  1. I've only ever given my pups the C3 and it is all I will give them. I give one at 6 weeks and one at 12 - not a third. I would also be quite comfortable taking the pup out at 14 weeks and think the benefits of socialisation far outweigh the risk of contracting a disease. The vaccination should well and truly kicked in by then.
  2. I was excited at finding the best ID tags ever. It just took me nearly 40 years to do so.
  3. As the ANKC has absolutely no control over dogzonline which is a private business I don't see how they can dictate what is shown or not shown on the website. It is no different to paying for an advert in the canine association magazine. Should all people be cropped out of those ads as well? Not even sure why the VCA would consider sending this to the ANKC
  4. My dogs really like the VAN complete mix. I bought some of the rolls (and entered the competition for the food which you won---- but obviously I did not win that) BUT I was disappointed with the new rolls as they did not last until the use by date. They had at least 2 weeks to go and one was off the other borderline so. Too expensive tp run that risk so i'll not be buying them again.
  5. All my litters over 35 years of breeding were whelped and raised outside. Their home is a 3.5x 3.5 metre garden shed fully insulated and with power. The temperature varies but is generally well maintained with heating and cooling - actually the cooling is the hardest. Outside their shed is a large puppy run which has many stimuli in for the education and amusement of the pups. Shade from an overhead creeper and natural sun available to at least half of the run. Apart from virtually overnight there is constant coming and going by a variety of people, from quite young to the other extreme and some of those are regulars some casual visitors. At about 6 weeks of age individual pups will be brought inside for relatively short periods of time in order to get them used to a different environment. In the vast magority of cases the pups settle into their new home environment very quickly and very rarely is there any trouble with tiolet training as long as the owners are vigilent. Airedale Terriers are what I consider overall to be an easy breed to tiolet train though. Whelping and raising a ltter inside was never an option for me and looking back to my childhood many years ago we often had farm dogs that raised happy and healthy litters either under our house or in the barn without any human intervention. Sometimes I think we have made our dogs far too soft by our attachment and our desire to inflict human emotions on an animal that is in most cases perfectly capable of looking after itself in these matters.
  6. LOL I can remember doing that BUT I can also go back to the days when we typed up stencils and then duplicated them on the Gestetner machine then collated and stapled by hand. Someone always complained that they had 2 pages the same or one upside down or whatever. Also no photos available. The upshot was that there was a group of members who put the magazine together. Now it is one person. Waaay back in the '70's when I did our first 2 Year Books I collected all the information typed or wrote on a mock page and sent it off to the printer who set it all and printed it. This time I did all and the printer simply printed from my file. The times sure have changed.
  7. Hi MRB, I have a pdf converter and basically I do the same as you by producing our quarterly magazine in Publisher. However, I then convert it and have been taking it to Snap to print from the pdf. I use PDF Create Assistant I think it cost me about $50 to buy. I do our magazine in A4 size. I agree with you re Word. I could not produce the magazine in Word for love or money. Word to me is fine if you simply want to type and maybe add a photo but trying to place things and move them around is impossible for me! Cheers S
  8. Hi All, Well a month down the road from my first request for recommendations for a printer to print our Club book I am delighted to say I found one local to me and very very reasonably priced. One does have to wonder though I asked 6 printeres for quotes. One gave me a quote on the spot, 2 others within 24 hours another one week later (one of the suggested ones on here) and then tried to bully me into accepting their quote. They, like the others had been told we had a meeting to discuss this on a certain date and their uote was 5 days after that date. The otehr 2 I have not heard from again. So, back to the printer that is doing the job. He had no problem with a Publisher file although he did say it was not his favourite program but as I was supplying a pdf it should not be an issue. There was a slight problem with the conversion to the pdf so they opened the publisher file and corrected it. I'm the first to admit that Publisher has limitations BUT no one has been able to suggest an alternative that does not cost a fortune. I'm not going out to spend heaps of money to buy and learn and I am not going to buy a professional program. That would be an overkill. Anyhow the upshot of it all is that the book will be ready this week and will be a most valuable resource for our breed. Cheers SueH
  9. Thanks Dragonlady, I did not realise it was that long ago. how time flies! Cheers SueH
  10. Hi All, Is anyone able to tell me what year Best in Group & runner Up in Group were replaced with Group 1st, 2nd etc. at Melbourne Royal please. Many thanks SueH
  11. Me too. Can't count the number we lost before using engraved tags. this is exactly why I changed to the Boomerang Tags. No more tags rattling or coming off.
