Have You Already Picked Out Breed/name For Your Next One?

Rebanne I love the slender dogs when they're pregnant. They seem to be saying " does my belly look big with all this stuff?" -
Have You Already Picked Out Breed/name For Your Next One?

I would love another large scruffer but OH prefers bulldogs. After the present one I will have to think carefully about a rescue again. There only so many issues I can deal with. In order we have had Eric, Gus and Hank, I somehow ran through the alphabet and got to a j with four letters and came up with Jake when I'd only seen his rescue photo. When I met him it completely suited him, when he's naughty he gets "Jacob!" After seeing sleepy hollow I did wish I had called him Ichabod. So the next dog will be rescue or recycled in some way, breed may be bulldog or not. Name will be four letter starting with either k or something later in the alphabet. -
Makes me want to run with them!

No, it's just at my age I was a bit slow to roll out the carpet. This winter we just have a special place on the lounge carpet that he can go. Much easier for everyone.????
-
Yea, that's because I haven't put out the carpet so his feet will get wet when he pees. Poor snookums.

Actually if you want pink. Oh good idea hadn't thought of bejazzeling, also might add some of those flashing lights, adorable.

Vent: Why Do People Get A Pup Without Really Thinking It Over
hankdog replied to Scottsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have so many oodles around here I can pick them better than the purebreds! Ex neighbours had a dog that came from rescue, they admitted to being rubbish owners but justified it because " she was a rescue dog anyway." -

I check rescue websites for bulldogs but after two years I don't think he would remember her. Some of the behaviourists we have seen say I should have got him another friend straight away. I think it would have been tricky though, if we had a "normal" dog and Jake he might not stand the comparison well. His buddy was a pug frenchie cross and the dogs he's better with tend to be smaller, brown female bull breeds so there might be a bit of a memory there. Strange dog he is a friend of mine has a litter of puppies I've been visiting. Initially he was very freaked out when I came home but today he couldn't get enough of me. I thought I smelt a bit icky so went for a shower. He was all over my trackie pants, shoving his nose in and grunting and snorting. Weird dog. I'm loving the Digby photos, I'm going to think of him whenever I get an ice cream cone. -

No apology necessary, Jake was separated from his mate in the pound. It makes me sad to my heart. I do feel for Del. You will have to become that mommy that throws parties to make friends for her kid. -
I've actually done all three. With previous dogs I've gone to training club and learned a lot plus the dig learns to work under distraction. With my present dog I've gone to private sessions at a few different trainers. My present trainer and I both work with Jake as well as her training me. The place I go does a lot of boarding training. Jake had to go into kennels whilst I went away and he got training as well. He did improve and he also formed a bond with my trainer, he now wags his tail and goes of his own accord to greet her. So I think there is a lot of variability out there in training schools and boarding establishments but I actually do think it can work. Has with my dog and I would have been staunchly in the camp that wouldn't have supported boarding training. He is definitely a power breed????.

With everything else about Digby being sad that's just more sad. I really can't think of anything except going to obedience classes and at least that keeps her vaguely in contact with other dogs. -

I just love how playful he is on lower meds but I just can't manage the rest of it. My son showed me footage of him crying when I went shopping. Just awful. -
That's exactly what Jake does, he climbs in bed and has to put his head under my chin. I think he must be being attacked by gangsta rabbits. Good to know other dogs do this too.

I'm sorry to hear you're unwell. I hope Justice is taking good care of you. It's a pity about the beaches. I've taken Jake once or twice to "people" beaches at night in summer and he loves it. Sydney's few dog beaches are off leash 24/7 too. I so wish there was an on leash beach. I remember you had some great photos of Justice in the Autumn leaves off leash. I think it pays to be cautious with any unknown dog but I'm so inspired by Justice success. -
He is crate trained and happy to pop in and out as he wants to, not happy to be closed in though. The nightmares are new. I did try lowering his meds but his anxiety rockets just dropping by 5 mg. "Stuff" is real to Jake, he can decide that a certain area is not to be walked on and then it's game on to get him there, although I think he's one of those drama queen type dogs. His reactions are loud and explosive, he's a "colorful" character. I just sometimes lose what's "normal" for dogs hence my question.

My Jake is a seven year old bulldog cross. A rescue to me two years ago, anxiety issues, dog aggressive and medicated on Prozac. He is an active sleeper, twitching and running and snoring of course. He's been thyroid tested and all his bloods were normal. Just lately he's started having nightmares. He wakes up crying and upset. He will come paw me and wake me up for comfort. Last night he started barking, I turned on the light and he was standing barking at the wall, he startled and took off but when his feet hit the wooden hallway floor he seemed to wake up. He stopped and looked confused then jumped in bed and cuddled up and went back to sleep. Do other dogs have such active dreams?

Wow, I thought reactive dogs were always a work in progress. Sounds like Justice is all done. Daycare and off leash training classes is truly amazing. Well done! -
Maybe should be a freestyle trick for bonus marks!

Hahs that's a Stan like greyhound clearly.

Happy birthday Hank.

Yea I live how much fun low dose Prozac Jake is. Today he unpacked and played with all the craft cupboard stuff while I was out. I came home and played a great game of couch to couch jumping and bitey face. Unfortunately while I was out he was apparently really upset and crazy Jake also sees ghost dogs on our walks. So back up to full dose. It's actually just a quarter tablet, 5 mg that makes a difference.
