Dogue De Bordeaux / English Mastiff Puppy. New Pic's Of Kirby

I wonder if they are feeding enough - or enough of the right food. How many meals a day is she getting? At her age, I'd still have her on 4. -

Then she needs to be taught manners. If they won't be happy with it in a 50kg adult then they need to deal with it NOW. What do you mean by "pushy"? -
How would a vet know what a dog is seeing? Something's being lost in translation here but the veterinary diagnosis sounds odd. A dog that eats something off vomits. Partial paralysis, massive salilvation and violent fitting? Sounds more like a toxin to this amateur - either ingested of delivered by insect bite. Either that or a neurological issue.

So very glad he is in safe, knowledgeable hands in a home. :)

Misidentified by the pound - as so many other dog breeds are. -
A Friend Rescued A "fox T X" From Pound About A Year Ago
Salukifan replied to Tintin Jac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome to the reality that every breeder with a limited number of dogs faces. No matter how good the dog, if its no longer being used in your breeding program, only rehoming can open up a space for another dog. Some choose to keep everything, others will rehome to pet homes. Very easy to judge sitting on the outside. -

It's not about "purity" - you've got that wrong. It's about knowledge of ancestry and predicability of progeny. Pedigree breeders think the dog is better BECAUSE it has a pedigree. And not every pedigree dog by the way. If people want to breed to a code of conduct and lack knowledge, they can join, adhere to that code of conduct and gain it. But I would never suggest that the ANKC is the font of all knowledge when it comes to dog breeding or that every ANKC breeder IS knowledgeable. Perhaps more knowledgeable than some others but that's it. However you're asking the equivalent of a specialty car club to teach all car owners to drive. That's not what the ANKC is about. That's why the State Departments of Primary Industry or their equivalents are now playing in this space. Commercial dog breeding is a relatively new venture and the DPIs are weighing in on it. The State CCs have enough of a battle getting states to differentiate between large scale profit breeders and their hobby breeders without taking on the load of the occasional crossbred breeders who do not financially contribute to their running. It's ironic we're having this discussion on a forum dedicated to the promotion of purebred dogs and funded in part by their breeders. Look at the education of the general public that occurs here - including purebred dog breeders helping people that bought pups other sources. Can you give an example? -

The ANKC isn't suppressing crossbred breeding. It's suppressing its members from doing it. Membership is voluntary and given that ANKC bred pups represent 20% of those born every year, I don't see how its suppressing breeding? Don't like the rules? Don't join. Not hard really. You won't get an ANKC pedigree for what you breed? Is that "suppression"? None of the currently banned breeds are or have ever been recognised by the ANKC. BSL is a utter nonsense. But you can't blame the ANKC for its existence. it has far more to do with purebreeds than their mixes because the people who came up with it know SFA about dogs. Don't sheet that home to an organisation that does not and never has supported it. Powerlegs: The Federal Government doesn't have an agreement with the ANKC. There is no federal breed specific legisatiion beyond the placement of 4 breeds on the banned from import list. -

The breeder let them visit 1 week old pups? Any breeder in a parvo area who allowed visitors to unvaccinated pups is an idiot. I don't buy the "allowed six week old pup out because of parvo" one iota. Those pups had bugger all immunity from Mum and same from the vaccination at that age. However, done is done. CTRW is right - TRAIN this pup. She's going to be a big girl. Not jumping on people and leash manners will be essential. They need to start now. Push the "don't over exercise the pup" message too. -
Sometimes you have to weigh up quality of life vs quantity. I have a dog here with a disc issue. Throwing toys for him is out (except for retrieves from water) but otherwise he lives a normal life. He does get regular chiropractic adjustments and bowen therapy - both of which I'd recommend. If you want another dog, I'd go for MUCH smaller dog - a toy breed. Perhaps a Pug? This will give company and the opportunity for play with minimal risk of injury.

