Keep trying to get through to her, I don't know anything about whippets except what has been said on here, but $950 for an unpapered dog is crazy I paid $850 for my English Springer Spaniel (working line) and $1200 for our Lab both of them registered pedigrees. Good luck in persuading her.

Yeah its hard to tell, no visible blood but possibly some underneath all the fur, hard to see on a dark dog, will certianly keep an eye on any signs of infections/swelling.

Yes it was great the ranger got onto it straight away as this was around 6-6.30pm when he was contacted. DIL ( yes daughter in law ) was still very shaken up, was in tears when she got back here (they live with us). Hopefully she isnt too scared now.

This afternnon about 5pm my future DIL was out walking Dexter ( 10mth old Lab) she was on the opposite side of the road to a house as this other dog a (GSD) always carries on at the fence, jumping up and looking over it at anyone who walks past. She saw the owner open the gates to take the garbage bin out, and the dog charged accross the street at them almost getting hit by a car in the process, Dexter sat and kinda leaned into DIL legs the dog grabbed him around the throat meanwhile DIL is screaming 'get your f*** in dog' the guy dissapears into the house, another dog walker was close by he yelled at the dog and it backed away still growling ect then took off back into the yard, the owner then closes the gate. Dexter is fine, no visible wounds but DIL was very shaken up by the time they got back home. We were going to wait and report it tomorrow but ended up going into the police station, they said it was a matter for the council ranger as DIL wasnt bitten and Dexter was ok. They officer rang the ranger with our details then the ranger rang on our way back home. He went straight around to the house then called back to say they will be investigating it further as the owner said " he went back into get a lead as he can't control the dog without one" then said he thought DIL had gone thats why he didnt even bother to check they were ok, but she saw him close the gate when the dog went back in. The owner wanted our details of course the Ranger didnt give them to him, siad it will be a minimum $550 fine or could even go to court. The owner obviously has problems controlling the dog, why would he be such an idiot to let it out the gate It would of been a different story with a smaller dog or one that would of reacted to being grabbed like that, poor Dexter was just in shock and froze. This come on top of another friend having her toy poodle attacked while out walking last week ( in Qld), dog broke through a fence to get them, he ended up having surgery. I'm not sure if she has reported this as the owners of that dog drove her to the vet then home so is worried they know where she lives ( they did pay the vet bill) but I bet its not the first time its happened and will happen again. One thing Im kinda glad about is that my son is away working for a couple of days as he would of been on the doorstep and I dont think things would of been pleasent. I also hope Dexter isnt too scared now of other dogs especially GSD

The Dog Unit welcomed seven new English Springer Spaniel puppies on Thursday 28 June 2012 and began the ‘Puppy Poll’ on their Facebook page on Monday 16 July 2012 to choose names for the puppies. More than 10,600 votes were tallied, and the three female and four male puppies were officially named during a special celebration at the Dog Unit at Menai today (Wednesday 22 August 2012). Keeping with Dog Unit tradition, the dog’s names all start with the letter ‘A’, as they are the first litter of their breed born into the unit’s breeding program and known as the ‘A’ litter. The male puppies will now be known as Alpha, Arrow, Aero and Alfie and the female puppies will be known as Ava, Autumn and Annie. NSW Police Dog Unit Commander, Superintendent Mick Goodwin, said the response by Facebook friends was overwhelming. “Facebook has proven to be a great way for us to engage with the community and the response to our puppy poll is incredible,” Superintendent Goodwin said. “It is great to be able to allow members of the public to see what we do and get involved in the process. It’s also a way for us to thank everyone who supports the work we do.” It is anticipated the puppies will be trained in drug, explosive or cadaver detection, and follow in the footsteps of their parents. Mother ‘Bronte,’ is a cadaver detection dog and father ‘Micky’, is an explosive detection dog. “We will keep the puppies here at the Dog Unit with their mum for another four to five weeks,” Superintendent Goodwin said. “They will then be fostered out to specialised puppy raisers until they are old enough to begin the detection training program. “Successful recruits will either be sworn into the NSW Police Force Dog Unit or will go to work for another police force or law enforcement agency.” The NSW Police Force Dog Unit was formed in 1932, but disbanded in 1954 before commencing modern day operations in 1979. It is the largest police dog unit in Australia and its canine police officers include German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Labradors and English Springer Spaniels. The Dog Unit’s breeding program has been running since 2006, and has bred 16 litters of German Shepherd pups, one litter of Labrador pups and now one litter of English Springer Spaniels. Good news, and I hope it heals well this time.

All animals and wounds heal different, they most likely will leave it open now and allow it to heal. My OH had a mole removed which opened up two days after stitches removed, it took a while to heal. Hopefully if the vet ends up charging you for any extra treatment they will allow you to pay later. My girl is sporting some stitches at the moment after an accident on Tuesday ( ran head first into the box trailer whilst chasing a ball, hubby kicked it too close to it ). It seems to be going good so far, she hasn't tried to rub/ scratch them yet but once they start to heal they can get itchy.

Thinking of you, I hope they will be ok.

They said possible concussion, he's asleep now, just need to clean the eye with some salty water the next few days. Bella must of had her mouth open during the grab for the ball, she seems fine though, it's not always the little ones that come of worse she's about 15kg and hes 27kg.

Whilst chashing a soccer ball this arvo our ESS (working) and my son's 8 1/2 mth old Lab had a head clash. Who do you think came off 2nd best? They both yelped and were stunned for a few seconds. Dexter the lab has ended up with a bit of a tooth mark on his chin, but after a half hr or so he vomited and now his snout looks a bit swollen so he's at the vet now with my son. So far Bella seems fine even though her head is about half his size, hopefully its nothing too serious and he just has a headache. I guess dogs get concussed like us, so when he vomited (nothing to eat since breakfast) we decided a vet visit was in order. Back from the vet...........they also found he had a tooth go into his bottom eyelid , all cleaned out and given a pain killer. Now just hope theres no infection.

Wow 24! My ESS (field) girl was one of 9, one of her sister's had 13. Thats a lot for a 15-16kg little girl. I had enough trouble carrying around 1 at a time :laugh:

When we were looking for a new dog after out old ESS passed we looked at a WSS as I love the 'joyful, playful, overexcited' side of springers but one thing about the Welsh SS that kinda put us off when we read about them was the need to be around the 'family' all the time. This may be just a part of your boy's makeup. Remember he is still a baby, perhaps ring his breeder they should be able to help. We went with another ESS (field this time). As for another dog if you do decide to get one go through a Rescue org, as they can help you more with finding a good fit and you can do a trial period, rather than just getting one via the pound.

Some people make me so mad With Bella for a name maybe they couldnt even tell he was a boy. Hope you get some sleep tonite :) Im sure he will find a much better home now.

We use a mini otto bin we got from Go-lo. I guess they're not airtight but certianly big enough, I fit 15kgs in with room to spare. They cost me 2 for $30 a couple of months ago, use them for lots of things, kids toys ect, and come in nice colours.

The change in them is amazing, goes to show what some proper food and TLC can do
