Goat milk is way better for the newborns IMO if you can get it or some supermarkets do sell it in the long life form and also my Woolies sells fresh it in 1 litre cartons.

Assuming there is not a medical problem with him I would try Satin Balls This is the recipe I was given. This quantity made 11x115g patties. Satin Balls - 750g. cheap hamburger meat (for high fat %) 5 weet bix 1.5 cups of uncooked oatmeal 6 tablespoons wheat germ, 1 tbs unflavoured gelatine 2 tbs vegetable oil 1 raw egg - shell as well 2 tbs unsulphured molasses pinch of salt Mix all ingredients and divide into individual serving sized patties. May be frozen. The above quantity is 1/10 of the full recipe and is worth making this to see if your boy will eat it before making a huge quantity. The other thing that I have never had refused is canned mackerel.

So sorry to hear you have lost a pup but hey that happens and is not necessarily tied into the circumstances of the snake bite. I too would give liquid calcium to Reba and keep her fluids up with whatever takes her fancy. Egg flips are usually happily consumed. It is early days and her milk may take a few days to come in. The first 48 hours are always particularly stressful I find as there is no pattern or routine set but usually things settle after that. I'm sure the hot weather is not helping either. Good luck hope things settle quickly and you can all be a bit more relaxed..

White out on different parts of the body works well on darker coloured dogs

When mine were whelping I used to boil up some stewing steak - just lightly cooking it - but found if the bitch did not want to eat they would drink the juice from the meat. I always added plenty of water when boiling. After they had finished whelping it was one of the only things they would eat for a few days. Hope by now there is some puppies and all well.

Thanks for your information Helen. I've decided to use Show Manager and to date I must say I have been impressed with their service. I emailed 3 online entry services about a week ago. SM replied to me comprehensively answering my questions within an hour......the other two I'm still waiting to have my questions answered.

I use Supercoat mainly. I also find the dogs do very well on Uncle Albers and Great Barko but found the gas produced was a problem from these so reverted to Supercoat.

I'm another who feeds the dogs raw bones and have done so for many years. I raised litters of pups with chicken wings and necks and lamb necks. I would put these in the whelping box from about 4 weeks of age and the puppies loved to chew/suck on them. I think most of the problem with Vets being anti raw comes from their education which is mainly provided by the big dog food companies so guess where the bias is going to be. How do they think dogs survived 50 or so years ago when commercial dog food was not so readily available.

Crazy sales have one for $109. These are sturdy and IMO very good value There is also an eBay seller who sells these at maybe a little more than this price but postage is free. I'll see if I can find the link for you. Oz-Auction - this one (90cm long) is $115 with free shipping. If you want the 120cm long one it is $124 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/90cm-Dog-Cat-Pet-Grooming-Table-with-Adjustable-Arm-/390535651470 One thing I will say is that IMO it is a mistake to use a table that is too big. You need to be able to comfortably reach the dog from all sides and this also teaches the dog that they cannot move around as much.

Lawsuit Over Buying A Crossbred To Breed More Crossbreds
Airedaler replied to redangel's topic in In The News
I read it to say the pet shop person had viewed both parents not the purchaser. I did think it interesting though that the judge stated that when buying a cross bred dog there was no guarantee of what one got. Maybe if people did not give these cross breeds silly names there would be less confusion all around. -
would love to Cat but I have not been able to work out how to post photos here despite attempting several times.

They sure do. I've had the breed for 40 years and have seen many come and go over that time. I still love them.

I bought a soft/blow up Cloud collar at Pet Barn in Victoria they also have soft Elizabethan collars

I would also like the person wanting to use my do have a true interest in the breed and the breed history and to be an active member of the breed club (assuming there is one). As we all have to start somewhere I would not have a problem in a first time breeder using my dog if other boxes were ticked. I often think many of us would not be in the dog world as we are, had the conditions some wish to impose on new owners/breeders had they been imposed on us.

For me I would go down the palliative care route for however long he was comfortable and hopefully pain free or at least managable and then give him his wings. He will always be your pal and IMO it is now time for you to be his and take some of his courage to make his life at this time easier.

We made our own from weldmesh panels and poles that sit on concrete. Each run has a 3x3 metre insulated shed which the panels are anchored to. The panels bolt together and are bolted the concrete in a couple of places. One is about 3 meters long by 2 meters long. Basically one dog would go in this run to sleep and on the odd occasion would be shut in there for only a short time. The other one is about 2.5 long and 4 wide it also has a shed where 2 dogs can sleep. I planted a creeper on the fence and this shades the run for the hottest part of the day but unfortunately not the shed. We built these about 30 years ago and they have seen many dogs and puppies and probably should be revamped now but with only 2 dogs left and no more breeding I'm not going to spent the money on doing that as I have other options.

Clipping Of Front Dew Claws
Airedaler replied to stathipaxinos's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Like HW I too would try a Dremel or similar grinder. These can be bought very cheaply at hardware stores often sold as Hobby Grinders. Dremels are top of the range so quite expensive. However, by using this type of tool you actually push the nail quick back and are far less likely to make it bleed as can easily happen when using clippers. Another method is to use a file (I used a coarse cross cut (bastard) file) or even glue some coarse sandpaper on to a piece of wood and use that. This may take longer than clipping or using the motorised grinders but with a regular and persistent effort you will win. The dogs do not seem to react the same way to filing as they do with clipping. Just make sure you hold the nail firmly with the hand you are not filing with so it does not wriggle around. In my experience for some reason I am not able to fathom Vets do not like to cut nails and often find an excuse not to. -
Many thanks Sway

There seems to be a push for Clubs to take on online entries for their shows. I act as Show Secretary for my club and we run a Championship and an Open Show on the same day. Our entry is small - about 25 for champ show and half that for the Open Show. Can someone please explain to me how the online system works for the Show Secretary and if as I believe the entries stay open for much longer what the impact has on getting a catalogue out. As Show Secretary what would I be required to do? I assume not all exhibitors are going to enter online so that would mean there is different sources of entries. Would love any input.
