Christmas photos from yesterday - I am going away to spend time with my partners family and Elsie can't come, so she is staying on my parents farm and we had a little family Christmas yesterday, so Elsie got her presents! First play time Then Libby & Lottie got to open their presents. And then it was Elsie's turn..... (this was her clean run order!)

First off was a trip to the dog park to play with buddy Hugo the Golden. As you can see, Hugo is pretty darn handsome! Elsie enjoys biting his soft face... After running around a little... ... It was time to go cool off! I am such a proud mummy, Elsie has finally figured out swimming at 14 months old!

How Much Training Does Your Dog Get And Why?
Podengo replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I train a few times a day, might do weaves in the morning and again at lunch for 2-3 minutes, and some obedience or trick training in the evening for up to 15 minutes. Oh and go out and track some days too, that's an hour of walking but only like 4 minutes of tracking all up! -
Thought I would give this thread a bump, as one of our summer projects is weaving! We are training 2x2 weaves, now up to 4 poles in a straight line yay! This method is SO fun and SO easy! I can't believe how quickly Elsie picked it up, we aren't even training every day, and our sessions are always less than 5 minutes Next on the list once I get keys to the club for summer... running contacts...

Dog at boarding kennels was a known poo eater, one morning I wasn't quick enough to pick up his diarrhoea and he ate it, a few minutes later he threw it up, then ate that... And so the circle of life poo continues... Elsie is gross... eats poo (thankfully not dog poo), rolls in poo, eats dead stuff, rolls in dead stuff, eats grass, gets grass poo stuck (most the time I shut the door and tell her to work it out for herself), kills stuff, rolls in freshly killed stuff... Elsie has done this too...

Elsie's 2013 goals - Train reliable weaves - Train reliable running contacts - Start agility! - Start working trials! - Start tracking trials! - RN title - CDX title

I read today about people using night lights with dogs with vision problems and that has helped them settle down at night time - thought that was a pretty neat idea :)

burn those seeds once you get them off if they aren't already growing in your garden. Not my dog thankfully! But I think they are probably growing in her garden!

Shave the dog? :p Elsie doesn't pick up seeds thankfully... but the giants we walk with.....

Elsie gets K9 natural raw + bones, and a kibble which is pro plan performance at the moment, might swap to acana or orijen after this bag runs out. I feed it because she does well on it :)

Oooh there are still kennels on the ferry! Might have to use them :)

Yeah we're breaking the Welly - AKL legs into two days. We drove from AKL-CHCH in one day when we got a car up there, such a loooong drive! I didn't know they ever had kennels in the ferry, will find out! Everyone I know leaves their dogs crated in a car, or in a dog trailer. She has never been destructive with anything, but vomit could be an option.... Might put a tarp under her crate too... Rescue remedy is a good idea! She won't take a food if a car is moving/on, but might do in the ferry... Worth a shot... Maybe something frozen in a kong as that could keep her cool too...

Any tips for a summer road trip with a dog on board? We are driving from Christchurch to Levin in January to attend a 3 day tracking/working trials seminar, then driving up the west coast of the North Island to Auckland, spending a few days with a friend there, and then driving back down to CHCH. It will be Elsie's first big road trip (she has gone as far as Nelson for showing before). Will do a bit of sightseeing on the way up and down so will have plenty of rest stops for her. I want to get a fan for her crate, any recommendations for a good one? She is going to have to stay in the car while on the Ferry crossing the straight - would you leave a fan on in this situation (she might get stressed and hot?) or leave it off (it's probably quite cool in the ship?). She doesn't enjoy travelling much, she used to get very car sick as a puppy, and while she is over that, she would much rather NOT be in a car - would it be worth getting some DAP to spray on her bedding to reduce her stress levels? Oh and yes, we will take LOTS of photos :p

My friend's show dogs run wild and freeee on our forest walks!
