  1. The Airedale Terrier Club is holding a Fund Raiser to pay for the veterinary costs of 5 Airedale Terriers that are being held at Animal Shelter in Melbourne. These were from a group of 12 Airedales that were seized under difficult circumstances. The shelter negotiated with the council to take the dogs and oversee their rehabilation. The ATCV has donated a significant amount to cover the cost of veterinary bills although had no part in taking them from the council pound. Fund raiser details are at http://tinyurl.com/msyggc3. Any assistance to raise funds to help these Airedales and any others that may be in need in the future would be greatly appreciated. The ATCV has been caring for and promoting Airedales for 85 years and during that time have rehomed/rescued and repaired many.
  2. Why am I not surprised at this outcome. When the story is printed and if there are glaring inaccuracies then I would write a letter to the Editor and very strongly correct the article and point out that the reporter did not front to an appointment nor did she give you time to check the article. She may have missed a deadline but there is always next weeks edition and surely in order to present the story correctly it would have been more important to have you confirm what was written. Of course that is not how journalists see it. A letter to the editor of course does not remove what has already been printed and in some cases that story will be taken as gospel. HazyWal, do you have a local community paper in addition to the local one. (We have one put out monthly for just our suburb) If so maybe you could write something and send it to that paper. That would at least get your story out as you wish it to be read.
  3. Genuine Canine Association registered breeders need to reconsider the term Registered Breeder as it is not specific enough. Puppy buyers, (Joe Public) are not necessarily aware that Registered Breeder does not mean registered with their council or with the Pet Industry or any one of a multitude of other bodies. We need it to be common that we speak about Canine Council Registered Breeders and be prepared to explain what that means. Likewise with "papers". Any person selling a puppy can provide papers. What the papers are is another thing and a pedigree can be written by anyone, it is just the ancestors of the pup. The vast majority of puppies sold are sold to pet owners who do not give two hoots about registration with a canine society and do not go to dog forums for information or advice before buying a pup. I guess it is all about Education and the Canine Associations have a big part to play in that along with the members of those associations. To the OP, I do hope you soon find a genuine breeder that can sell you a wonderful healthy pug puppy and that you spread widely with friends and others you experience. I'm also another one that would encourage you to contact the official Pug Club - in any State as they are usually run by people who have been around for many years, have the best interest of the breed at the forefront and have the correct information. I have seen many "splinter groups" for breeds formed and the information they give out is not always correct. Go to the real source of information.
  4. In the 40 years I have been involved in the pure breed dog world it has never been and option to sell with or without papers in Victoria.
  5. I agree with what The Ark has said (#10). It is too easy for Canine Control Registered breeders to get away with not doing the right thing. Most puppies are sold as pets and hence strictly speaking the papers are of little consequence to the owner. In fact breeders still get enquiries about buying a puppy but don't want papers so it should be cheaper! Hello, apart from the $30 something to register it costs the same to raise a pet as any other puppy. There are plenty of pet owners who are quite happy to support these "registered" breeders which in fact, in many cases are breeding bitches every season and selectively registering them with the canine association. In a lot of cases they do not have good the knowledge of the breed or the breed history. Often, probably usually, the purchasers end up with a wonderful puppy and are happy to recommend the "breeder" to others and so the culture is perpetuated. I know of a breeder that has had 5 litters (including one cross bred) from a bitch that has not yet turned 6. She must have been bred every season. Obviously the puppies are helping to provide a nice income.
  6. Why don't you knock on the door and talk to the owners if this is concerning you so much. There seems to be a lot of assumptions being made.
  7. For anyone looking at a good medium weight coat at a great price check out this Weatherbeeta Quilted Coat on special for $14 and free postage. Usually $35. http://www.horseland.com.au/weatherbeeta-quilted-dog-rug.html
  8. I have owned bitches for 40 years and bred many litters over that time and fortunately have never had a case of pyometra. Most of my bitches have been de-sexed at about 7 or 8 years of age.
  9. I used a magnetic collar on one of my oldies that had mobility problems due to arthritis and it did help a lot. She also wore a magnetic coat in the winter and again the positive effect was very noticeable.
  10. Several dogs I know would squeeze through/push off those boards so I would also suggest wire fencing of some sort. I'm sure your new puppy will be the most perfect one ever put on earth, just like we all believe before they arrive....LOL. Personally I prefer the openness of wire mesh but as this is what you have then I'm sure with a bit of tweaking it will suit the purpose well.
  11. I'm not sure about the timber fence that surrounds the run. Is the puppy/dog going to be able to see what is going on or only going to be able to see wooden fence when in the run and how much time is it going to spend in the run? Conversely, are you going to be able to see what the pup/dog is doing while in the run?
  12. HazyWal Just be very aware that in spite of what you tell the reporter and however well you believe the interview went it does not always appear in print as you think it will - or should. Hopefully that will not happen in your case but it is something to be aware of. Good luck I hope this all comes to a positive end for you very soon.
  13. I asked my holoistic vet in Eastern suburbs of Melbourne about titre testing their cost is $239.
  14. Another vote for Ian Parsons from Feather Edge www.clippersharpening.com.au He charged me $10 per blade and I post them off to him with a cheque or he will accept DD and they are usually back within a week at the most. I've never had a blade come back that is not sharp and they seem to last longer than those I had sharpened at Clipper World.
  15. You bought a Jeep????????? Sorry could not help myself.
  16. If this does not put a smile on your face nothing will. http://tinyurl.com/lj4ang5
  17. You could use a slope fronted crate. Where did you get yours from? Good question. I've had it for about 6 years now I cannot remember exactly who I bought it from but it was at one of the show supply people at KCC Park in Melbourne. I think Pet Network also have them.
  18. You could use a slope fronted crate.
  19. I am using a sloped front crate at the moment which just fits in my Territory. Don't go to any trouble KC but I appreciate your input. I'm a little way off buying a new car but just want to have some idea of what to look at.
  20. thanks, an option might be to have a side opening crate and put in sideways but I would refer not to do that.
  21. So would you fit a 90cm crate in the back of the Outlander without putting the back seats down Kelpiecuddles?

  23. Over the years I have had several dogs eat baited rats and mice, none have been affected in any way. However, having said that it is not something I would encourage.
  24. Little Gifts says (in part) "None of this behind the scenes stuff is even our business. We are not the rescue group, pound police and no agreement has even been broken. The poor dog is not even in the new owner's possession yet. I'm just going to focus on the small miracle that is him finding a new and what seems like perfect home". This says it all to me.
  25. I would be boiling and cooling all their water for a couple of days. If they are not eating IMO it is unlikely that they are still having the problem without any improvement if it is caused by food. However, if they are still drinking the water from a new environment maybe this is the culprit. It never ceases to amaze me that people can admit their dogs are overweight but the cannot cut them back on food. It is totally in your control to feed an appropriate amount. Feeling bad about not giving something that is not needed is not logical. The dogs do not have human emotions and while they may look for that extra something if it is not forthcoming they will not pine for it.
