  1. I'm the early Bunny , I'm lucky the late arrivals do hang around and pack up
  2. I want to know why "desensitisation" is viewed as such a bad thing or a no no ? Not being emotionally involved and being capable staying detached, can be very valuable in a career and not just vet medicine. It doesn't mean that you are cruel or do not act in best interests of the animals that present in your surgery. If you aren't desensitised to a degree, every surgery, euthanasia and bad experience, would compound to the point where it would become a job that you no longer wished to do
  3. I'd call it a knock off and not a pinch on the real thing. They set out to improve on the health etc of the British Bulldog and failed. Tell the DR to look for a well bred British from an ANKC registered breeder
  4. appeal to the better nature of the ranger and hope to dog that they will not fine the previous owner for failing to change the chip over. A stat dec to say when and where the dogs were rehomed to may be accepted by the ranger, but then again it's also an admission of guilt and failing to do what was required. The current owners should be fined for the offleash offence and the littering. I know of one person who has been fined for failing to do a change of ownership, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear if the council in question makes an example out of the old owner and they cop the lot.
  5. There's the problem right there. It is up to the current owner of any dog that they sell or giveaway to make sure that they have the new owners complete a C3A form and that they submitt it to their council for processing. They can be fined for failing to do so. ETA: as an example.... xxx breeds a pup and sells it to me, it's upto xxx to make sure that the change of ownership is completed and sent to council and that the new owner has recieved their paperwork... if I then decide to sell the pup that xxx bred, it's upto me to get the new owner to complete a change of ownership ( within 14 days ) and for me to send it off to council
  6. Clearly we are soul mates RSG I believe so and rumour has it you don't mind Sighthounds either
  7. Why? People say - gee I hated such and such a movie or an ad for the following reasons. Why on earth cant they say they cant stand a tv show? Exactly. I'm sure if it was a TV show about breeding dogs which portrayed breeding in a completely unrealistic way, there would be a lot of negativity. I will complain because it's my industry and a false representation of how things actually happen. Yes, most of us here probably know better, but a lot of people out there don't . You are spot on
  8. People who whinge cheese me off... Seriously folks the only thing worth whinging about or that could be a life and death situation, is the absence of " the good" coffee van
  9. Mine aren't large but I have nine medium dogs and bitches. Food, I mainly feed raw, buy in bulk and store in a dedicated dog freezer, I buy once a fortnight. Those that do have dry, I also buy in bulk. I feed premium dry and quality raw foods and find that in the long run, you feed less , spend less and the dogs look a million dollars on it. I don't feed a lot of supplements, I keep a couple of items that includes an Omega 3/6/9 oil and Thrive D, both I buy in bulk. Vet bills are costly but it's rare that we see a vet apart from breeding related issues. I've only had one go to the vet this year for anything, non breeding related. I put the amount of vet care required down to excellent breeding, being fed a quality diet and exercised daily. I don't vaccinate yearly ( not a decision based on money ) but when I do choose to vaccinate I take the dogs in at the same time, as it is cheaper to do it that way. I buy all wormers in jars of 100. Bedding, consists of tramp beds outside for day use, my bed and crates at night. I make all of my bedding that goes in the crates and the trailer. Walking , legally I can only take 4 at a time. I walk three adults each night together, run two in the leash free each day and the younger pups get their daily lead training and short walk down to the park and back. When I swim the dodgs, I take them all, except for the Whippets. If we are preparing for a big specialty show, my OH runs dogs off the bike once or twice a week each, to give me a hand.
  10. Nothing really worries me. I listen to the positives and the negatives and I especially appreciate the small things that people notice, especially of they can give a hand to correct them. I appreciate what other people see from outside the ring, it's a whole different ball game, when you are on the end of the lead and it's easier for someone standing on the outside to see the good and the bad. I also don't get offended when people dislike my dogs, I understand that not every dog is everyone's cup of tea. I'm also the harshest judge of my own dogs, I'm well aware of their faults and can pretty much guarantee if someone else picks it, I already know about it. I like to have conversations with honest dog people, who will say to you " i like this, I don;t like that, the dog has a great whatever, the dog has". Sadly there are a lot of people who get on the defensive, I think they miss many an opportunity to learn about their own dogs and to improve how they handle.
  11. For me it's over kill. If the pup shows no interest in them, then leave the collar off while you are there to supervise and put it on if you go out and have doubts.
  12. i've never used one and haven't had a dog or bitch chew stitches yet
  13. Congatulations Jenn, Julie and Robbie
  14. Just coz they are vets doesn't mean they aren't dumb! I have gone to a couple of vets and left shaking my head at some of the things they have said to me! Luckily I know enough to get a second opinion. As for Bondi Vet, I have never watched it so can't comment You can have all the brains in the world, graduate top of your class, but it's your tableside manner that counts.
  15. I Don't you don't what, watch or despise? watch
  16. Yep same goes here, babies start on adult dry at 8/9 weeks and my only rule is that I feed all meat on consumable bone.
  17. You've got to love the cries of " you don't like him because of the way he looks " no, I dislike him, because he's an idiot
  18. Dr Harry is ugly and I reserve a special dislike for him too
  19. nahhh, my old vet was super hot, had a brain that functioned, some common sense and knew how to treat an animal. I'm mean to any vet, hot or ugly if they act like a numpty
  20. And of how he looks riding a surfboard and running on the beach. No he didnt address the issue - he just made it all squeeee worthy. The worst segment was the poor little chi who looked like he'd been razzed up and nawww how cute that a big brave vet gets bitten by a little dog. It was totally disgusting. Poor little dog - and we're down on rabies vax at the moment so I hope the chi is OK ;)
  21. geeez, they'd be horrified by my 8 LOL ETA: I make up for it, with only one having bred one child
  22. exactly, but it appears that many are happy to let anything go through, as it doesn't impact on them. there will come a day when breeders will not be able to make any decisions, they will have no choices, as all of the options will have been taken away from them.
  23. Anyone want to take bets on how soon a breeder will be busted for it ? I can picture them now, bursting into the home of a breeder with pups less than a week old and taking them.
