  1. the vet was planning to refer to specialist who would take it out, but because she is getting on well with the meds, so she wants to put her on it to heal it .. She explained that the specialist will go through the same thing as well. And if her condition worsen or if it re-occurs .. then will definitely refer to specialist . Should I request for it? Demand for it?
  2. Hi all, My little shih tzu of 11 months is having tonsillitis since 3 weeks ago and has been under antibiotics for that long. She was put under anaesthetic last week so that the vet could check her throat out. Came out confirmed with a very inflamed and pus tonsils, stinky breath (literally can stink the whole room) ... given more antibiotics to tame it down. We revisit the vet yesterday and Lexie is getting slightly better. Meaning the antibiotics are working on her. Less stinky breath (only can smell it if you are face to face with her), less inflamed and less pus though not better than what we would like it to be. So, vet gave us a month's course of antibiotics to heal it. Question here is what can I give Lexie, good balance of food maybe to balance up her diet as she would be under antibiotics for a month Don't want it to create new problems in her body. I did asked for probiotic but vet said it's not recommended as it may contradict with the antibiotics. Any advise would be much appreciated!
  3. good idea! I was thinking about it too... for such little girl, been having so many types or so many times of ABs that I fear it might just cause her something else in long run... she is almost 11 month .. will create a new threat for asking about boosting her immune sys!
  4. Vet had a peep on it and said it is very inflamed tonsillitis.. and has confirmed no foreign stuff lodged. Teeth looks perfect everything looks normal except for the very inflamed tonsils. she would not want to do anything on it right now as it is too inflamed fearing might caused further infection. so she gave us 3 types of stronger meds to have for 10 days. Then revisit on the 8th to see if any improvement before referring us to the specialist. I was pretty disappointed as nothing much was done during her anaesthetic time such as throat swab or something.. perhaps biopsy is not an option for now but at least something can be tested? I am tempted to get second opinion from another vet.. but not sure should I wait for the 8th day (next Tues) to get the refer to the specialist..
  5. Hi, Lexie was back on that day and vet said that there was nothing lodged in it and Lexie is having a very inflamed tonsils, and quite pus-sy too. So is given 3 types of medications (basically much stronger than the previous ones) for a good 10 days. On the 8th day, vet will refer her to specialist. Vet has just had a look and took a photo of her throat. She said she do not want to perform biopsy in fear it will create infection. But to calm down the inflamed tonsil before doing something. I would have thought she will perform some swab or something to test.
  6. just sent her to biopsy procedure this morning.. hoping for some better news ...
  7. Anyone know if iodine works on dog tonsillitis ?
  8. Oh good idea. I think I can I ask that. I should do that on our last visit.
  9. I am worry about if it might be due to the previous condition, that this round something has triggered it back..That's why our last discussion with the vet is biopsy if the condition not looking any better... I was hoping that it couldn't be one off again this round... at the moment she is happily eating and being actively playful - her usual self.. Since the day she got it, she seems fine. So I am also tempted to let it run it's course.... and giving her manuka honey 3 teaspoon daily.. but will definitely visit the vet this Monday if see condition worsen (finger crossed no)
  10. I see. Our vet has no issue to remove it if necessary. Guess we are lucky in that sense.. She is still her usual self and I didn't hear her cough much. Except for once or twice these 2 weeks where she played too much and drank water in a hurry... then cough, or so happened to overly excited in playing with her toy that she choke a bit on her saliva... guess will monitor her for another 2 days to see if it get worst... she has completed her 2nd course of antibiotics... If condition worsen (finger crossing won't), will call the vet.
  11. Don't think it is recurring, this can be her first time. Her previous ones was due to induced vomiting and it was just inflamed with swell. And she has trouble swallowing the whole time. But this round, she has inflammation, with yellowish coloration on it & her breath stinks. She still eats as normal. Yes, I would probably need to book her to biopsy, however will discussed with the vet if any other medication possible before it..... How does your horse puppy's tonsillitis looks like? Is it just swell up at the back throat on the both sides and inflamed?
