1. And can result in a lot of unncessary worry for dog owners. No need to spook the horses here IMO.
2. Are we talking urinary incontinence? Is it hormonal? A simple test and some medication could fix the issue. Otherwise, does she have a urinary tract infection? Failing a fix , I'd crate her with appropriate bedding rather than force her to be in contact with her urine. If she's been banished outside due to her incontinence, I'm not surprised she prefers your home.
3. It would have bugger all nutritional value for a dog. Dogs gain weight from fat, not carbs I'd go for three smaller meals a day, rather than two larger ones. Feed the best quality protein and fat but don't over do it.
4. Pigs ears are junk food for dogs - and probably the source of the farting quite frankly. They'd have little nutritional value. I would feed her up on chicken wings and fatty raw meaty bones and try some kibble for sensitive stomachs unless you want to raw feed completely.
5. Short of an aggression incident because your dog fails to heed the warnings, and perhaps even then, you won't. You have to be the one that ends the interaction. No backing off? Game over. Some Cockers either don't seem to recognise the body language asking them to back off, or they simply don't care. They can demonstrate a behaviour known as "obnoxious submission" - their body language is appeasing and playful but they simply don't back off. You'll have to step in.
6. Or she is a resource guarder. Don't let her past cloud your view of her behaviour. I recall attending a seminar when a prominent American rescue person said she saw more resource guarding in well fed dogs that in ones that had been starved. You need a crate for this girl ASAP. No food or treats to be fed outside it. You will also need to be very very careful when there is human food around. Good on you for stepping up for this girl. Her former owner must be distraught.
7. Lucky are those that don't have a dog that rolls. Lil loves to perfume herself. So far we've had: * duck and cow poo (fresh is best according to Lil) * Human poo * rotting carp * a rotting kangaroo carcass (she was inside the rib cage and rolling around happily) I have been tempted to use Biozet or one of those enzyme based detergents but have stuck to sunlight and dog shampoo
8. If its HA you're dealing with, I really do think Steve is your best bet.
9. Except then you are deliberately triggering the dog to aggress. Not something I'd recommend.
10. Ester C is considered milder on the stomach than other Vitamin C powders.
11. For aggression, there is no one in Canberra I would recommend. x 2 if we're talking about HA. Go and see K9Pro in Sydney. Best in the business. You need someone who genuinely understands and deals with aggression AND that actually gets results, especially with large and powerful dogs. He stands between such dogs and the green dream regularly. Ditch the "purely positive, clicker training" thinking for this issue. That doesn't mean you have to abuse your dog but you need to deal with a trainer who will work with a range of methods to make you and your dog safe. Steve can tell you many a story about the people who come to see him after lack of results with other trainers. Like the lady whose LGD dragged her 100m on a halti to attack another dog. The trainer said she'd be able to control her powerful aggressive dog with a "kind" halti. Riiigght. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Start doing NILIF and TOT now. I'd also suggest you start considering that the behaviour you are seeing may not be your dog "protecting" you.
12. With a really "organic" rolling agent, it can take a few washes to lose the smeil. Baby wipes are a dog owner's dream. I have a packet in the front door pocket of my car and several at home. Good for vomit, poo, wee ... all the fun stuff A friend of mine dusts her house with them. I could tell you about the time Lily, my white poodle, found HUMAN poo to roll in on a bush walk. OMG, the smell She was covered in it. My friend gagged out the window all the way home and I grabbed rubber gloves and got her into the laundry tub when I got there. I was tempted to use bleach that time [joking here]
13. What are you looking for assistance with? is there a specific issue you want addressed or is it more general training you are after?
14. Sunlight soap followed by a decent white enhancing shampoo. Oh and baby wipes to get rid of the first layer.
15. Sounds to me like you should be feeding a few immune system boosters. Consider adding Vitamin C and Manuka honey to the mix. In addition to probiotics, they may help.
16. What are you going to do with this dog? If you're looking towards "working lines" I hope obedience training and some kind of dog sport are long term activities you have planned.
17. How far are you walking a 7.5 week old pup? She's too young to be walked with an adult dog for exercise. I'd walk your older boy by himself and be sorting out the pup's antics on separate training walks (very short) only.
18. For any Irish marked "Kelpie" I'd be looking towards collie ancestry. Irish marking is common in quite a few breeds. It certainly occurs in Whippets - I have an Irish marked dog here. In a dog of Kelpie/SBT ancestry, I'd be looking at the SBT side for the origins of the irish markings.
19.

From what you've posted, it's not Esky's behaviour you have to worry about. It's the younger dog that's aggressing???
20. You could potentially be making it worse. You are not managing it effectively if it continues to occur and if your response is to "discipline" the older dog for the transgressions of the younger one. Prevent it and you won't have to manage anything. Less stress on the dogs and you and no chance of a serious dust up when the older dog has had enough of the pup and goes the preemptive strike before you discpline her for defending her food. You are fuelling pack problerms by demanding behaviour from your older dog that goes against a natural instinct and by allowing the younger dog to push the envelope.
21. Then feed them in crates. Why are you punishing the older dog for a perfectly natural response to a younger dog getting near her food? God I hate Cesar Milan sometimes.
22. Escalating frequency of aggression, low level triggers. Separate them and call in a decent trainer before they, or you, get badly hurt. The fact that you have a young male prepared to go a bitch would worry me big time.
23. Amen to that. You all look lovely. I do love a white sighthound
24. You can get coat sprays with UV protectors in them. Plush Puppy make one. I'd be worried about the muscle condition on a dog confined so much - can you build her a run?
25. Agree. You want this all sorted in case you get a visit from the ranger or the police.
