  1. Assuming this is a joint pain/arthritis issue I had great success with a magnetic collar and dog coat for one of my oldies. It really gave them a new lease of life. Maybe worth a try.
  2. Thanks doglady and SwaY, I'll have a closer look at them.
  3. I've never had a singleton litter but have had a couple of just 2. They have been delivered naturally by the bitch and had no issues with the raising except them not being able to keep up with the milk supply so the risk/chance of mum developing mastitis is greater. I do know of many breeders though that almost routinely do a C-section if only expecting one or two but IMO this is because they just assume the bitch will not go into labour naturally.
  4. Woolworths sell goat milk, both in the fresh milk section and in long life form. At least in my local Wollies in Victoria
  5. Hi All, I'm looking to purchase a microchip scanner and am interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with the Halo Microchip Scanner. It seems to be a very reasonably priced scanner suitable for use with Australian chips and also with a secondary function to recognise a chip in an animal that has been reported stolen, although this facility at this time is only available in the UK. My main reason for purchasing is not this feature but scanning of puppies. Any comments on your experiences with this scanner would be appreciated.
  6. She will be fine. Most dogs are much more resilient than their owneres think. All you can do is provide the shelter -- the old addage you can lead a horse to water but not make it drink comes to mind
  7. I had my boy done at about 7 the sac was not removed and it fairly quickly shrunk to being almost not there at all. I believe the main reason the desexing is done this way is that if they were to remover the sac there would be a much larger wound. By leaving it they can just make an incision and pop out the testicles and healing is quicker and easier on the dog. My boy's sac was swollen for a few days but reduced quickly. pain relief was given during recovery though. His recovery from the surgery was very quick, less than an hour after he was home he was doing what he always does. We did confine him for a day or so to keep him quieter.
  8. Years ago my vet told me when my dogs reached 8 not to bother vaccinating as they were no longer going to shows etc. This was when we routinely vaccinated every year. Now days I, like many others seem to, I only use a C3 for my puppies and have not done them after the 15 month booster.
  9. There is a difference between looking after one's dogs welfare and humanising them. Some people have dogs and treat them like little human babies, dressing them up, never leaving them to do their own thing etc. to me this is not looking after their welfare but in many cases borders on a form of abuse. Everyone has their level of concern and everyone has the right to that. I would not think that a cooling vest was over the top in the weather we have been having though. We mix in circles of people who are all of a like mind so as a rule we would not expect what others consider over the top treatment to be anything but normal. Equally the footy crowd are of a like mind and people here obviously from comments think they are of an odd ilk.
  10. This is a classic example of one of the really crappy things about the dog world! People making incorrect statements about other people without checking their facts first. Tania has every right to have a good laugh about it. It's beyond my comprehension why that should cost her votes in the election. Or perhaps there is more to this than a simple case of mistaken identity. Are dirty tactics coming into play here? Very easy for people to come on to forums such as this & hide behind their user names & make false & unwarranted statements about the candidates for election. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No more than a genuine case of mistaken identy on my part and you are right I should have checked my facts. However, you have just fallen into your own "crappy thing" of the dog world by the suggestion that others are using dirty tactics without you checking your facts first. I don't know Odins Warrior and have not colluded with her/him to partake in dirty tactics and I think that her/his post was purely as she/he felt that my comment that I stood corrected had been rejected. But then again maybe I should check my facts.
  11. Somewhat off topic but just reading through the Feb VicDog and note that the person who submitted the motion this thread is/was about has recently received a reprimand for breaching Regulations 20.1.2 and 20.1.3 20.1.2 A members shall not engage in any behaviour that is contrary to the standards accepted by the community 20.1.3 A member shall display good sportsmanship and conduct at all times so as to reflect credit upon themselves, the ANKC and the Victorian Canine Association Inc. A bit of a worry when the Vice President of an organisation is in breach of these basic regulations IMO.
  12. Pardon my ignorance but are these real deer antlers? If so could you contact the Deer Hunters Association and see if you can get some from one of their hunters?