  12. Hi all, Just wanting to get some opinion or if anyone has similar problem. Our younger one now 10 months old, who previously had bad ulcer where the vet assumed was Eosinophilic Granuloma, nov - dec last year, now is having tonsillitis. Back then, she healed after a month of on and off antibiotics / predisolone .. And, she was having problem eating hard food. I am not sure if both incident are caused by same problem as the throat looks different .... So just 2 weeks ago, I noticed she gags when she yawn. Out of instinct, I checked on her throat and noticed redness at the back of her throat. So I monitored her. 3 days later the redness has then turned yellow on top... It looks like having pus but perhaps it might just be the top layered looking yellowish. Her breath does stinks. Where previously her ulcer, her breath was normal. Anyway, she has no problem eating anything and playful as usual. So I brought her to the vet 2 weeks ago and vet diagnosed her having tonsillitis. Gave her a week's antibiotic but didn't recover and went back to the vet, she gave another week's of antibiotic top with anti-inflamed pain killer. Condition did not get worst but didn't recover well either. Now that she has completed her course, she is not fully recovered. Still active as usual, eats everything anything. No fever. But her throat looks the same to me since the last we visited the vet. Vet will consider putting her up to check inside her throat.. something call biopsy or? didn't quite remember! I will probably visit the vet again soon to ask if giving another course of med that is stronger will help or just straight away go for the biopsy. I just want to know if anyone has similar experience and share with me? Since she got it, I have been giving her manuka honey 20+ just to sooth her throat.. Thanks
  13. Chatswood Vet Clinic said not bad already but prefer to have them on Frontline / Advantix every 2 weeks. Willoughby Vet Clinic said that it is getting much better and some owners have stopped using the prevention every 2 weeks. So, just hoping that a walk around the Chatswood Chase / Westfield area, the cafe and such for breakfast will not pick any ticks up.
  14. Thanks. Just wanting to know how easy is it to pick up ticks or how bad the area would be as it's very built up
  15. hi all, hope this question is not being silly.... but just wanting to get an idea on how bad the tick season will be or even now? if let say dogs walks around the area of the Chatswood Chase / Westfield area, mainly the streets where there are mowed grass in front houses.. how bad is it that dogs will pick up flea / tick..? sorry if this seems silly but just roughly wanting to get some idea around those areas? It's not bushy area and I suppose it's not too bad?
  16. it's about time to start our journey... few days more to go.. just wanted to make sure that the first aid list for dogs are all taken care of and so I wanted to get some ideas from you all. Please advice!
  17. talking about the same topic. I have to rant a little bit as I am so mad right now... I found a cute medium dog wandering around nearby and wanting to cross the big road with cars zooming pass fast.. So we called him over and he was wagging his tail running happily over to us. I reckon he has a woman owner as he seems more attentive towards me then hubby. Healthy, well groomed. Not too dirty. So it seems he has just gotten out. So, checked the tags, found council tag number. No name or phone number. I gave a call and got them to call the owner. Got a call from owner 30 minutes later and we exchange our locations, also asking if she can come and pick up her dog (it would be 5 minutes drive). I couldn't as just so happened our car is sent for servicing today. Then she explained that it might take her quite awhile to get there as she is on wheelchair. Alright, I took pity of her and said I can bring the dog over to her place. We have to wait till we get the car back. Then we did, and we sent him over... 2 ladies came out and got back their doggy. I felt cheated somehow. One of them lied to me that she is on the wheel chair just to avoid walking all the way to claim back her dog? I might heard wrongly but am pretty sure the whole sentence end with a wheelchair. I would have rush through the door to pick my own dog up if this happened to me! I bet, it happened few times already and maybe they are not too worried as their dog might just come back home to them!
  18. my little girl has few phases of being very picky with her kibbles. However always goes ok with chicken or beef. Now she is being picky with the chicken and ok with beef. She is tiring me out of idea on how to feed her better! Peanut butter tricks sounds like a great idea. Will get a jar today to try with her.
  19. I find the Little Stinker works pretty well to start with. Somehow I think the scent that they put in there attract both my puppies to do it..
  20. really wonder if Baycox will do the trick this round?
  21. very strange. On Wed after her bouts, I fed her only chicken breast morning and night. She didn't poo anything else after. Yesterday night, I gave her the Kibbles, then this morning she has the same symptom. I really wonder if this is kibble related as I've just put her fully on Canidae new formula. Now she is back to chicken breast this morning. Will be putting her back to the Eukanuba Intestinal plus since she is ok with it, and see if symptoms persist. I guess to the vet then. Edit to add: her bouts isn't that bad. She will go from firm to very soft to pudding which end with some watery fluid (3 times in between 2-3 hours)..
  22. thanks for the tips will be searching for that..
  23. not sure.... but the house is pet friendly. I am just paranoid about thinking the previous tenants may have pets with them? That's why the idea of bombing the pest away...
  24. I am moving to Chatswood NSW area and I don't know if the previous owner has dogs or cats as the property is pet friendly. So I don't want to move in to a flea or tick infested house. Though that townhouse is not surrounded by bush or park, it has a small backyard, landscape is flat and easy to maintain. It does have fully carpeted area at the top floor. That's the reason I want to flea bomb and in any case just de-tick the house ...
