  1. there are wire crates around with doors both in the side and front, not sure about the soft crates though. I have one with only the one door in the front. the front is sloped so that it fits in the car (Ford Territory) and my dogs have happily jumped into that if I let them. I prefer to lift them and put them into the crate though. It's really only a matter of which crate you want to buy.
  2. So pleased Mandela is still doing well Erny. A credit to your devotion and persistence. Does he have any bones or kibble as a rule or just the AA with roo mince?
  3. I use the hammock style beds for my dogs, the hessian bag has been replaced with old trampoline matting which would allow any liquid to flow through. On top of that you could try Vet bed or similar fleece type of bedding. they are so easy the throw in the machine and wash and dry almost instantly. I used them in the whelping box with some newspaper under the vet bed (I bought cheaper version) they were so easy to keep clean. To be honest I cannot remember where I bought mine now, it would be 10 years ago - and they are still as good as now. I have a feeling it may have been Kenol Enterprises in Vic.
  4. Oh dear! Sadly I suspect there are some that would think it a good deal.
  5. Thank you everyone for your wishes and thoughts on my loss. Some leave bigger holes than others and this was a big one.
  6. Hi Everyone, I thought I would just bring you all up to date re my girl. Sadly her condition deteriorated dramatically over the weekend and today she was PTS. She was an absolute delight to me for almost 9 years, from the moment I whelped her and I shall miss her terribly but I could no longer let her go on struggling with life as she was. Unfortunately we will never know exactly what the problem was or what caused it but we do know no amount of love and care was making her better.
  7. Why don't you contact the company the insurance is through and ask them. I think the VCA still uses Ford Kinter for their insurance. Maybe it might be worth a call to them even though you are in QLD. As with all insurances, it is a complex issue. I would have thought that the 4x4 club's insurance would cover things relating to that activity but not a dog related injury/attack unless they are stipulated as part of that activity or perhaps caused by something done by the club that instigated the problem. Just my thoughts no idea really.
  8. Sometimes as the penis is going back into the sheath, the sheath can roll back into itself and prevent or make the return of the penis harder. This may be what is happening to your boy. If so maybe it can be surgically corrected.
  9. I use the product you are asking about but my dogs only get a few pieces each when they go to bed or if they manage to get into my pocket while I'm hanging the washing out. As a rule I think Nature's Gift is more that just acceptable. I usually have a few tins on hand in case I forget to take meat out of the freezer or if one of the dogs is off their food. It is the only brand of tins I will use. ETA. my mistake, this is not the product I have used, however, I still like the NG products I have tried and would not hesitate to use this one if I needed to.
  10. Thank you Yonjuro I appreciate your good wishes.
  11. As this thread has gone way off topic I will just say thank you to all that have answered my original post and to others with useful suggestions. I will probably try this supplement when I am able to buy some because I don't see it will do any harm. I don't think I would follow the AA diet but what I feed now is not a lot different. I have been fortunate to source some raw green tripe and will be interested to see if there is any improvement feeding that.
  12. They had these beds last year and the medium and large were sold out at my store by about 5 minutes after opening. Small one were around for a bit longer. So get in quick if you want one.
  13. Sorry Jules, I forgot to answer you on that. No, I have not tried Vit E but will do so. I have some Vit E cream but will get some oil into her diet. Certainly worth a try.
  14. Mrs Rusty bucker is correct this issue has nothing to do with the pancreas. Granulomas are an inflammation found in many diseases. It is a collection of immune cells known as macrophages. Granulomas form when the immune system attempts to wall off substances that it perceives as foreign but is unable to eliminate. Such substances include infectious organisms such as bacteria and fungi. It appears that these are usually from one of two causes, a. infection which is treated with antibiotics or b. can be autoimmune induced which is treated with immune suppressants/cortisone. Pathology has been inconsistent in this case saying that the cause is probably not infection but may well be! and while they have not ruled out auto immune induced they have not confirmed it either. However, treatment for both forms have been tried as has a change in diet to a more anti inflammatory diet but the condition is getting worse. There have been 3 lumps removed and in each case new ones have come up near those locations in a short time. One thing that has been definitely confirmed is that they are NOT cancerous. It is now 9 months since this started and it was more contained in the earlier months. Some of the lumps come up and erupt leaving an open area others are unbroken but seem to grow larger. Most are about 3/4 of an inch in diameter the largest being about 2x1" She has been prodded and poked and needled and scraped and put under GA's to remove lumps and had innumerable tests, all without one complaint from her, and nothing has thrown any light on the problem. I am very reluctant to continue putting her through this saga as she is so miserable most of the time. Vets with 40 years+ experience have not seen anything like it. She has also been treated with acupuncture and Chinese herbs to no avail. She is almost 9
  15. Other than 2 conventional vet opinions (albeit in the same practice) and Robert McDowell, I am now working with Dr Ann Neville who practices both conventional and Natural Therapies. She is the most caring and knowledgeable Vet I have come across in my 40 year association with dogs. She is totally lost over this problem and has explored many sources to find an answer. I have total confidence in her ability. JulesP I had not thought about trying to find a group with similar issues, I will look into it. thanks for the suggestion. The condition, on the surface, should be a relatively simple one to at least control. The problem is that in this case the treatments and options simply are not working and the condition is worsening. The diagnosis is: Multifocal to coalescing, multi nodular pyogranulomateos and panniculitis. Thank you everyone for your input.
  16. Sorry, I can't really be of any valuable assistance, I have responded to your original question about AA and have given you my anecdotal findings. I don't believe it is a miracle product, but I also don't believe it is 'snake oil' given that all of the ingredients are widely used in holistic veterinary medicine. I suppose you have tried probiotics? Thank you Yonjouro. Sometimes anecdotal findings are as useful as scientific ones. Your experience is valuable information as far as I'm concerned. Probiotics have been tried.
  17. If it's bad enough that you'd consider putting her to sleep, I'd be getting second and third options on her current treatment. It could be something as simple as adjusting the dosage further. I'm on the third opinion now.
  18. Might be a bit far for you but Boronia Veterinary Clinic do the 3 year protocol for vaccinations
  19. I do add turmeric to the food. To be honest I've not found it has had any long term impact on anything. I guess I'm looking to boost the immune system - see post #5.
  20. Thanks for your replies. I might explorer the products further. Mrs Rusty Bucket, I'm not sure I do want it but have seen quite a bit about it and wondered if it was something I might look at feeding. I have a bitch with a problem we cannot find an answer to and despite pathology results saying one thing treatment for that is not working. I'm now at the point of doing one of two things..... grasping at straws and trying something like AA or saying enough is enough and letting her go.
  21. I've seen a lot about Augustine Approved lately but am failing to quite understand exactly what it is. Is it a food or is it something one adds to food (supplement) What are it's benefits? Is it an immune booster or something else? I see they sell a Super Food kit, does anyone know what one does with this? Would love some feedback about this product and also if anyone has used it what for, how and was it worthwhile for you?
  22. Thanks Cat. There is indeed a story but unfortunately I am not able to tell it yet due to legal issues. Thanks for trying to get the word out, not sure of the Airedale rescue page you mean but I hope it will be posted on their FB page as you requested.
  23. Thank you VizslaMomma your contribution is greatly appreciated.
  24. Sorry about that VizslaMomma, hopefully this one will work. I'll go and put it on the Club page now as well. Thanks for your interest. http://www.youcaring.com/pet-expenses/rescue-repair-and-rehome-airedale-terriers-/179786
