 seems alot of money. Gee if I paid that much (and even if my dog was a giveaway but that's beside the point) I would not be leaving it alone in a empty property for someone to possibly steal.
  10. I'm a good 5 hour drive to any major cities. I'm envious of you that live where there are many options for joining different clubs. We are going to buy all the stuff and do it ourselves. Plenty of training videos on you-tube. You could do same Penstar
  11. While cleaning out my cupboards I have found a big bag of dried kelp powder, it's probably about 18 months old but has been stored away in a sealed plastic bag in the dark cupboard. I remember I bought it for my sheep to make up a lick and obviously never got round to using it. From memory it was quite expensive and I should put it to good use. Can I feed some to the dogs as an additive in their food? Has anyone else used kelp and what were the benefits? How much should I use? Or does anyone else know any other good uses for it...
  12. How old is your puppy? My Rotti used to get carsick until he was maybe 5 months old, then gradually grew out of it. Now at 9 months he doesn't get sick at all
  13. Cool.....nights would be good in summer :)
  14. aaaw the puppy pics are so cute. I remember when I could hold my boy in my arms like a baby...not anymore, he's a big lanky teenager now. I love the intelligence of the breed, he is one of the easiest dogs I've ever trained. We are top of the class in obedience and I'm hoping to trail soon. Love the kayaking pics, my boy is a bit scared of water atm, a hot summer might change that though ;) He is 9 months and weighs only 22 kilos, he was the runt though. Should he weigh more? The vet said keep him more on the lean side. We feed Blackhawk, fresh mince and chicken frames (when I can get them). I also have added yogurt for extra calcium.
  15. I've been enjoying this thread too. Love the pics. I love rotties now I have my own but to be honest I was dead scared of them before. My boy is such a gentle soul. I will never be without one now. Just interested to know...some of them have the pointier nose, longer faces and some have the bigger, boofier faces. Where does that come from? American and german lines?
  16. I've thought about this also. Before all this wonderful info on the internet I used to feed my dogs the cheapest possible supermarket dry food and as a treat a tin of pal, bones on their birthdays and xmas day. They lived to pretty good ages, and we rarely went to a vet. They were also nearly always mixed breed muts from pet shops or advertised in local classifieds. The same goes for humans, my mum smokes and she is in good health for 88. However her sister died quite young from lung cancer and she never smoked...ever.
  17. Maleny is such a lovely place, I very nearly lived there... went there back in 2001, completely fell in love with the place and began looking at real estate, I was pleasantly surprised at the low prices and made the decision to relocate there the following year. Went back the following year and prices had more than doubled in price, no doubt they have risen way out of my reach now. Lesson learnt...do not hesitate! Anyway back on topic....Malakita, it was a very cheap holiday, even cheaper cause we stayed at free camping spots most of the time.
  18. Would depend on what breed of dog, and how long dog will be left in the run. Ours is about 2 meters by 4 meters but they only sleep in it
  19. Just an update... So glad we took the dogs, they were so well behaved and loved every minute being with us. Yeah so we missed out on a few national parks, but there was so much else to see. Very happy we made the decision to take them as it wouldn't have been the same without them. And a plus is you also get to meet other dog lovers and others who camp and travel with their dogs and pick up a few tips along the way. Here are a few pics
  20. Of course it killed the guinea pig...it's a dog! All of my 3 would kill a guinea pig if they could get to one. Only stupid people put the poor guinea pigs in this situation. Is this an actual scenario? If so I'd like to know the outcome (if possible) Or is it just a hypothetical?
  21. Hi, we are heading over to Adelaide this weekend and taking all 3 of our dogs. Just wondering if there was any lure coursing, or perhaps even fly ball we could join in with? Even though we are heading there for a birthday party we like to do something different and fun with our dogs, kind of like a reward for having to endure a 5 hour car drive.
  22. WOW 6 months! Awesome effort. Do you know the breed by any chance?
  23. In Australia of course. Just curious as to the youngest, and if known what breed? Not necessarily a pass but to compete. Then I guess the next question would be the youngest dog to pass a trail?
