  1. Wei's can be neurotic and destructive in the wrong environment. Definitely make sure you meet a few before deciding! The longhairs are generally more laid back than the shorthairs. Suggestions: Labrador Standard Poodle English Pointer Collie Smooth
  2. Most of the stories on the page are actually happy? http://www.endsandown.com/
  3. What were the health issues I wonder? Sounds like the care of the dogs was fine.
  4. My beautiful GSD was put to sleep at approx 18mths of age due to OCD. She chased her tail so much that she chewed the end of her tail off, and she was just skin and bone. We tried everything to fix it but had no luck. It was devastating. I believe that GSDs are prone to anxiety. ETA Sorry I missed your update. I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Teddy
  5. Glad to hear everything went well. He is a brave boy. :) His nuts look pretty raw again though!
  6. The clinic I work at absolutely does not charge any more for insured animals, nor do we recommend a different treatment plan. I think most vets would be the same and I think it is unfair to claim they are trying to make more money from insured clients. I called Petplan last week to find out what the increase would be for Jolie's insurance (thankfully my policy doesn't expire until January). If I was due to renew now, it would go from $49.95 to $65, but it could even increase more between now and then. What q crock.
  7. Pia is the slowest eater! She nibbles each bit of kibble and takes a good 10 minutes to eat her dinner. The others all potter around hoping she will leave them some, but they know not to try and steal her food. Once they have all finished, I have to pick up the bowls straight away otherwise Champa takes them all away to lick clean lol.
  8. I don't know if it's just luck, but none of mine resource guard anything. My dogs all eat next to each other (that's seven dogs at present) and know that I will make sure nobody steals their food. I don't mind if they growl if another dog gets too close to their bowl, but aggression isn't tolerated. When they have bones, they swap and share and I can take them away if I choose (but I'm not that mean :D). I have always fed my dogs this way right from an early age and everyone is expected to behave. I watch them eat and take bowls away afterwards. As I said, not sure if it's just luck but it works for us.
  9. Isn't Fritz only very young? I would be getting a good trainer in to assess what is happening and give you some ideas. I know food guarding is natural, but you don't want two dogs going at it every time they smell food or find a toy etc.
  10. He is gorgeous! A few months earlier and my work colleague would have snapped him up! But she has a baby Ibizan keeping her busy now. I will keep him in mind if I hear of anyone looking for a Pharoah.
  11. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. He was such a gorgeous boy, life just isn't fair sometimes. I'm sure Wolf will look after him at the Bridge. RIP Finn and big hugs to you Crits xxx
  12. Well it was a nice day but I won't be returning. There were protesters there and the RSPCA staff were so rude to them and were warning people about the scary protesters....
  13. I know. :) As I said, staff are great but the corporation in general is not.
  14. It really depends on the diagnosis. My Italian Greyhound had steroid responsive meningitis. She made a quick and complete recovery once she received the correct treatment (cortisone). She had one minor relapse but has been perfect ever since. Fingers crossed your baby makes a speedy recovery.
  15. The staff at the Vic RSPCA are lovely, but no they don't work with rescue. Many smaller rescues attend and walk wearing their promotional gear (which I will be doing for Pug Rescue) but I don't think they let other rescues have stalls. They do have demos from breed clubs though.
  16. I know melz, I mean I don't like the way they operate and don't normally donate. But I love doing this walk, seeing all the dogs and stalls, etc. Another local rescue has just started doing a similar walk so hopefully that takes off so I can do that instead. :)
  17. Of course I do! I've been telling everyone about my famous canine friend lol. :)
  18. Not a supporter of the RSPCA but I love doing this walk. :) We will be at Albert Park with Pia they greyhound, Toby the standard poodle and Robbie the pug. Jolie the Iggy might come too. Anyone else going? Say hi if you recognise us! :)
  19. I have Jolie insured with Petplan. Will be interesting to see what they take out this month. If it has increased, I will be cancelling.
  20. I assumed you would have, just thought I should mention it. :) Keep us updated - will be interesting to hear how it goes.
  21. Animal Planet responded on FB saying they will look into it. I hope so!
  22. If he is coping with the vision loss, there is no need to let him go.
