  1. Teeth cleaning without a GA. Has anyone heard of this guy? I need to have my boys teeth done and at 12 would be happy not to have to put him under a GA. Also does anyone have any ball park idea of the usual cost of a basic teeth clean (no other work needed - just a clean) at the Vet? http://www.freshbreathdoggiedental.com/.
  2. I went too and found it really good and enjoyable. The only thing I would have liked to see is some handouts from the day. I like to come home after a seminar and re hash things but without any notes to refresh my ageing mind this is difficult.
  3. Might be a waste of time but perhaps a phone call to the Council Offices at the tie those dogs are there and off the lead inappropriately may bring a Ranger out to do something. One can only hope. This is one of the reasons why I don't walk my dogs in public areas.
  4. Have a look on the AQIS website to see what the requirements are re vaccination etc. There is no quarantine between Australia and NZ but there are specific requirements. Make sure the puppy is microchipped. You might also talk to some of the pet transport companies/airlines - including the one that will be transporting your pup and ask about the requirements. As far as asking questions of the breeder, I would ask whatever questions you would ask of a breeder here as well. I assume you have built up enough of a relationship with the breeder over time to establish their credentials and ethics. Good luck
  5. Is there anyone who uses the above program. I bought it some years ago and have put in a considerable amount of time and effort building a database however, since I have changed computers I am not able to access my files or get the program to work. When I try to open the database I'm asked to go to the app store to find a program to open the file but nothing will open it. I'm now using Windows 8.1 (and hate it) Any ideas? ETA a bit more information
  6. Happy birthday Tibor. A great age, I hope you have many happy days ahead of you. You share a birthday with my special boy Gus who is just a boy turning 12 today.
  7. I found these on ebay, I assume it's the same lens, you've put an "N" in your spelling http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_kw=Soligor+90-230mm Yes it is the same, sorry about the spelling. Looks as though there are plenty out there, but perhaps not a lot of interest in them.
  8. I have been going through some draws and having a clear out and have come across a telephoto lens doing nothing. I bought this many moons ago (read about 30 years) it is a Solinger - for Pentax 90-230 in excellent condition. I figure it may as well be somewhere being useful if it is relevant in today's world.
  9. I would not expect any difference in the price depending on size of dog as the area being used is the same, the clean up etc. would be the same and the organisation would be the same from you. I think a sliding scale on more than one dog from the same family would be good and I would think that the rate would need to be a bit higher than overnight boarding on the basis of your time and effort/expense in a daily change over.
  10. Is there any updates on this day. I registered some time ago but have not heard anything since?
  11. Assuming there is no underlying issues with this puppy I would simply make sure it is getting plenty of food and fluid. Was the puppy smaller than the others before the problem? I would take the pup aside and hand feed it as well as letting it feed with the others. Obviously you don't want to overfeed it of course so little bits often. I would try feeding raw mince (beef, chicken or pork), goat milk with beaten egg and a bit of honey and yoghurt. I think that as long as it is eating well and doing everything else you would expect then it may just be a matter of time. In my experience the smallest puppy in a litter does not always end up being a small adult. If on the other hand there is an underlying problem with this puppy then I think that is another issue all together and I would take a totally different path.
  12. I don't know where in Vic your are but if it is anywhere near the South Eastern suburbs I strongly suggest you contact Dr Ann Nevill of East West Veterinary Group in Bentleigh East. Ann combines traditional veterinary practices with Chinese medicine and can work wonders.
  13. Sweet. Do the greyhounds go through that tunnel Rebanne?
  14. I too agree with Rebanne and others that basically just put them together. I guess in most cases for me it has been a little different as I have usually bred the puppy and so it has just progressed to being one of the pack. This time however, I will be buying a puppy in. My current dog will be 12 when the pup arrives and I am confident that he will be no threat or danger to the pup. I will be introducing them in the yard to get on with their own introductions albeit under supervision. They will not be left alone for a while although will possibly sleep together. In my experience the longer you take to introduce the two the more issues you are likely to have.
  15. I have used it often for an upset tummy or bowel in both dogs and myself. Not sure what the brand was but I bought it from the health food shop and it was organic. I just mix it to a slurry with about 1tsp of powder in a little bit of cold water and then when it is absorbed add more water. I have on occasion just tipped it over the dogs food and although it should be fed before the food it has still solved the issue.
  16. Instincto sell it fresh I believe. https://instincto.com.au/
  17. I've always taken my puppies out - selectively- at 8 weeks, having been vaccinated at 6. My Vet told me that they would have enough protection between natural immunity and the 6 week vaccination to be covered.
  18. My oldest was our second Curly Coated Retriever - she was 15 when she developed cancer and was PTS. My daughter in law has a Jack Russell cross who is almost 19. Jack has been very active up until a few years ago but has only ever been fed low quality food. Almost 2 years ago he developed kidney issues and the vet sent him home to virtually die but Jack had other ideas and rejected the kidney diet food the vet suggested for VIP loaf and is on no medication. Although he does sleep for most of the day he still enjoys pottering around when he is awake, he has some hearing loss but often it is selective and mobility is not as good as it was but he can get quite a trot going. He also chooses to sleep outside in his "den" although he does now wear a coat at night during the cooler weather. He is a tough cookie.
  19. This is my big question right now. I'm 65 and thinking of taking on a new pup. Best laid plans went astray when the dog I thought would see my dog days out with passed away far too soon. I'm concerned that I'll not be able to do the right thing by the puppy and while she/he will not be neglected my limitations may mean the best is not good enough. On the law of averages I would be in my late 70's if the dog lasts as long as it should - and that is scary on so many levels. I've had many discussions about this with many people (granted they are ones who think I should have another one so may be biased)but without exception they tell me I'm being silly, of course I'll do the right thing as I have for the last 40+ years. It is a huge responsibility though.
  20. I have this post in General Discussion but thought it might attract attention here as well. I wonder if there are any budding (or otherwise) photographers who would be interested in attending and taking photos at an event in the Southbank/Fed Square(Melbourne) area on the 31st August. No payment but there could be an opportunity to sell photographs and we would be happy to promote this through our magazine and internet facilities. The Airedale Terrier Club of Victoria is turning 85 - to our knowledge we are the second oldest breed club in Victoria - and we are having a celebratory walk along the river. We will have at least 45 Airedales and probably more from the interest we have seen. Of course our aim would be to have 85. It would be wonderful to mark the occasion with some great photos instead of my meagre attempts. We would also like to put together a calendar marking the event, but not sure it this will eventuate as yet.
  21. Gertrude I'll PM you, probably later in the day if that is OK.

  23. Assuming it is a pure bred it would be a Wire Haired Fox Terrier but if it is a mix then often any terrier type dog with a wire coat is referred to as a Wire Haired Terrier. This describes the coat and dog type rather than a breed.
