How Many Times Has Your Dog Escaped?
Steph M replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
Rosie has gotten out maybe 5-6 times (that we know of...) when she discovered she could jump the fence. We nipped that in the bud with a zap collar along the fence she uses. I do feel a bit down that we have to put one on her sometimes, last night on Facebook someone found a wandering dog with a zapper on his collar and the abuse was just amazing. People saying that they shouldn't return the dog to such awful cruel people and that it is barbaric and heartless and they should destroy the collar etc. (He was probably wearing it as he was an escape artist as well) One woman commented that she wanted her number passed on to the owners as she is a trainer and a vet behaviorist and wanted to talk to them about sedation for behavior modification rather than that cruel device. So, sometimes it bums me out she is a ninja, but since we have had the collar we have had one escape, which was the ultimate temptation of Gus being taken out alone. Can't have that! The collar has saved her wandering or being hit or going AWOL etc so can't be too down! Gus is too lazy for that carry on though, if ever the door is open he goes and sits by the car and waits for you to take him for a trip, he has never actually left the front yard, despite a knee high fence and no gate, so we let him get himself in and out of the car and take himself inside after a walk, he is a creature of habit, will get on the concreted drive way and go do his happy dance at the front door while you catch up. So excited to get out....just as excited to get back in. Haha. -
It's true, I have wanted to get Gus a sign saying what he is, yes you can feed him if you ask him to sit first and yes he's friendly but you will get licked. Covers most of the bases....haha. Having said that, when he is behaving like a gem I loooove talking about him and showing him off, when he's being a barky, excited jerk I could happily hand his leash over and wave him goodbye for a few hours. Haha.

Stay Loyal And Meals For Mutts Food
Steph M replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Meals for Mutts all the way here, I feed my allergy prone cats the feline version and they do so so well on it, you can really see the difference when they are fed something else. If we didn't feed raw it's about the only one I wouldn't hesitate to give to my dogs too. We have supplemented with this in the past when we were going away etc and taking raw was hard. Really awesome stuff, and local made! Having said that, as above depends what the dog is allergic too. Wouldn't be much good if it were turkey, for example. :) -
And the treats, right Swazzie? Haha. Whenever we go kids drop Gus goodies, I could swear he thinks kids are donut dispensers.

How Old Until Pups Can Eat Chicken Wings?
Steph M replied to joey13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cutting it up just makes it more gulpable! :) -
I suppose it never ever harms a breed to have fresh genes added to the pool, no.matter how common! She's very cute! Fluffier than I realised!

How Old Until Pups Can Eat Chicken Wings?
Steph M replied to joey13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Same here. I stop chicken necks by 6 weeks and by 9 weeks I prefer chicken frames not wings because they just gobble them with not much chewing. Personally I would be working through any resource guarding quick smart. That jumped out at me too, I'd get onto that now, little bugger! -
Those owners are assholes, we should ban them instead! Or perhaps a hot wire around whizzer level...aha.

This is part of what baffled me, a few dogs (OK, humans) ruined it for everyone so they're saying everyone out and leaving one less place to socialise the next generation of pups, who in turn will probably act poorly when in similar situations. Its kinda self fulfilling? I'm glad there seems to be a lot of happy stories of dogs at markets. I know the dog treat stalls well! And our local pork guy who sells offcuts and organs by the kilo. He's a fond friend to my canines...haha.

I just came across this while trying to book our annual Summer camping trip along the Murray, we stayed in the same park last year and were thinking about going back, but one of the biggest drawcards was wandering around the market with the dogs and getting some nice fresh produce and some funky antiques/junk. Am I the only one who things saying no dogs at an outdoor market is strange? Mostly because there are SO many dog friendly campsites around and frankly there isn't much else to duck off and do if you're not swimming or lounging about, and there's certainly nowhere to leave them when camping. I might also admit we are a bit biased, we used the farmers market for a lot of Gus's early socialisation. He said hi to the chickens and goats in the petting zoo, ate lots of floor chips and met little kids without bowling them over. Ours was an awesome tool for us, but we didn't have lots of blow in tourists either, so I fully accept that our local was a little different. Got me thinking, maybe I am in the minority and not everyone likes dogs at their markets?! ( Of course I know there's asshats who let them poop everywhere and use those extendable leashes, but blanket banning all dogs seems so final. Would it not be better to penalise jerks who do the wrong thing or am I living in dreamland? Haha.

Uh, if he has anything in his Steam history that is totally vetoed. At least yours is tangible junk! Hahaha. I messaged the woman to ask how we go about a bulk order and if she can work out any fabulous deal for us, so will keep you posted. ;)

HAHAHAHA YESSS!!! Defs the latter.

No rush! I am wondering if Rosie needs worlds OKayes dog after her performance for the dog walker yesterday, showing off her fence jumping THROUGH the zappy collar, obv decided it was worth it.

I did this a while ago! Was really nice to chat to the woman who bred our English Setter we had as kids, and she no longer breeds but offered to put me in contact with breeders who use her old lines. ENABLER!! Hahaha.

Difficult With Chemical Smell In Food From Tablet
Steph M replied to 2kellen2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We give comfortis, but we put the tablet in a chunk of smelly cheese or ham and down it goes! We crush it and the cheeky buggers smell it every time. -
Sounds like you'd even out financially if you let that deposit go then...:)
-
Hahaha! You have had a stellar run, I'll admit that!

TSD sometimes i think its kinda like dating in a way, sometimes you click with someone, others you can't wait to get on out of there. Sometimes one of you is on each side! Haha. I don't miss that either! Haha.

If you don't feel thrilled with the breeders responses to your questions, I'd find another. You're likely to have a lot more questions after pup comes home! Mind if I ask which breed you're after? Is it a common breed? Some.of the popular breeds attract breeders who aren't all that invested sometimes, I think. But there's still gems there! Just more to sift through.:)

Absolutely agree, but I can understand why the community are upset. Especially when this isn't the first time those dogs have been out and about. I guess that's why they shouldn't get the chance the first time, nor the second. The pigs weren't that little though. Brave dogs! Pigs don't mess about.
-
It was a genuine question? Absolutely no need to be snarky... The point I was making is its easy to be gracious when its not your animals who have been attacked. I can understand why the cafe owners and public want the dogs gone, whether that's right or wrong.
-
I think some SWF owners forget their dogs are dogs. Not saying this is the case with these guys, but we hear a lot of 'oh he's not desexed but he will be fine co-boarding with other dogs, he is not interested in anything like that!' through work. Its the strangest phenomenon!
-
Would you feel the same way if these dogs dug into your yard and attacked your dog though? Even if it were only their second time out? We had a dog get our chicken a few months back and it was devastating. They're still pets and its still absolutely heartbreaking to go out and find them that way, I can understand why they're calling for them to be moved, now they've done it they'll keep finding ways to do it. Its sad. Why don't people learn the first time the dog gets out that it needs to be the last?

Best Dog Food For A Dog With Allergies
Steph M replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One or two incidences does not equal proof. Lots of people feed just dry food and have also had no incidences. FWIW I wouldn't feed my dog once every 3 days if you paid me, no matter how much one person swears black and blue it works.
