  1. Rescue Remedy is a holistic forumla that you spray on your dogs tounge that eases mild aniexty. If you've given in and let your dog in whilst it has been barking then the dog has won and it's going to take a bit of work to get it going right again. How about just starting at 5 seconds and working up from there?
  2. I'd be working on Leadership, there is book #1 & 2 I'd reccomend from Jan Fennell. TOT will help create food drive and NILIF will assist the dog with focus and offering correct behaviours (pack drive I guess you could say).
  3. Yep, well if that's what the breeder reccomends. I think my think with BARF is that you have to get the ratio dead on.
  4. The adult has every right to have space whilst he eats, allow both to eat in piece and pop them in seperate rooms or one inside and on outside until they both are comfortable with each other and know the boundaries. No need to yell, may even make the issue worse.
  5. BARF is a great well balanced food if all the ratio's are correct, if it's not it may very well do more than harm than good. As for the breeder being sponsored by a kibble company.....that was a very laughable comment.....LM are you sponsored by BARF? I'd always be going for what the breeder reccomends, they know their breed the best. i.e. some breeds need to grow very slowly and BARF may not be suitable for these breeds.
  6. I loved my girl too much in the first year of her arriving.....skinny rescue girl, for some reason I just couldn't help myself spoling her with food....leason learned! She has lost 10 kg's over the last 12 months. She gets mashed veggies only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. Other days she gets BARF. In the mash we have a high ratio of pumpkin (good for weight loss) and no carrot as it has a high sugar content. In incorporation with this, free running also did wonders instead of just onlead walking.
  7. mmm I don't think BARF is the best for all puppies? I'd definately go with what your breeder is feeding when the puppies leave them.
  8. I think I have around 20 or so dog training books here, not one of them says to withold water from a dog. Toilet training isn't hard, be realistic and be on schedule and things go to plan.
  9. I think it's perfectly acceptable for the older dog to air snap (repremand the puppy). I wouldn't seperate them whilst I'm home with them as the puppy needs to learn and there's no damage done. Sometimes it can take up to 4 weeks for things to go back to normal again with no snapping. It can be hard to watch but as long as it's just an air snap I don't see any issues. For the first week of having a new foster, Leila will repremand quite a bit, she'll also chuck the dog out of the lounge room and the bedroom, then after a couple of weeks things are back to normal.
  10. Have you done any seperation training with her? I.e. pop her outside for say 2 minutes and granted she's not barking or crying let her in and give her a treat then over time you extend the time bit by bit. Also ignoring the puppy and not making a fuss when you let the dog in or put the dog out can assist. Have you tried some rescue remedy as well?
  11. LOL well I didn't point the bird out to him even though I highly dislike those swooping buggers! You never know, he may still be here in Feb
  12. Sorry, but what is your point? I should not add my thoughts on the matter? If you believe a pup needs feeding/checking during a long day alone, why are you questioning LM? Sunny70 for one seems to think it is OK to leave a puppy for ten hours with kibble. Why not argue with him/her instead? I know the general trend around here is to disagree with Lillysmum, and I have certainly done so in the past, but I agree with her on this issue, especially being that it is my breed that the OP is referring to. I will support her in her opinion, rather than picking her post to pieces just for the sake of argument, as it seems others in this thread are doing. Nobody has a monopoly on answering queries in these forums. It is an open discussion board. State your thoughts and let the OP take the info provided on board and do with it what they consider best for their dog and their situation. Looks like you took me the wrong way, I was just asking what your opinion was in regards to homing a puppy with a family who would arrange for someone to come and feed to puppy during the day VS a family that does not have someone come in and check on a puppy. This thread didn't start out by talking about the possibility of having someone come in a feed the puppy and interact with it, perhaps this is where the cnfusion has arrisen from? I have mentioned earlier in this thread that I do not feel it is suitable for a puppy to be left alone for 8-10 hours per day, however in this situation the person is going to do this, so rather than just jumping down their throats which I do not feel is productive, why not give them some feedback as to what they can do to make this a more viable situation and this is when having someone come in and feed the puppy and interact with it during the day came into the conversation. I haven't jumped on LM on this thread at all. I actually posted before she did and only just now asked her for clarification on post at the top of this page. This is a public forum, I can challenge LM's comments just as she challenges mine, I'm sure she's not curled up in a corner rocking back and forth. As LM says this is a public forum where everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In addition people in the puppy problem forum are usually new to DOL and their learning curve is just begining so rather than being negative and making them feel like an incompetent dog owner I feel that the better approach is looking at all sides. Again I don't agree with the situation but I can look at the other side of the coin to see some viable options to make it work.
  13. Well French people are stuffed then aren't they LOL
  14. I realise you said that, I was just making a comment. So when is the dog barking that is annoying you?
  15. Ditto to the questions that Lillysmum has asked. I would not leave a baby puppy alone for more than four hours, and would not sell a pup to someone who would. If someone is working fulltime I believe they should make arrangements to either get home during the day and give the puppy lunch and a little company, or, organise for a freind/neighbour to drop in and do same. Yes and that is what we have been discussing, that if you have a puppy then you'll need to have someone pop into to feed it its meals during the day and have some interaction time.
  16. So Lilly, you're fine with someone who works full time to have a puppy if they can have someone feed it the meals it requires during the day? That seems to be your main validation point here?
  17. No, at 3 months you can't expect the dog the control it's bladder fantasticaly. I think you have been told cobblers. Go back and toilet train your dog from scratch. Sorry but you can't withold water just because your child is picking it up, why don't you get a heavy ceramic bowl so there is no way the child can pick it up.
  18. They're not called shock collars.....from what you've said you haven't tried one on yourself. For a puppy a electric no-bark collar isn't really the way to go IMO Is your puppy barking when you're home? Is puppy an inside or outside dog? How old is puppy?
  19. I don't think they're toxic, it's just gross LOL
  20. Ok, I think you missed the esstential part here. It is LAW to provide your dog with water, you can not withold it just because you have an air-conditioned home.....I take it you never need a drink when you're in your air conditioned home? Do I also understand that you're dog doesn't get a great deal of interaction as your child can't be with the dog? Or did I misunderstand that bit?
