Prog Test After Matings, Would You Bother?
Airedaler replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in Breeders Community
In some cases it is definitely worth follow up prog tests. A bitch was recently mated to a dog I bred. Her first prog test was low and the vet anticipated she would be ready to mate in about 48 hours. Over several days she was mated 5 (yes 5) times all with her very happy to stand and good ties obtained. she was taken back to the vet for another prog test and it was in fact lower than the original one. She has since had another 2 ties and another prog test for which the results are not yet back. On the results if we had not had the second test after the sucsessful matings we would have missed out. So for what it is worth i believe follow up prog tests can be worthwhile and should not necessarily be dismissed. -

Hi Everyone, Many thanks for your tips. Now for me to put them in place. Outside the vets may well be the most reliable place for me to succeed with this bitch as she always has to mark the territory there. Espinay I particularly like your tip re having the jar open! Is is often the small things in life that bring the great plans undone isn't it? Cheers SueH

Hi All, Any tips on how to best go about collecting a urine sample from my 11 year old girl? She is a bit stand offish at the best of times and is not inclined to pee anywhere near where someone is standing let alone go if put on a lead.... that in itself is an afront to her! :)

I've had great success with Vet's All Natural Joint formula
-
I'd try him on Vet's All Natural with some raw meat. The VAN sensitive skin variety works wonders at improving the coat. If the coat is recently clipped is this why there are chunks out if it? Alternatively it could be a flea issue. There may be a thyroid defiviency and this can lead to bare patches. Also the VAN Joint Formula will greatly help his stiffness. My 11 year old Airedale is so much better when I feed her this supplement and has plenty of energy. Routinly I have always (over 39 years of owning the breed) put all of my Airedales on the Joint formula when they get to about 10 or before if they show some mobility issues At 11 he is doing well but still should have a couple of years in him with the right diet and attention.

Where Can I Buy Agility Equipment
Airedaler replied to Airedaler's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks smisch for your reply. For various reasons I'm not interested in making the equiment myself. I figure there must be somewhere it can be purchased readily. I'll keep hunting. -
Hi Everyone, My breed club is looking to buy some agility type equipment to have at our club fun days. we do not want competition standard equipment just something that members can have a bit of fun with. Is anyone able to point me to somewhere I can purchase a range of things, preferable in Melbourne Many thanks Sue

Personally I would not use Rimadyl. A dog I bred died after a brief time on it. He had kidney function tests done prior to being administered the drug and all was fine. After one week he went into renal failure and died. The cause Rimadyl! He was not an old dog - almost 6 and had been fit and healthey all his life.

I'm a fan of the grinders as well i use one I bought in Bunnings years ago called a Medallion hobby Engraver, cost me $15 but unfortunately they no longer sell them. The came in a box with a multitude of attachments and sanding discs etc but the Dremel discs also fit them. I also bought a pair of the "parrot" type nail clippers which are much better and more substantial than the guillotine ones. Sometimes I use the clippers to cut the nail and then finish it off with the grinder.

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
Airedaler replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Of Airedale Terriers - they are untrainable and stupid. --- No, they are independant thinkers that need to see a reason for doing something they are savage I like the long haired variety better than the short Sheep coats ( an incorrect coat that is the soft undercoat and no hard wiry top coat) have waaaaaay better temperaments than the others. Sadly this from people who porport to be breed experts even though they have never had any involvement with the breed other than own them as pets! Ho hum -
Video Of A Amsterdam Dog Show In 1922
Airedaler replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
An interesting video. I'm not sure the dogs are all that different in some cases. What is different though is the grooming particularly the terriers. -
But you could go to the VCA library and source the titles awarded in the gazettes. It will not give you specific dates a title was awarded but will give you the month and year. Just takes a bit of effort on your part.
-
I have no idea.

Does Dogs NSW have a library? I'm currently checking titles for my breed over the last 20 years and am fortunate enough to be able to access all Gazettes from Victoria and other States in the VCA library. It is a time consuming task but the resource is there. Do you know any Lowchen people in Victoria that may be willing to check the VCA library? Also check with Dogs NSW if the ANKC data base for your breed is available. Some years ago I purchased (cost me $100 from memory) a list of all registrations and titles awarded for my breed. I believe there was a stop put to making these available due to some complaints but have heard in the last week or so that they may now be available again. Good luck

Sluggish & Stiff(ish) Gait - Please Help
Airedaler replied to Wobbly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe a trip to a doggy chiropractor would help. One of mine had a similar symptom and it was a pinched nerve in her neck. A couple of adjustments by the chiropractor worked wonders. -

Ankc No Longer Recognising Flyball Titles
Airedaler replied to Jumabaar's topic in General Dog Discussion
But you cannot expect a title gained under an unafilliated body to be recognised on the pedigree. That is the pitfall of participating in an activity that is not offically sanctioned. -
Ankc No Longer Recognising Flyball Titles
Airedaler replied to Jumabaar's topic in General Dog Discussion
If the ANKC is regarded so poorly by flyball people why is it so important to have an ANKC title? Many clubs exist pre afiliation with the ANKC and hold events of their own and issue titles under their own banner. Unless a flyball club or other club that caters for flyball goes through the recognised process to become ANKC afiliated then I cannot see any reason why it would be expected that the titles would be recognised by the ANKC. If there was an agreement between AFA and ANKC that has ceased to exist then that matter needs to be adressed and something worked out. I agree if the ANKC is not prepared to offer a reason as to why this agreement has ceased to exist then that is unreasonable, however, expressing opinons on this forum will not solve that issue and this is as much down to the AFA as to the ANKC. No one seems to really know the true reason for the breakdown of the previous agreement, as I recall someone at the beginnig of this thread stated that "from what they had heard on another list/forum insurance was the issue......from what I have heard in my book does not mean this is correct. The ANKC is a curious beast, as has been said, no direct contact is able to be made and it does in fact exist as an overseer. Personally I believe all state controls should be scrapped and we should all be under the admiinstrative banner of the ANKC with universal rules. But we are not. I also think it would be terrific if the ANKC promoted all dog activities but it rightly or wrongly is not set up to do that. If one interested person cannot get a response from Dogs NSW then a more pro active stance needs to be taken. Organise a deputation of many people to approach not only Dogs NSW but the other controlling bodies and work to gain their assistance. -
Ankc No Longer Recognising Flyball Titles
Airedaler replied to Jumabaar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just a Question here, I lknow nothing about the situation other than reading the above. Is the AFA afilliated with the ANKC or any of it's member bodies? If not then it is probable that the ANKC cannot recognise titles from this body. Have discussions between the two regarding afilliation ever been held and if not why not? Maybe this could be the solution. I can understand the ANKC not recognising titles from a unafilliated organisation but if that is the case why did they do so in the first place? -
Thinning Scissors/stripping Knife/stones?
Airedaler replied to MishB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi MishB I paid quite a lot for a pair of Wahl thinning scissors and could never keep an edge on them. In desperation one day I bought a $10 pair and 6 years later they are still going and never been sharpened. Scissors will, obviously, cut the hair, a stripping knife is designed to assist you pull the hair out. Double coated terriers are stripped (pulled) out as it allows the new coat to grow through from the root of the hair and gives a harsher coat. I'm not sure I have explained that very well hope you understand what I am saying. -
I've foound the Vet's All Natural Joint Formula to be an excellent product.
