  1. I haven't read through all the pages....but if those puppies are showing aggression in the true sense of the term at that early age then that's bloody scary in my opinion and I'd be very concerned about them as they matured. I would stay away from Dog Tech.........you don't need to have any experience or qualifications to own a Dog Tech Franchise......look for an Accredited trainer such as K9 Force in Sydney.
  2. I've just experienced for the first time a lapse in toilet training of a foster dog, we just went back to step 1, taking them out every 1-2 hours and praising etc....all is going well again. Stuff me if I know why they have a lapse but I think going back to step one for a refresher definately assists.
  3. I'm personaly more partial to the Martingale (small bit of chain at the back). I don't think any training tool available in Australia right now is cruel....if you're trained on how to use it correctly.
  4. Sounds crapolla to me. Expecting a puppy to sit for an hour is unrealistic and just silly. I can understand that a bit of talking would have taken place on the first session to explain techniques etc but not as much as you said took place.
  5. You shouldn't leave a muzzle on a dog unattended incase anything happens to the dog. Your dog has every right to get cranky at the cat for being on its' bed. If they don't get along then seperate them.....cats and dogs aren't natures best friends after all. Big deal if you have to move everything for the cat. I don't see an animal problem here.
  6. Oh jesus, I had tears of laughter. Now for those not familiar with 'shock collars' keep in mind humans have far more pain receptors at skin level than dogs do so what a dog feels isn't what you would feel if you did the same....oh shit that was funny.
  7. Wow....should move to Victoria.....the ability to be allowed to play with a hose.
  8. RIP Pyro. Another Angel you know....
  9. Ah....here's something I saw on Today Tonight......if the kids leave stuff on the floor the mum sells it on eBay!
  10. It just made sense considering what a dogs digestive tract was most suited to.
  11. I remember throwing a treat to Leila the first time and watching it bounce off her head...also happened with a frisbee. For some reason I thought it was an inbuilt reaction for dogs to catch treats. We did little baby steps in regards to how close the treat was to her mouth. Now she's a fab catcher Also if she didn't catch treat, I'd grab it.
  12. I can tell you why I stopped going to my club and hense the improvements that need to be made: 1) Uneducated trainers, placing dog aggressive dogs in dangerous situations. 2) Old fashion methods. i.e. for heel.....walk yank...walk yank... OR....drop = give dog command and then yank it's collar and pull it into a drop even if it is giving high resistance. 3) Trainers with little patience, I have seen trainers belittle some people because they didn't feel confident to take the head halter off quite yet. 4) People not being aware of their dog and keeping a good distance from other dogs especially dogs wearing special colour collars to specifiy they can be aggressive. 5) Classes too long, no breaks or fun encouraged.
  13. Is it possible that it is a wort?
  14. I personaly think you're expecting too much from a 9 week old puppy. I would be more working on bonding with the puppy and ensuring the leadership program is going well before starting training.
  15. I have a couple of treat bags but I usually always use my jacket pocket. We usually use a combination between cabonosse and cheese. Leila will do anything for Cheese.
  16. Royal is my preference along with Pro Plan. The only time I've had a dog turn its' nose up at it is with the Giant Breed Forumla.
  17. The 2 x 9 day stints has made it impossible for me. I'd love to see NDTF grow in the coming years so they can open in other states
  18. Really? That's interesting isn't it.....
  19. Have you read into becoming the leader? There are some excellent books out there at the moment. One good one that covers this topic is called 'Dog Listener' from Jan Fennell.
  20. I wouldn't suggest a head halter for a lunging dog at all. If you are 100% going to get one no matter what anyone says then I would say don't get the new style one that has the clip at the back of the head, get the old style one that clips under the chin and you can get an extra connector for it which clips from the halter to a collar as extra backup.
  21. Damn, I don't want to take a human worming tablet....what if I do have worms and that is what is keeping me from putting on weight LOL *squirms* @ itchy bum because the worms come out at night....ewww!
  22. I agree with you sonni. To me, a dog is entitled to bark. Just because we're supposedly SUPERIOR as humans, the "highest" in the food chain we must think we can do whatever we want. Your dogs are not entitled to bark excessively and distrub others.
  23. I guess that's true if the other people have chosen puppies for pets or for confirmation. I want good drive but I don't want too much drive that the dog is just too much. But in saying that I want a dog that wants to be with me as well and not being terribly independent.....I think I'm going to have a really hard time choosing a puppy when the time comes.
  24. Way to go Vickie! After seeing Trim in action I can't wait to see what she achieves in 2007! LOL @ 9th place for falling over