MM: Care to provide an example of a Kennel Control ruling beyond its boundaries? The ANKC has been openly against BSL from the get go and continues to hold that line. The fact that an organisation established in the interests of purebred dog breeding and registration is not in favour of crossbreeding should be a no brainer. Nonetheless has plenty of members wo neither breed, nor own purebred dogs via its Associate register and thought its CC affiliated dog training clubs has done a lot for dog training ordinary pet owners throughout Australia. Frankly I have no idea what you're on about with all these "rulings". What rulings? -

Diet will be extremely important to such a big pup (although Dogues are not as large as some folk seem think so her size may not be giant). See what the BM, Dogue and Mastiff folk feed. She will need to be kept lean and grown slowly with a full chance to mature before desexing. I'd be worried about hips too. -

Let me guess. The Labrador is an undesexed male? My honest advice is to cease contact with this person ASAP. -
Help Please, Swollen Penis. Keeps Getting Stuck Out
Salukifan replied to Remarkabull's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is part of the process that sees dogs "tie" when they mate. The bulbous gland of the penis becomes engorged with blood, swelling it so that it stays outside the sheath. I had a rather excitable young male poodle that did this. I would run tepid (not cold) water over it to encourage the blood to decrease, resulting in the swelling also decreasing. Desexing won't fix it. Best to learn to deal with it yourself and as soon as possible. -

Yes. Me. I don't call it a win for dogs or against BSL. You don't want ABPTs banned. Fighting against BSL by advocating that another dog breed be banned? That's the flaw in your logic. Any line of argument, as used by the APBT people during the fight to stop BSL, that tries to put other breeds in the crosshairs, is hardly going to endear the wider dog community to the APBT side of the argument. Don't use the "we're all in this together" argument while shoving other breeds into the spotlight for targetting. That's illogical too. It's also bloody unfair. -
I also vote no. I love my dogs and will mourn their passing but I don't think my employer should have to give me special leave for that.

None of the Kelpies discussed so far in this thread are ever alone. They have canine company.

Perhaps you might like to stick to dispensing advice for a breed that you have actually had something to do with. Perhaps you should be less rude. I was being helpful and have experience with deaf Staffords and know it does happen. Have a nice day :) No one is denying it happens. However the way you post suggests that it happens a lot. SBT people say it doesn't. Very confusing and worrying for the breeder of these pups don't you think? Just out of interest, how many is the "plenty" of deaf White Staffords you have encountered? Are you sure you don't mean Bull Terriers?

Sorry, but I cannot think of a breed that could meet these requirements. I think you want an angel, not a dog  If you want a people focussed, loyal and responsive dog, it won't want to spend a lot of time by itself. Fine for working hours (God knows we all have to do those) but you need to make room in your life for a dog. Barking and biting are partly about breed but frankly a lot more about how much socialisation, physical and mental stimulation a dog gets. A dog that spends a lot of time alone, outside, won't get that. Any working breed with prey drive (like a GSD) that is not well socialised and managed with small animals and livestock may exhibit that prey drive in ways you will not like. The more time the dog spends outside without human supervision, the more chance it will hve to exercise that drive. And if its the kind of dog that can think for itself, it will be even better equiped to amuse itself in ways dogs enjoy. If you are not prepared to put a lot of time and effort into socialising and training a dog AND spending time with it, I'd not recommend a GSD, any dog like a GSD or indeed any dog at all. Sorry, but that's the reality of being a responsible dog owner and of having a happy dog. Perhaps I'm missing something from your listed characteristics but this sounds like a bit of a disaster to me.

I have ordered a small bag for the younger Whippets to try. I know Dodger will eat it (he's a Labrador on the inside ) but Howie will be the test - he is DEAD fussy. For purely scientific purposes, Ted the crumbly poodle will be given a piece to see how he goes. :)

I think the first question to ask was "was there any money paid". One less than remote possibility is that the person who "rescued" the dog (ie first owner) is the one that let her get into this state.
