  1. That's true, and a lower priority for sure, but mine love showing off their tricks to people. Gus particularly wants to shake everyone's hand/paw, and it distracts him (to a degree) from licking their faces. Added bonus! Everything in it's place!
  2. Yeah, we have one similar! It looks good so far. I also just worked out why chain petshops are going out of business. $12 for a rope toy I could have bought online for a few bucks and a sneer at the register when I told her and the other girl (who was literally on her phone behind the counter doing nothing) that their kittens (at least they were adoption kittens) had no water. She said 'I'll add it to the list' and the other girl smirked. If I didn't have a voucher and have the cone I would have just walked out. Worst! Sometimes the girls are lovely, then sometimes they're dropkicks.
  3. She looks so incredibly happy in every frame. A short life, but a fabulous one. The love from both sides is so obvious.I'm so sorry.
  4. Aw no! Hope they don't twin it up there! I'm.off to buy a soft cone thing bow. Can't hurt to have it on hand! Poor chook.... Least this one will be quicker for Nix. He will be fiiiine!
  5. No, I think we might see a specialist first. I wasn't overly confident in how quick the vet looked at them, if he needs them done later we will go down that path. For now I'm just using eyedrops in the mornings which seem to be stemming any runny stuff while we wait on a specialist appt.
  6. Its not about teaching them a lesson, but for me and most households the price of dog plus euth would make a big difference. I couldn't be out of pocket like that for with nothing to show for it, and a new dog on top of that would be off the cards for a long while. Harder to of you have kids...
  7. Well Gus loses the boys on Monday. His leg lump is a totally harmeless histiocytoma, which BTW I got off the phone to the vet (who was quite brisk and businesslike) and googled "histiosarcoma" by accident. HUGE MISTAKE. I Had a heart attack. Anyway, I called back to double check he hadn't just given me awful news and all good, just a boring old skin lump. Of course its on his rear ankle so he knocks it and gets it wet and gross and the two options were leave it and see or lop it off. I figured rather than go under twice, may as well have it off now. AND THE WART WITH IT :D :D So he's not allowed anything after 8pm Sunday. Not sure how to break that to him... I felt awful booking him in, my hands were shaking and I felt awful, relieved now though. Might even let the other one sample the new daycare we've found and have a day of peace...
  8. Mmm! Delicious if nothing else! :D
  9. I would absolutely be sending him back. You could be facing 17-20 years of this, do you really feel that's fair on you, him or your guests? Would you have taken him in knowing what you know now? What if he gets out? What about when you want to have work done on the house? Can you ever just have guests pop in again? Frankly him drawing blood would have been it for me. I can see where you're coming from, though imagine how stressed he must get when anyone comes over? And the previous owner is lazy lazy lazy to suggest valium and shrug you off like that. I really feel for you and can understand where you're coming from. It must be hard when he's so sweet one minute and psycho the next, it must be a big call.
  10. I hope you found a beautiful tree today and have found your peace and it wasn't too awful of a day.
  11. That's true, perhaps as well because its cheaper. You might have a point, but the optimist in me says perhaps some who wouldn't have bothered desexing for cost or manliness etc etc may do so. There will always be dipsticks with idiotic dogs, but with any luck at least they can't make more idiotic dogs.
  12. Perhaps ear tagging or microchips could work? Not failsafe but a good start?
  13. http://guardianlv.com/2014/02/single-injection-dog-sterilization-zeuterin-available-starting-monday/ Interesting idea, particularly as it doesn't remove testosterone all together. I wonder if its better than Suprelorin?
  14. I'm out in the west on a Saturday. In werribee, probably too far but so far so good!
  15. Oh and mum's maltese can switch on the fear, to the point he's convinced himself. When mum's other dog lost her eye her depth perception changed and she was really quite worried on the pier one day. Mum stopped to reassure her and the Malt, who was metres ahead walked back, got behind the other dog and started shaking and cowering. Now he really hams it up, while she's well over it. Sigh.
  16. Rosie is scared of her own farts. They wake her up and she gets really shook up and won't go back to bed... Gus isn't scared of much... I recall the distinct fear periods but nothing much has stuck. I know a friend who has a cocker that's scared of a sign outside a butcher. Just a sandwich board, nothing fancy.... what the?
  17. I couldn't tell you either, but I tend to give most the benefit of the doubt, as much of a PITA as it is!
  18. There are a lot of idiots, but also a lot of well meaning people who simply don't know better. Kids especially, I find, are just not being taught. Our area is pretty heavy in bogans and migrants, on one hand the migrants may have come from a situation where dogs weren't so much the norm in the way they are here, and consequently we have a lot of kids and adults around here who either scream and run, literally... or want to meet him and assume as they're not wearing big studded collars (like the bogan staffy crowd, who aren't flash here a lot of the time be it owners or dogs you want to steer clear of) they're a-ok and therefore it's fine to stop and lean over them to pat them. Now Gus is quite happy for this to go on and couldn't care less, so we're lucky there but not all dogs are and that seems to be a moot point, people seem to have decided around here that as neither are bull breeds, they are automatically friendly and therefore ok to say hi to. And the bogan crowd seem to fancy themselves all 'dog people' and therefore it's all ok as well. I admit some people are just morons, but there's a lot of people who just don't think what they're doing isn't appropriate.
  19. I'm so sorry for your loss but imagine the things she's chasing over the bridge! The tree is a lovely tribute,
  20. Ahem... Do you two know anything about that hole in the new grass I spent all week lovingly planting and watering? Why noooo...
  21. I love the yellow ribbon thing, but the constant explaining was too much, especially with a dog who doesn't feel confident with other people. I can't always be there and explain ourselves at length before some twit tries to grab her for a pat. She wouldn't bite, loves other dogs but yeah, would rather not interact with the two legged ones.
  22. http://friendlydogcollars.com.au We use these. Gus gets a friendly one, because he certainly is, and just to let people know he won't eat their kids or small dogs etc. Rosie has a nervous one, so clever people can't miss the fact she doesn't love most humans and will shy away. We'd rather people left her be than force themselves on her and make it worse. Apparently a hard concept to grasp!
