Hi all :) Can anyone recommend a place where I could purchase 6 sets of 2x2 weavers with bridging kits? After a durable, high quality construction. Not having any luck finding anything in SA - would like to avoid freighting something so heavy but seems to be unavoidable at this stage so will freight from interstate if need be. Thanks! :)

Totally agree with this... BC7, apologies, I did mean to point you at the border collie pictures forum - this topic was discussed a bit more about 4 weeks ago, here's a link: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/66907-border-collie-pics/page__st__27390 Hopefully that works from about pg 1827-1832 is all pretty relevant to your decision. Hope this helps and welcome :)

Sorry to hear, I hope Sonny is on the mend soon! Sounds like he's on his way :) Head over to the Border Collie thread in the breed specific forum. Much more information there; but no, colour should NOT determine the price. Be very wary of dogs bred for colour and breeders advertising their 'fantastic' vast arrays of colour as they are generally not the result of best dog being mated with best dog.

No, unfortunately was exhausted on the weekend after a couple of horrible night shifts and the weather didn't entice me at all, after spending the previous weekend out in the raining doing herding :p I know, what a sook right  Next time!

Yeah absolutely. I think they pay straight to the vet too? So you're not out of pocket in the first place...

Im with RSPCA (which is Holland) and they've been great with the 2 claims i've had to date. I'll be switching to PetPlan soon due to some 'stories' i've been hearing about the RSPCA of late. The PetPlan premium for the exact same dog is more expensive than with RSPCA so i'm just waiting until I can fork out for it.

Thankyou! :)

Hi agility people I hear there's a trial on this weekend? Something about state champs? I've found the event in the DogsSA calendar but there is no venue listed and no further information. On the schedules page of the AgilitySA website there is a broken link to what is supposed to be a catalogue for the event (I think). I'm keen to come and have a look see, if anyone can shed some light that would be great!

My experience of my first (and only) male BC I kept entire until 12 months of age: Bloody nightmare. This was on my vet's recommendation as his breeding (lineage) was not particularly impressive and as a result his structure was neither impressive. I also made the point to said vet that I wanted to train agility/flyball/frisbee with him and have him run with me etc as I have an active lifestyle. So I read around a few papers (from as credible sources as one can find freely on the web) and I did find a consistent theme of leaving males intact until 12-18 months if they are to lead an active lifestyle as the increased exposure of certain hormones such as growth hormone and testosterone nurtures bone and joint development which has obvious beneficial effects for the performance dog. What is worth noting about my particular entire male dog is the transition from puppyhood to adolescence (which, mind you is challenging at the best of times regardless of entire, or not) surely took a few years off my life in terms of focus. It seemed that all the previous ~6 months of training I had put in with him went out the window - I went from having rock solid 100% recalls around other dogs (his highest value item) to having to go back to square one with his recall. Off lead he turned into a frantic sniffer and marker (and I mean frantic - running from one vertical surface to the next, foaming at the mouth) and completely inattentive mad man. You could actually pick the bitches at the dog park just by the way he followed them around relentlessly. It got so bad at one point in time we could only do training inside which, as you can imagine, is pretty useless for dog sport type training. When he was neutered a few days after his 1st birthday, it was like flicking a switch. The recall came back, he lost interest in other dogs (not to the point where he didn't like them - he was just no longer completely ga-ga over them), the marking stopped, the sniffing stopped and I had focus back to where we were originally. I now have a female BC pup with great lineage and structure who will be desexed before first season at ~6 months. This is on recommendation from breeder and vet. I understand the greatest benefit with regard to mammary cancer, specifically, is to be had from spaying a bitch before her 1st season (near eliminates risk). She is also going to be a performance dog but as she has great structure it was not seen to be necessary to delay spaying her. Also she is on limited register. Thats just my experience. I guess this just reciprocates the message that it should be an individual choice that is made by you, for your circumstances considering lifestyle, goals for dog, any behaviour issues that crop up in the meantime. Don't get me wrong, I think training is far more important than castrating a dog just because he gets growly at other dogs, for example - but I know for a fact based on my experience that neutering has a significant impact on behaviour.

D'oh...do you know when its back on?

Depending on what you wanted to teach, sorry I didn't realise you were training an older dog. The book is more about building solid foundations in focus for puppies going on to sporting. Perhaps 'Control Unleashed' by McDevitt may be of use to you in that case. The LAT (Look at that) game is a concept she came up with and is very very popular for teaching focus. I think theres a LAT tutorial on youtube as well.

I'm in! Thanks! Will be keen to read the paper when it comes out -
I only pay about $20 for two tablets at my local Petbarn but have seen it online as low as about $16 plus postage. If I had more dogs I would be buying the 50 pack online as you can get the price down to about $7 a dose that way. Both Ivermection and Milbemycin oxime are listed in the drugs to be careful of for MDR1 dogs. The difference is Ivermection is high risk and Milbemycin oxime is only moderate risk. Both are considered safe at the correct dose but dangerous if overdosed. As they are the only two options for monthly heartworm it is a matter of choose one or go back to daily dimmitrol tablets. I have written to Novartis to confirm that Milbemax and Interceptor are exactly the same drug. For me the Interceptor in a six pack works out slightly cheaper than buying 2 Milbemax at a time but it isn't worth the hassle to try to get the chews into the dogs. Agreed! Thanks! I'll have a look around, at least i'm not being completely ripped

+1 for milbemax. Its milbemycin oxime. Haven't had any issues in 1.5 years of monthly use with my two BC's (one just a pup though). They won't eat the interceptor chews - and I think they're more expensive anyway? Anyone know a good place to get milbemax online? Currently paying $30 for 2 tablets at my local pet shop - or is this a reasonable price?

PJ looking very sharp :) I'm really happy with my embossed tags too All the collars with the embroiding and tags as part of the collar are a great idea - but one good thing about having the actual tag there is that I can hear the pups jangling around so I know where they are!!

craving deep fried goodness here too! would it be wrong of me to kinda wish she has an accident?

 yay for you indeed! Mt barker pet care centre i think its called - the one in the main st (gawler st i think). Even if you can get on the loyalty thing it will save you a bit. They told me last week, if you start up a card as long as you buy the majority of a certain sized bag, thats the size bag you get for free. So i.e. if you got 4x small bags and 6x big bags the free one will be a big un. So not too bad! I only found this out now that i've bought 9 small bags!!!
-
I see you're in Adelaide! I'm in the hills and think i'm getting ripped too. Only buying the smaller (4kg i think it is) bags at the moment which are $49.95. 10th bag is free though (yey) so that probably brings the price down a few bucks per bag if you were to average it out. I think the big bags (15kg) are $115 though. I'll be in there this week so will double check. This is for medium breed. Edit: Just had a look at the petstock site, 138.99 for your giant 15kg bags and 49.99 for the giant 4kg aswell so that seems to be the going rate. Ive checked a few fodder type stores too and no-one seems to stock it

pettagembossing.com.au I had the same issue so got some of these, they're really sturdy and the characters dont rub off because they're embossed (obviously). There's some other ones that slip onto the collar that are supposed to be pretty good if you prefer that style but not sure of the address for them.

Anyone know if domestos fits in this category?
