  1. Haha our previous clinic dog would do that! You'd say sit and he would go SITSHAKELEFTSHAKERIGHTDROPROLL hahaha! Thank you, I will try keeping the food out of sight. He is such a guts - spends most of his time hoovering the carpet for crumbs lol! With two kids here, there are a fair few crumbs...
  2. Shrug it off! You love your dog, that's all that matters. :) People can be very thoughtless sometimes and say or do things that hurt our feelings. I often get comments about my dogs - 'Eww they are so skinny!' (IG and Greyhound), 'Look at its funny haircut!' (Std Poodle). I don't care, they are my dogs and I know the truth. I just smile and judge them in silence lol.
  3. My foster Pug is OBSESSED with food and loses the plot whenever food is around. I want to teach him a few cute tricks and thought this would work in my favour, but so far it has been an epic fail! He can sit, and we have just mastered wait (before he eats). But when I try guiding him or encouraging him to do anything else (eg drop or shake), he is so focused on the treats that he wriggles and leaps around like a mad thing... I'm sure I'm probably doing it all wrong, but can anyone give me some tips or ideas?
  4. We have no problem with dogs on seats at our clinic. In fact, quite often our clinic dog gets up with the clients too! The benches have vinyl cushion covers so easily cleaned, and we have a leather couch too which again is easy to wipe down. We usually only have 1-3 people waiting at any time so there is plenty of room. Our clinic is very focused on keeping dogs and cats calm and happy, so if a dog is happiest sitting up with its owner, that's fine with us. :)
  5. Haha me too! Pia always leaves nose puddles on the couch, I didn't know it was a Greyhound thing!
  6. Jolie was in my room on the bed. :) And yes they pulled out ALL their toys then decided it was too hot to play.
  7. Such a stinker in Melbourne today but the dogs have got it sorted. :) There was a cat lying in the middle of them too but she got up when I went to take the photo. And the ring-in you can see is my newest foster - a Pug. :)
  8. I agree, a dog would scream if that happened so how did the mother not hear anything?
  9. I have 5 dogs and 1 of them is scared of storms. Her fears developed later in life when she was about 5yo. She isn't totally phobic, she just pants and whines etc. However once she is inside, she couldn't care less about the storm!
  10. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I always get worried when there is no pain with these things. Keeping you all in my thoughts xx
  11. I know its a long shot, but if anyone is doing transport to Vic I can take them.
  12. I stick to my original feelings - give the meds a go, if no luck then remove the eye.
  13. Cruciates don't tend to be that painful in my experience. They are sore and non-weight bearing but not screaming or anything. Hope he is ok!
  14. From the photos, it looks more like the conjunctiva (the pink tissue around her eye) is puffy. The actual eye itself looks fine. It may have just been severe conjunctivitis or an insect, but it is unusual that she is off her food. Does she normally get allergies?
  15. There could be a foreign body behind the eye, but *generally* there would be more discharge and pain. I personally doubt it is linked to the incident a few weeks ago. There is no sign of injury or inflammation to the cornea from what I can see in those photos. I hope you get some answers on Tuesday.
  16. Can you take a photo front on and side on, without touching her face or pulling the eyelids? If you shine a torch in that eye, does the pupil close down? ACDs are prone to several eye conditions unfortunately. Where abouts are you located?
  17. I think Frontline is useless. I'd try Advantage instead.
  18. How on earth did that Dobe girl carry a pregnancy?!? That breaks my heart.
  19. It doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the lymphoma dog we saw, so hopefully its not that. :) There doesn't look to be too much swelling around the eye, just behind it. So hopefully it is just an infection or cellulitis type thing. I'll cross my fingers for you. :) ETA there doesn't seem to be much discharge which usually happens with an infection. So it could just be a random inflammatory issue. Sometimes foreign bodies can track behind the eye (like a grass seed) but again you woukd expect mucky discharge with that.
  20. I said cats rarely need a bath, and I stand by that. Cats do not need to be washed as often as dogs. Most of my cats have never had a bath and never needed one. The show cat has had the odd bath, and my old girl has had a few due to skin problems. It does not need to be a traumatic experience for the cat, but most groomers don't have hours to calmly groom a cat. I clipped and bathed many cats when I was a groomer, and never needed to do anything like that. It is cruel. Would you do that to a dog?
  21. My cat has a galloping heart beat and his is due to cardiomyopathy. I would be getting her heart checked before she has surgery - if she has a serious heart defect, your decision might be made for you. Sorry you are going through this.
  22. No I'm in Victoria. :) We look at all parts of the eye, including the orbit. It can be hard to access the orbit to do an aspirate. If the dog is uncomfortable (and it must be) and there is no improvement with meds, I think eye removal is a fair decision. Can you post a photo?
