  1. Our staffy had epilepsy, we had blood tests to rule out any underlying issues but he was perfectly healthy apart from the seizures. We had him on Epibrom and Phenomav, highest doses of both and he was still having weekly seizures. Side effects were increased appetite, always drinking water (presumably he had dry mouth which people also get from medications) and problems with digestion. We made the decision in May to PTS as he had three seizures in less than 2 weeks, and he bit my husband quite badly after one of them, he came out of his seizures very disoriented and aggressive
  2. It is strange, I suppose it is like an OCD in humans, you know you shouldn't be doing it but you can't help it It is funny that you mention the sucking thing - when Drake was a pup he used to suck on our other dog's hindlegs/ back for ages, as long as Ty would let him do it. He grew out of that, but I wonder if it is related.
  3. My dobermann was recently put on Endep for the same problem. He has an old injury on his leg, and he licks and licks it until it is raw, his leg swells up and he starts limping and hopping. The vet said it is a habit and is stress related, the Endep is supposed to relax him. So far, I haven't seen too much improvement, he is calmer but he still licks his leg. Next thing I want to try is the bittering liquid, but I have a feeling he will just lick it off anyway. Stupid animal If you find a solution, please let us know, I'd love to hear of other things to try.
  4. He's on 50mg morning and night, will keep an eye out for sleepiness. He is pretty highly strung, so if it helps calm him down a bit, that will be a good thing
  5. Just took my dobermann to the vet as he has a problem with his leg, it was injured a while ago, and he constantly licks and chews it and it swells up. The vet said it was probably some sort of OCD/ anxiety issue, and has put him on Endep (50mg twice a day) Does anyone else have a dog in this medication, and if so, did you see any results, change in behaviour etc? Any side effects? Thanks in advance :)
  6. I've had a few photobooks, a few canvasses and lots of prints with them and I think they are great quality and value Even my mum, who is an amateur photographer and has spent a fortune on printing up her stuff, was impressed.
  7. This is my favorite sunset shot, it was taken a while ago. Sunset over the Meditteranean Sea, at Lila Beach in Israel
  8. Thanks for replying :D The vet said there isn't much they can do at this stage and it is up to us whether or not to bring him in, but she did say definately bring him in if it happens again. He hasn't suffered any trauma that I know of, and the only new things he has been exposed to that I can think of are flea powder and eucalyptus oil (diluted and sprayed on the floor). Our other two dogs are fine, so I don't think it could have been anything in the yard or anything he ate. I'll keep an eye on him, hopefully it was just a one off. It was bloody scary though, especially when he started foaming. My poor hubby thought the little guy was dying
  9. I haven't read through this entire thread, but rather than start a new one I thought I would ask here Apologies if I am repeating anything. My staffy boy, who is three and a half, had a seizure yesterday. One minute he was sitting on the lounge, the next he was on the ground convulsing. It lasted for about 5 mins, and he was foaming at the mouth and lost control of his bowel/bladder. When he came out of it, my hubby and I couldn't get near him for about 15 mins, he hackeled up and growled at us if we tried to approach him. Eventually he got up and walked over to my husband, he had a drink of water and was fine after that, like nothing had happened. I phoned the vet as it was happening and she told me it was normal and not to worry unless he has another one. I was too shaken up to ask her much, but I would like to know if it is pretty common for dogs to have seizures out of nowhere, and apart from epilepsy are there any causes for random seizures in healthy young dogs? Could something environmental, like a flea treatment or an insect bite be a cause? Thanks
  10. OMG, that is awesome Thank you so much, Freckles
  11. Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help me out. I need to get the man removed from this picture, would be very grateful if someone could have a go for me. I have zero experience with photoshop Thanks in advance
  12. I feed my Dobe pup completely on the BARF diet. He gets chicken carcasses or wings or some Scottys roll for breakfast and lamb flaps or necks or chicken mince with pulped veges, offal, a fish oil capsule and a multivitamin for dinner. I add an egg and some yoghurt to his mince twice a week. He also gets a whole mackeral for breaky once a week. My 16 month old staffy gets a combination of bones, carcasses and high quality dry food. If I give the dobe bones or carcasses for breaky, he gets one too, but his dinner is dry food with an egg and some yoghurt. My 11 year old staffy gets a carcass once a week, and her dinner is completely high quality dry food with an egg every so often. All my dogs are very healthy and active, have great teeth and shiny coats, are not over or underweight and have no gastric problems. I guess it comes down to what you feel comfortable feeding them, in the end. I would love to have all my dogs on the BARF diet, but my old girl's tummy can't tolerate it (she gets awful wind and diarrhoea when she has too much raw food), and the young staffy is a bit the same...he gets bad gastro when he has too much raw food.
  13. We just helped my OH's sister lay her staffy, Max, to rest in a little corner in our backyard Max, now you're free in doggie heaven You can jump as high as you like, run as fast as you want and roll in the grass to your hearts content. RIP buddy
  14. Im so sorry to hear this She was a gorgeous little bubby, and I'm sure you made her short time on this earth full of love and care.
  15. Kangaroo or chicken mince is fine for dogs. Leonards has pet grade chicken mince for $1 per KG but it is a bit fatty...we always boiled it then let it sit for a while and took the fat off the top before we bagged it. Kangaroo mince is about $2-3 per KG from the pet store and it can be given raw. They have lean and semi lean varieties too.
  16. Supercoat caused a bad stomache problem in my staffy pup, and he also had very sensitive skin. I now feed him Science Diet Sensitive Stomach blend, and have had no problems with his skin or tummy since.
  17. My pup was on Eukanuba for the first 3 months, now I have switched to Supercoat for both my dogs - Lite and Mature for my older staffy and Puppy for my pup. They also get a mix of roo mince/heart/liver/kidney/rice instead of tinned food.
  18. Thanks, guys. I gave him some boiled chicken with rice and cornflour yesterday, and he wolfed that down. I also got some yoghurt and apple cider vinegar to add to his food, and he loves it. He seems to be fine now - no diarrhoea last night, so I think it was just a little tummy upset. It is amazing how much you can worry about a dog, isn't it
  19. Well, its morning now, and seems to be back to his usual playful self. He still has a bit of diarrhoea, but it isn't as bad as it was yesterday. Im gonna try him on a bit of food soon - he has been looking for food all morning. Ive heard a bit of cornflour mixed in with some rice and mince is good for them, is this right?
  20. Thanks for your help guys. I just rang the vet, and he said to take him off all food for 24hrs, make sure he has plenty of water, and if he is no better by tomorrow, bring him in. He said it is unlikely to be parvo, because his poo would be black with blood, and there is hardly any of it this time of year. He said it is probably just a tummy upset from drinking the salty lake water. I wont be letting him paddle in the lake again!!
  21. Could it be that if he has had all of his shots?
  22. I took my pup for a walk down to the lake, and he went for a little paddle and drank a bit of water. Today, he is very lethargic, and has really bad diarrhoea. He ate a bit of dry food this morning, and hasn't been vomiting. He hasn't had much to dring. Does this sound like gastro, or something more serious? Should I get him to a vet, or just wait and see if he gets better? He is normally very playful, but today he is just laying on the floor and sleeping, when he isn't going to the toilet.
