So what changes with this dog TOMORROW? What action can you take to secure her immediately?
-
Wild: Inaccurate and unfair. Your dog will probably be declared dangerous and guess what. She is. She displayed unprovoked aggression to a human being. That's what you should be focussing on. Your first responsibility is to ensure that this never ever happens again. Secure your dog. Build a run, fence off the gates from the rest of the property. What ever it takes. Your dog can never afford to be unsecured near the gates of your property again. Treat her like the aggressive dog she very clearly is. Next time she could badly hurt someone... or worse.

I use the Guardian safety lights - can be used for people or dogs. Strong, long lasting and they clip into a collar

Help! My Neighbour's Dog Killed My Husky :(
Salukifan replied to HuskyDrake's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ah, the power of 20/20 hindsight... In many such cases, people freeze. Huskydrake acted - the best way she knew. A single person acting alone has probably got very little chance of stopping a determined dog hell bent on killing another. At least she is in one piece. Plenty of people sustain dreadful injuries trying to break up fights. Never forget it. -
Where's the "like" button. If someone cannot respect how you want your dog to be treated, then they don't interact. End of Story.

Yes, they can and yes, they do. Happens all the time on Gumtree and the Trading Post. It sounds to me like this person is not an ANKC registered breeder. There is no need to be evasive about having a prefix unless, of course you don't. Contact the Pug Club and get a steer towards a decent registered breeder with pups.

Supplement Suggestions For Young Dog.
Salukifan replied to Steph M's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Flaxseed oil should not be fed constantly but in rotation with other oils. -
You can't blame pet dog buyers, many of whom think "papers" are only for "show dogs" if they get taken for a ride by a registered breeder looking to cut costs. It's a breach of CC regulations in most states not to register all pups in a litter and if I had an email from a breeder who's supposed to be doing it offering pups without papers, it would be in the In Box of the Canine Control pronto. Shonks will do what they think they can get away with. Stop letting them get away with it and certainly do NOT line their wallets by buying pups from them.

Supplement Suggestions For Young Dog.
Salukifan replied to Steph M's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What about something like K9 Show Stopper? If you weren't philosophically wedded to raw feeding, I'd suggest you try 2 months of adding some kibble to his diet to see if it made a difference. Friend of mine feeds RC Maxi junior to her dog and is very happy with the results. I know a lot of folk who've switched to RC from other diets and have seen improvements in coat and muscle condition. Sometimes you need to experiment a bit to find out what your dog does best on. What ever that is is what I'd be feeding. -
Go kitty!!!

Safe Environment Where Dog Can Interact With Other Dogs
Salukifan replied to BoxerB's topic in General Dog Discussion
My recommendation would be to join a decent dog training club and you'll find opportunities to socialise would flow. In case you didn't know this, a lot of dogs aren't overly fond of Boxers because they can't read their facial expressions well. Ideally, I'd be looking for other Boxers to socialise with. Has your boy already got decent socialisation skills? -
You're going to need all the help you can get. Sandra 777 and other Stafford breeders are your best sources of advice but if they give it, be very grateful. BYB Staffords are legion. Reading threads here has taught me that Stafford bitches can be aggressive towards their pups if calcium levels aren't right. Do your homework. I hope your girl is sufficiently developed to whelp this litter naturally. If not, I hope your credit card has a big empty balance. You really should have gone for the injection. Shame you didn't post here when you found them tied.

Watery Bloody Poo And Vomiting
Salukifan replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sounds like HGE. Your friends clearly don't grasp the gravity of chronic dehydration for their dog. This is potentially life threatening. -
I recommend: * more time outside * giving him big cardboard boxes to destroy while out there * removing rugs and bedding while the habit is there * giving him more RMBs. What's he eating now?

While you're at the vet, get her thyroid levels checked.

Yes :) we have a rather big backyard and i take them out for some fetch, a run, and just to have a little sniff as well as working on their recall and getting them to follow me then randomnly changing where i walk, they love it! Ace loves the kind of activity that really makes him think. He also really seems to enjoy, i set up jumps in the backyard with bricks and whatevers laying around, and he loves going through it, its really fun to watch :D Can they be left in the backyard safely? I'd have them out there a LOT more.
-
Do they have access to a back yard? If they are not being exercised regularly, destructive behaviour may be their outlet.... it's FUN!!
-
Shut the bedroom door. No access for dogs unless you are with them and frankly, I'd be sleeping them in crates. How much exercise do these dogs get?

I think Gilbert's breeder has passed away? -
Breeding For "performance", Not Show
Salukifan replied to JRT Lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
If I wanted a Jack for agility, I'd go straight to Wildenfox -
Agree with Maddy. I actually find hair and nail growth has slowed on my older dog. Less activity and perhaps favouring one foot may explain why your dogs nails are longer and one foot is longer than the other.

Terrier Training Help Please?
Salukifan replied to miss2's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You might want to consider teaching your boy that he has an off switch. Susan Garrett said it and I agree. Dogs have to be taught to deal with boredom. His life has changed and in order for him to adapt, he needs to learn to chill. I'd be considering crate training. Susan Garratt, as I understand it, wrote Ruff Love with her JRT in mind. -
Breeding For "performance", Not Show
Salukifan replied to JRT Lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think the point's already been made but in some breeds, "performance temperament" for dog sports is not going to be the traditional breed temperament, nor the one specified in the breed standard. And frankly, that may also be the case for structure. I'm not talking about tests of working ability like gundog work but even they have been stylised to some degree. I've heard it said that a dog that can win a US retrieving trial is not necessarily the dog you want to go and and shoot over every day. So I think it pays to remember that for all competitive pursuits, the traditional breed conformation and temperament may be altered to make for a more competitive dog. Singling the show ring out as the sole source of this is inaccurate. So for JRT's is a biddable, people focussed dog, higher on leg for speed what the breed was bred for? Is performance in agility the "test" of a "proper" JRT?? Is that what breeders should be selecting to take forward in the breed?