  13. Mathilda's Mum said: As I type this message I am currently on the phone to Tania Kirkland who is falling about laughing at your misinformation. There must have been an imposter in the office at the times you state you were in there as Tania has NOT worked for Dogs Victoria since July 2008. I can also confirm this fact as I took over her job when she left. Tania would like to know if you actually know her & if so why are you stating that she was working in the Office last year & on other ocassions since 2008 when she clearly wasn't? My apologies, a case of mistaken identity. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. No offense intended to anyone.
  14. Well that's why people need to vote! Only 1 of the 9 candidates up for election is a returning committee member. Georgina Beach Tania Kirkland Emma Duff Frank Valastro Sheryl Pretty Jan Robinson David Veless Gwenda Carr Stephen Sapsead 2 of these candidates work in the VCA Office. I'm not sure that is a good combination. That's not correct. NONE of the candidates work in the Office. If you are referring to Tania Kirkland & Emma Duff they are longer employees of DOGS Victoria. Tania Kirkland resigned from her position in 2008 & Emma Duff left in October 2012. these are the two I was referring to. Did not know Emma Duff had resigned and I stand corrected. Tania Kirkland was working in the VCA office in June/July last year when I was in there and I have seen her working there on several ocassions since 2008. If she too is indeed no longer working there then again I stand corrected.

  16. You can change your settings so that you read your Oz Show postings from the webpage and they do not come into your mail box. Much easier than sifting through heaps of mails and if on digest then no problem with downloads.
  17. Not something I would do but I agree with lilli when she says leave other people and their dgs alone.... You do not know the circumstances nor do you know the facts you have hearsay that it is there every day. And you are making assumptions about the character of the people in the area.
  18. I cannot understand why people feel guilty about kicking the dogs off their beds. To me this is asserting your authority. Rightly or wrongly IMO even allowing the dogs on your beds is giving them equal status to you. However each to their own.
  19. It is unfortunate the breeder is not responding to your correspondence and this does make it hard. In placing older dogs I would always work on a two week trial basis. For both parties! I think 2 weeks is long enough for the dog to have at least shown signs of adjusting. I would definitely be sending the dog back, it has been sent to you as being something it clearly is not and you should not have to put in extra work, time and money to maybe never achieve what you wanted and asked for. I would continue to try and contact the breeder, can you check the details either online, website, perhaps contact the canine controlling body in the relevent state to check details etc? If they are correct then try ringing at what we would usually consider unacceptable times, ie later or earlier than we like to get calls. Do you have a home number or only a mobile? Can you look up a home number if you don't have it? Good luck.
  20. The club is suppossed to keep all the paperwork from a show for 7 years I think. And why does the VCA not have a marked catalogue? All clubs have to send them in and again I would have thought they should keep them for at least 7 years. I bet the VCA have a catalogue, just not in the office and if you have seen the archives where the old catalogues are kept you would wonder why clubs bother to send them in to the VCA. They would be better holding on to them and protecting the information.
  21. I bred my first litter in 1975. we had bought our bitch as a pet and joined our breed club. The support offered to us by our breeder as well as other long term breeders and exhibitors was nothing short of amazing. the encouragement to show and to have a litterfrom our pet was overwhelming. In this day and age, if many people (not necessarily in my breed) had their way we would have not been sold an entire animal and would have been told in no uncertain terms what we should and should not do. From our first litter there were 2 Champions produced and all 11 pups lived long and healthy and happy lives. I went on to become a life member of my breed club and still carry out high profile tasks on the committee. Over a period of 30 years I bred 20 litters so was not exactly a high volume breeder but more or less only bred when i wanted something to carry on with. I showed spasmodically over the years and did some obedience work. I imported both dogs and semen from overseas during my breeding time both with mixed success. I stopped breeding in 2005 largely due to the ban on docking amd the other constraints being put on breeders by so called authorities. To me it is a package deal, I do what I can for the promotion and welfare of the breed and the club and in return i get the satisfaction of enjoying the breed as a whole and making many friends from overseas who also have an interest in the breed.
  22. Thanks to all who answered. Much appreciated.
  23. this has nothing to do with the topic being discussed. It is another matter all together.