  12. I'm with Juice. My dogs much prefer to be outside at night, they get too hot inside. The dogs never get on beds or furniture in our household and everyone is very happy with these arrangements.
  13. Hi Everyone, I have been asked to enquire here to see if there is anyone who does agility that would be interested in coming along to our Club Day for an hour or so to show our members a little bit about agility. Unfortunately it may not be possible for you to bring your own dog (that can be investigated) but we will have some non competition standard equipment (tunnel, poles, bar jump probably) and would like to give members the opportunity to have some fun with it. the venue will be in the Yarra Valley date 25th November. If anyone is interested could you please contact me and we can sort something out. Regards Sue Henderson Assistant Secretary Airedale Terrier Club of Vic.
  14. Its a pity they closed so early. I know 3 people who entered and had there entries returned and the club lost about $250.00 in entries With all due respect and I know some will shout at me for this BUT I honestly beoieve it is time more entries closed on time. One either makes a decision to enter or not on the information they have to hand at the time entries close. If they do not know work rosters or other factors by then so be it, that is a show you miss. Clubs may miss out on some entries but the workers are probably spared that in grief. It is not as though there is a very few shows to attend if one weekend is missed there is always another - at least in Victoria. JMO
  15. Perhaps the organisers/workers have other committment that need to be met and this is the time frame that works for them. Exhibitors in many cases seem to think that the workers should work on the exhibitors time frame instead of the other way around.
  16. Sheridan, I did not think my post was offensive in any way my apologies if you found it so. Any help is appreciated. Sue
  17. Sheridan, all of your points have been covered in my planning. I have a sample of the type of book we want to publish but am open to suggestions from the professionals and will be guided by them. Unfortunately I know that most printers do not like Publisher but it is what I know and have and unfortunately I've not been able to readily access another program that is any better. Given that I am not about to spend a lot of $'ss on a program or on learning how to use it. I produce a more than adequate quarterly magazine using Publisher and it is printed by Snap who are quite happy with what I present them. I have been given a couple of options here for printers which I will follow up. You may know what it is like to put something like this before a Committee for acceptance. Everyone knows a better way but no one wants to do the work. Hence my attempt to have quotes from off set printers as well as digital ones. Many thanks to all who have contributed to my request. Sue
  18. Thanks Iluvamstaffs I'll check both out. Sue
  19. It will be an A5 publication. Approximately 175 pages probably gloss with soft cover. Colour is our preference but it will depend on cost. I will have the material in PDF format (I'm using Publiher to put it together) and most if not all the photos (about 300 of them) will have been professionally worked to give best quality etc. I'm hoping all will be ready for the printer by the end of this month or early in November. SueH
  20. I put a post in "Off Topic" for you Airedaler. :) Thanks LizT
  21. Thanks Bundyburger, Snap @ Rowville do our quarterly magazine and I will have a quote from them but I need some others as well. There are also various other "instant printers" in the area but I would like to talk to a conventional printer as well. It may be that they will suggest I use the instant printers, just covering my options to get the best product possible. I guess I have a way to go before I can post in Off Topic - should have kept my old ID S
  22. Hi All, I am in the process of putting together a Year Book for our club. It is at the stage that I need to find some printers to obtain quotes for the printing etc.. Does anyone know of a reliable and reasonably priced printer preferably in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne? The book will only be a short run - a maximum of 150 copies I would imagine. Thanks in anticipation SueH
  23. I cannot tell you where to buy bags but if you are able to find an old trampoline mat these make super covers for the hammock beds when attached to the frame. I was buying hessian bags every few weeks as my dogs destroyed them but have had the trampoline mat on the beds now of 6 months and they are still as good as when first put on.
